It's about the only time I can actually get my head around him being voiced by Travis Willingham. The tone still seems wrong (guess he's got a lot of range that otherwise doesn't get a chance to be used) but the delivery is definitely his style and it feels almost like an adlib or something he'd suggest, and they just animated around it. EDIT: Well ok maybe when he whips out those reading glasses. Even though that's an animation quirk rather than a voice acting one, I have to wonder if elements of how each character moves may have been based on the VAs themselves. Movement and pose can affect vocal tone after all so it might make things seem more natural?

'Cuz OP mentioned dance sequences, I missed/didn't think of the first side-to-side deal he did in front of Sonic and co. I actually really like the more annoyed/mean feel of the show, all the talk about the power of friendship can get old. I think it fits the Characters to have more of an adult edge since they knew eachother for so long they are confortable with being more open and upfront

42 here and I can confirm that Sonic Boom is far more hilarious than it has any right to be. Feels like they started out making a more adult oriented show that was essentially one long shitpost, then were told that it actually needed to be child-friendly with at least some very vague nod to continuity so made the bare minimum necessary changes. Kind of like converging on a similar target as Hey Duggee or Bluey but from the opposite direction, and abandoning all pretence of trying to be educational instead of going straight for the jugular with the gags.

It's a well worn gag. The question is where did he get the reading glasses from and why does he have them? Plus did this come before the episode where he becomes mayor, and he learned in-between... or after it, and he forgot?! (A: Knuckles is Schrodinger's Idiot and has a license to temporarily bend reality for the gag where necessary)

This will forever be the definitive version of the Sonic universe to me.

Tails: Is this a towel? Robotnik: What am I supposed to cover with that? ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF ME?! the writing is pure gold. The kind of adult humor that fly's over kids heads.

I've seen this show twice over in less than a year, and it still gets me every time. It has perfect comedic timing, which most shows these days don't have.
