The message is what the show proposes in every single episode: To ironize hypocrisy. This is done in the show all the time, so for the information of the social justice warriors: it doesn't really matter if the character is a feminist or not, the show is just being the show, by exposing pseudo-scientific arguments.

Heard lots of good things about this show, so I don't doubt it.. but man, I just can't take it seriously entirely because of both Rise of Lyric and how *as far as it seems to me,* Boom was supposed to be a full reboot until Lyric bombed and they had to backpedal. Had it gone through, Knuckles would effectively be a dead character to a lot of people.

So, it will take a looong time to really reach that equality. Only when female gender people would be raised in the same circumstances as male.

Bringing up those differences when they're too small to matter in context just makes them stand out more in general and keeps the stereotypes alive. It's like saying "Remember to treat X group like human beings!" to a room where nobody goes against X group. Makes more sense to say "Remember everyone is a human being and serves to be treated as such.". He explains it so beautifully, and it's seriously mpressive that this perfect explanation was something he came up with on the spot, in just 5 seconds.

Honestly Knuckles put it perfectly. The fact Amy is playing with men is _already_ proof of her gender equality, but she’s totally blind to it. She undermines the whole thing by making it into a contest. In her mind she needs to BEAT a man (Sonic) to prove she’s equal. But that’s not equality, that’s just competition. And you don’t compete to prove you’re equal, you compete to prove you’re better.

    3 жыл бұрын

@@ststst981 I’d argue the opposite. While technically I’d say that Knuckles comment would align more with 1st or second wave feminism. Although I’d lean towards second wave. These were focused more on actual equality. The 1st wave being political equality, mainly the right to vote, and 2nd wave being social equality, sexual liberation etc. I’d say that you could argue that his comment could fall into either of these categories as his primary argument is not really about gender, but rather is about ignoring gender in instances where it is irrelevant. Third wave feminism generally does the opposite of this and often injects gender discrimination into places that it really doesn’t exist, a good example of this is the gender pay gap myth. Many third wave feminists were going around saying that women were paid less hourly then men, implying that this was due to gender. This was however not the case as, they didn’t factor in the difference in job preference. Women as a whole generally chose jobs that were more socially minded and that they could have more free time whereas men usually chose jobs where there less free time but more pay: hence why decades after women’s lib men (as a whole) generally make more than women. Men have also been noted to on average be more likely to take double shifts and stay late than women which further contributes to this. The main take away from this however is that it’s not that there is some anti female bias, but rather that men and women are fundamentally different in some ways and thus make different choices. Anyways back to knuckles and Amy. Amy was clearly showing third wave feminist tendencies. As she was injecting a minute supposed problem where she perceived an injustice where there in fact was is none. Talking about her breaking a nonexistent (or at least irrelevant) glass ceiling like it was some kind of grand feminist statement when in reality she was just kicking a ball. In conclusion if I were to compare first second and third-wave feminism to anything and least speaking in a very stereotypical manner (we are dealing with memes after all) I’d say that Amy is definitely a 3rd wave feminist (and kind of a Karen) and Knuckles is more of a first/second wave.

@@Doomtoom If one knows the basic sciences and entry level scientific concepts, they will understand Rick and Morty as a series and mostly enjoy it. The show doesn't explain or show any hardcore calculations on how Rick achieved in formulating time-space coordinates with his portal gun or the right mix of chemicals to have the power for it to open up wormholes for said coordinates. It's a good and funny sci-fi series mixed in with lowbrow humor, which is a guilty pleasure for me. But what can hook some people in watching the show would the be storytelling, world building, and character development. Edit: though some episodes can be hit or miss.
