I heard it might also be a reference to slicing one's tires. So maybe Este confronted her husband and sliced the tires because she was mad and then he killed her? But the first thought I had when hearing that line was the same as yours :)

If you are hearing more than two vocals because Haim are three sisters. Names are este and Danielle. You should check them out. Taylor is featured on their song called Gasoline.

For me it's the fact that he's a songwriter and didn't pay attention to half the story told in the lyrics.

Haim is a band made up of 3 sisters (who are some of Taylor’s best friends), Este, Alana and Danielle Haim. Taylor said Este was her friend she thought would be most excited to be murdered in a song lol. You should check Haim out they are great, they were actually up against Taylor for Album of the Year at the Grammys this year. Taylor just did a feature on a remix of their song Gasoline and it’s so good, you should react to it when you’re done with evermore.

Taylor has _always_ been a tv-crime show addict, and did a cameo (the murdered girl) in one (CSI? Law&Order?) back around 2010. The band Haim is three sisters (Hey-im Hebrew, means "Life") who opened for part of her 1989 World Tour (2015), and she took them to Hawai'i on vacation later. They are close; so when Taylor was writing this, she called them up and just asked, "What're your favorite chain restaurants?" Olive Garden was on that list; when she finished writing it, she asked them if they'd be interested in doing the background vocals. After the song's release, Haim went on social media with their astonishment/happiness about being on COUNTRY charts for the first time (Haim's music is usually called "alt-rock").

you are thinking way to hard about this... husband killed wife, moved his mistress in, taylor avenges her friend and the mistress is framed because of a life policy, and the mistress thinks taylor did. Danielle and Este are the Haim sisters who are singing with her..you should be able to tell its not just Taylor singing. There are at least three people singing (4 if its all of the Haim Sisters and Taylor). the background vocals and "he did it" are the Haim sisters. The harmony is fairly easy to pick out. The Haim sisters remind me of Alanis Morissette (if you have AI, its pronounces as an I, their last name)

So, this seems like a mix between HEART’s “All I wanna do is make love to you” and Dixie Chicks, “Goodbye Earl”.

First the wife thinks the husband is cheating and going to call him out (she says, I think he did it (cheating) but I just can't prove it. Wife goes missing, mistress moved in, and new tires on the truck; friend thinks husband killed wife (I think he did it but I just can't prove it). Friend sets up husband's murder for killing her best friend. But because the mistress got an insurance policy the police think she did it (they think she did it, but they just can't prove it). Mistress at the end believes that the friend killed him (She things I did it, but she just can't prove it). Two murders.

Not srue. For me it was the first listen but I think I connected the dots well, considering. But sometimes it's like when you hear a word wrong the first time and ask the person to say it again, you just can't unhear how you heard it the first time? Just a guess.

It is TWO murders. Este was killed by the husband. The husband was killed in retaliation by Taylor, Este’s best friend. I don’t think you understand this at all. You’re getting caught up in the minute details that are not that deep. This song is all fictional. Her best friends in real life are Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. They now have 4 children but Taylor has put 3 names in her music. (Cardigan, Betty, August, No Body No Crime). James, Este and Betty.
