Friendly reminder: fish bowls aren't good for fish. They are too small (even for a single one), a fish needs more space than it seems to be. They also restrisct oxygen, which can make a fish suffocate - especially if there's more than one in the bowl.

It also merges the fishies view, since in a square aqarium it can look through the glass. If its spherical the fish thinks they can swim further and they end up hutting themselves on the glass/won’t be able to see their enviroment properly.

Id like to think the inadequate fish husbandry has to do with sara's character and her lack of care in general especially bcs of the last scene in which "another one" means she has repeatedly bought and killed fish without a second thought, showing a shallowness in character. Which i think is genius! But yes, as the other comments say, fish bowls are horrible enclosures for any animals except maybe snails and isopods so please do research before getting fish!

As another comment said, I think it just shows how bad of an owner Sara is. I mean, she couldn't even properly take care of her pet fish nor actually feed it, which probably happened with her previous fish pets as well. And she just kept buying them and killing them and not caring. Even if goldfish are short lived, if you're not gonna take care of it then don't buy it. It's also messed up how she didn't take a single hint when the guy she was dating was probably a serial killer/creep but she still got out alive? She was so clueless about the whole ordeal. And she didn't even sound worried, which is what concerns me most.

Goldfish actually live in very small water pockets around coastlines in nature that are flooded by the tides. They don't feel comfortable in big bodies of water, which is why they are so popular as pets.

How you care for your pet says a lot about a person. In this case, it shows me the reason the owner hasn’t had good luck with relationships is because she isn’t there for them and her pet goldfish as well as only thinking about herself. (Wow 1,000 likes! I’ve never gotten this many likes for a comment. Thank you everyone for this).

Her main problem is getting a goldfish, which most people do. Goldfish require a lot more care than you might think, but since they are so common and popular that’s what people often get and they only live for about a week in their care. People mostly just get fishbowls without any sort of filter or way to clean their habitat. Goldfish need A LOT of room to swim and grow. They also need an EXTREMELY good filtration system since they are incredibly messy. Under the right circumstances goldfish can actually live over 100 years old believe it or not. However their are plenty of other fish that require very little care and are much cleaner than goldfish tho plenty of room and a filtration system are always required no matter what type of fish you own.

My goldfishes actually lived for one year. There was 5 in a decent sized rectangular tank, and had their filter, and toys and corals for them to hide in Though after 3 days of forgetting to feed it, when I came back there was blood in the tank and it just looked filthy. Although I know they aren't cannibalists, they can get wild when stressed I reckoned a fish had been fought with, decayed there, contaminated the container leaving not much oxygen for them But my favorite fish survived named "goldie" but it died some time after too

As a kid, I "saved" a fish swimming underneath a frozen lake. I put it in very warm water because I thought it must be freezing. It got a shock from the sudden temperature change and died.

“Several days and a police report later” …Did she just get kidnapped and shrug it off as him just being a “total creep”? Lol. I love this animation. But poor Jessica! 😭

Especially the part when the woman was like “you’re a good listener” after the fish was trying to respond, give advice and opinion but not being listened to back, I know it’s a fish, but I still relate and honestly feel like a fish stuck in a fish bowel myself now 🗿

Animators do research before creating so they dont miss something like that, it screws up an entire perspective on the short. Next time OC will hopefully do their research properly because of this. They’re learning after all.

When you hear the “Or not.. if you know what I mean” for the first time, you kind of excuse it as a romantic remark. Watching a second time really puts perspective on it.

If I had a nickel for everything in this animation that is considered fish abuse I would be a millionaire.

Poor Jessica. Sara is bad at taking care of fish. You gotta be more responsible girl. ALSO, everyone's talking about the irony, and the fact that fish bowls are bad for fish, etc. which is important, but also, the music in the background! I think that's great. And the fact that we never see Sara's face unless it's heavily warped by the fishbowl.

Now I’m feeling guilty, bought a small little fish near a seafood restaurant and when it was my first day of school it suddenly disappeared from the small bowl. Until this day, I have no idea what happened to that little fishy.

The book is more intense than the film but it’s not a bad watch or read even. You just need to know beforehand that you’re not supposed to side with the main character. Too many people make that mistake and that’s where you get the psychos. You’re supposed to side with the government tasked with punishing him but you’re also meant to get annoyed at them for not doing their job right and ultimately going from committing human rights violations to allowing themselves to be walked all over. That’s my interpretation at least. Depending on your age at the time your dad was probably right to not let you read it.

If you want to keep a fish like Jessica, a goldfish, be prepared to have a large, well filtered aquarium for the next 10+ years! The comet of common goldfish gets over 12inches in length as they age so need at least 40 gallons for 1 fish with a good filter they produce plenty of waste, also regular more frequent water exchanges, and a good lid they can jump very well. Just like this story shows lack of care for a living animal, easily replaceable with little to no remorse for their dead fish. Please do research before considering a new pet, even a pet fish 🐟

@@nantae1047 the world record goldfish livrd to be 73 years old and his name is George. World record fancy goldfish was 43 years was a black moor. They only live a month or week due to improper care, animals especially fish will do their best to survive even in the worst environment but eventually succumb to ammonia spikes, depleted oxygen, starvation, no water circulation. The sucker fish, or common plecos, get 2 feet and can live up to 40 years and don't eat waste or much algea and require wood for healthy digestion in the long run. But are usually sold at 2inches for less then 5 dollars. Once they get huge either people bring them back to stores or worse case they release non native species into local water sources. Plecos and goldfish are invasive in the United States due to people no longer wanting their pet fish and willing break federal law.

Wow the story is really well executed!! It's such a good example of how to use narrative perspective. Plus i think the idea it self is just really creative. there are so many stories about serial killers that are usually told through the eyes of either killer or the victim, but never the helpless pet. I mean that's pretty inventive, Pixar would approve!!

Goldfishes in tanks like these die early because it is too small, it prevents them from growing to their normal size and the circular shape disorients them. Also there are not supposed to live alone. Goldfishes are meant to live in ponds with a dozen fellows and grow to around 25 centimeters in size.

I had a friend who made me feel like this fish. Whenever I wanted to warn her about her new crush, she became aggressive and said that she told me about them so that I would listen, and not express my opinion, and that it’s her life and her decisions, which I should respect. I had no other option but to listen silently, despite knowing that it’s not gonna end well for her (spoiler - it never did). Maybe that’s what what this story was about?

I've had fish two separate times in my life, and both sets of them sadly died despite my best efforts. I knew then I didn't want anymore fish, as I clearly can't take care of them and the immense guilt that followed. However, I have two puppers, one going on 12 and still a spring chicken, and a tortoise who is know 13 years old and is a feisty little man. How people treat their pets tells you a lot about their character and this woman is clearly a selfish type of person, who cannot take care of herself or anyone else for that matter. If you can't take care of an animal, don't get one. People don't have the excuse of not knowing better anymore as the internet is full to the brim on pet care, and one click would tell you everything you need to know. Word of advise, if you really want a pet of some kind, start out with a plant. If you can keep that alive that's a start.
