Some Very Bad Luck in Mirissa, Sri Lanka
If you caught our last video, you already know we have arrived in Mirissa, Sri Lanka! This beautiful coastal town is known for it's incredible beaches, famous whale watching, and the iconic Coconut Tree Hill. We began our exploration of Mirissa by going whale watching as it is one of the top things to do in Mirissa. Unfortunately, this really didn't go to plan. Everyone told us whale watching was one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka, but we're not so sure we would agree 🤮 Although we didn't have the best time on the boat, we can highly recommend the whale watching company called Raja and the Whales. Once we recovered, we made the short drive to Weligama, a town very close to Mirissa that is best known for it's excellent beginner surf spots. Not only is Weligama Beach gorgeous, and worth a stop of it's own, but Weligama has some awesome restaurants to check out as well! We loved our lunch at Hangten Rooftop Bar and, had we been staying in Weligama, we may have looked into staying at the Hangten Hostel. It looked pretty awesome!
You will already know our little Mirissa girl if you saw our previous video, and of course we had to stop by and see her again. Helping stray dogs in Sri Lanka is something we do as often as we can, and this special girl will forever hold a piece of our hearts.
If you have done any research on what to do in Sri Lanka, chances are you have heard about Coconut Tree Hill. This might just be the most Instagrammable spot in all of Sri Lanka. This little jut-out of sand covered in palm trees is perfect enough to be out of a story book. It was the perfect place to wind down after a rather unfortunate start to our Mirissa, Sri Lanka vlog. It can be a little tricky to find, but if you are headed to Sri Lanka we definitely recommend you visit Coconut Tree Hill, Mirissa!

The camera angle is a little funky right!? We bought an Insta360 X3 camera and have been loving what it can do for shots on the scooter and other action cam style shots 😊
Beautiful ! And thanks - my sis and I will be ready and anticipate the consequences. Sri Lanka is such an exotic travel , and that is worth it.

I so feel you on the whale watching. I went on a zodiac a few years ago on ruff waters and thought the boats would be better.. but my friend said to me it wasn't necessarily better. Watching your video I agree. Glad you at least saw some whales. I can't even watch my video of the whale watching as the motion sickness returns. At least you got some great shots.

They did but we heard it made people REALLY sleepy so we opted to not take them. Maybe that was a mistake! haha

Watching this from Perto Natales, Chile. Finally made it down with all of our gear. I also get major motion sick if I'm not driving. Hate boats. And I went across the Drake Passage to Antarctica! Peace from TdP!

The life you described from the hostel at the end would be my dream life. It sounds like paradise. The boat ride seemed so rough. Glad you still managed to see both whales and dolphins. Amazing photos!

To the dogs we give small pieces of chicken, to the people we give months worth of tourism money on the food we buy, the places we stay, and the activities we carry out.

Things are not perfect but it is much better than what we see on the media. We had no issues with food and water. There was the occasional brown out but many places had generators so it wasn't a problem. For fuel we had were given a qr code because there is still some controls in place but as toursists we had no issues.

It was the fact that of the 20 people on the boat, only three people got sick and 2 of them were us! If we had one doing well we could have done a better job vlogging and taking video of the whales. We hope it's still okay though 😅

You guys might not have had your sea legs but at least you saw something. Not everyone who go on these boat rides get to see the whales. Imagine being sea sick & also not seeing any whales or dolphins. That would be "very bad luck".
