SOME PLACES TO LOVE -- VIZZINI & MONTEROSSO ALMO, SICILY

2019 September 7, Sat., Day#8 -- Today we decided to cruise along the south-eastern countryside of Sicily toward Ragusa via Sicily's old road SS194 and go from there. From a distance, we saw villages clinging on mountains and couldn't help but admire them. We decided to swing by Vizzini and Monterosso Almo for a quick glance. Both of these small towns have their own distinctive charms, rich in culture and history. They were at one time referred to as BORGO or small villages generally fortified. In Monterosso Almo, bread is popular. Palazzo Cocuzza stands tall in its sumptuous and elegant style. Chill out in Piazza San Giovanni or called "u chianu (the plain)" and try their famous bread and dip with olive oil, oregano and sun-dried tomatoes (cappuliatu). Here lies the town's Church of San Giovanni Battista and the little chapel St. Anna Monastery, aka "la bammina".
