I always also liked that Amanda in this film was the rare example of a 'popular girl' stereotype that was fucking human and not just some shallow superficial girl. Sure, she's pretty and popular, but that doesn't define her character. She's warm, has a moral compass, she grows to stand up for herself, and at the end of the film, you never feel 'sorry' that she didn't end up getting the guy, because what she really needed was to stand on her own 'two feet' all along and follow what she knew was right. The fact that's also friends with Duncan and Watts by the end as well is beyond adorable. It just goes to show you that even with either Duncan and Amanda, there's no excuse for high school movies having shitty one-dimensional stereotypes of 'bad boys' or 'popular girls,' when there's so much more that you can flesh out. Bravo, John Hughes, Bravo.

I done bet that if actors & Actresses we're allowed to go on they own during certain scene spots, they'd be a whole lots more of natural, 'organic' , much more realism established during 'dull'd exchanges/interactions tween' players on they movie sets........ Jus'like my Nyyggah Koteas done did on that powerful climatic scene. Y'alls done ever witness Koteas scenery chewing up and str8 vomit'n alls over and particularly intertwined in David Cronenberg's sado-sickness film vehicle (ain't not no puns introduced!), CRASH?! Scumbagg'd cable and t.v. program'ahs ain't wanna give that extremely entertainment of a whole different level cinematic offering, absolutely no views to be had, regarding chances to experience that flick for the madly curious public at hand. I ain't done don't wanna be forced to feature that Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, Terrence Howard movie spot, already more than this Nyyggah done did. Best scene from one of the best movies of the 80s.... The only thing I always wondered about was why the best song in the whole movie that you hear in the back ground in this scene ( Charlie Sexton Beats So Lonely) was the only song not on the Soundtrack Album....Duncan steals the show in this great movie, great memories

@@jeffnelson2930 Funnily enough Molly Ringwald was John Hughes' first choice to play Watts but she declined because she wanted to move to more adult roles. I'd say it was a great call because Mary Stuart Masterson nailed Watts' character although I am curious to see how Molly would have played the part (and if she would have cut her hair short to a similar style that Mary had it to sell her tomboy character).

This is so heartbreaking in so many ways. Amanda begs Hardy not to hurt Keith, and Hardy has this "New" Girlfriend who has to realize that Hardy never wanted her. Probably The Frist time a Black Guy was in Hardy's House in a Non Subservient way. Did you ever see Craig Schaffer in A Seas In Purgatory by Dominick Dunne. He played Constant Bradley, who comes from a Kennedyesque Family who killed a Girl and got away with it. Hard to believe the Blond is Chynna Phillips Daughter of the Late John & Chynna Phillips Of The Mamas & The Papas. She was probably the only one of John's Children who came out "Normal".
