That Craftsman - it was made by Schroeder in Germany. They make a very nice ratcheting tap wrench too.

I have a vintage "Screwball" ratcheting screwdriver. It is orange and ball shaped. Made in the USA. Can't say that I use it, more of a collectible piece. Also have a vintage ratcheting "Versatool" with the original box I might add. Both are pretty cool pieces.

I have the Kobalt Driver but it’s branded Duralast. The actual mechanism is great but the driver itself is just to bulky and heavy. I have the Snap-On and I love it so I purchased the Channellock version for my mobile bag and I actually like the Channellock the most. That is one smooth ratcheting Driver. It has become my go to Driver for everything now.

Loved the Kobalt. I think we all have our favourite screwdrivers and like you, mine have a square shank (great for putting a spanner on) and full tang with a pound through handle (and I guess came from China). My most used two were a pound apiece 25 years ago and have taken a lot of abuse and give you a much better feel to a job than a powered screwdriver ever can. I remember when the ratchetting screwdrivers became popular in the 70's before we all had cordless drill/drivers and impact drivers and we all thought they were great as it saved getting blisters when putting in lots of screws. As always a really enjoyable video and a big thumbs up.

Hello Tony! Imagine those poor souls with only two Screwdrivers, one Phillips and one slotted... 😃 One day people will look at slotted screws as primitive! Lol Years back an old timer around the corner had a NOS set of SK Clear Green Screwdrivers with the white stripe for sale and I passed on them... Still kicking myself in the ass everytime I think of it... Thanks Tony! 😃👍

That Skewdriver was cool , but I really liked that Cobalt . That one is new to me . My Tool chest top is loaded with screw drivers just as yours is . My best driver set is in my second drawer and organized . But my most used hand screw driver set is a Full Harbor Freight set organized in slots on top of my work bench , and all my good bit sets are sitting in my second drawer with my good screw drivers so I can always find them when I need them . My common Law son , just did not like the drawers that went under his bed . So I asked if I could have them . Now I have an 8 drawer set I built under my 8 foot work bench . I might do a video this summer on my garage/shop set up .

Hi Dave, It's funny how we have out favorites when it comes to tools, I always used to say you can't judge a screwdriver until you've been using it for 20 minutes straight, that's when you start to feel if you're going to blister-up or cramp-up. I would love to see your shop! I always enjoy seeing different workshops! Thanks!

The yellow one you show second in the video has a grip that reminds me of the modern Wera screw driver grip. I love it as well. That skewdriver is really interesting. Never seen anything like that. I imagine that could be useful for a mechanic with those hard to reach screws. PS. Im jealous of how organized your tools are. My shop is a chaos :)

Hello Kopsu- You’re right about the Wera design- I’m going to have to give them a try but they are a bit pricey... The Skewdriver is cool but I’ve yet to use it! 😃 Unfortunately my shop is a mess too! My biggest problem is I ran out of room! I need to get rid of stuff but I save everything! I read somewhere that a clean organized shop is the sign of a sick mind! 😂😂😂 Thanks!

Sweet set of screwdrivers! I could have used that Kobalt rachecting driver today. I visited my aunt and was put to work on her fence attaching a new metal latch by hand. ( she lost the electric drill/driver I kept at her house and I don't keep power tools in my wife's car ) let's just say I appreciate my power tools 😆but if I kept a ratcheting screwdriver in my her car I wouldn't have suffered so much driving #2 screws into P.T. wood.

Hi Carlos, We are all addicted to our battery drill/drivers but there is something special about using hand tools that gets lost when using power tools. I wouldn't want to drive in 50 screws by hand but nothing beats hand screwing a half dozen screws with a good comfortable well fitting screwdriver! -and I feel your pain with the pressure treated for sure! Thanks!

Hi I liked the Skew one..think they were around a while ago..never used one..Kobalt one was good, but no more Kobalt tools here, reason is Lowes who are Kobalt got involved in a disastrous joint venture with Woolworths supermarkets to create a hardware chain called Masters to compete with the well established Bunnings which is owned by suoermarket rival COLES..Well it was a SNAFU,that cost Woolworths $millions, and Lowes who were importing all the hardware and tools, brands such as Stahlwille and Kobalt went home..I dont know how much the Snap-On one would cost probably a arm and a leg..Years ago our manufacturer Turner Tools had a very good ratchet screwdriver..I had one once ..Then Stanley took over Turner and kept same design with their name on it for awhile then closed it all down and just imported stuff..Dont see many Yankees type tools these days and you are VERY right about the slipping aspect, problem was because you were further away from the screw trying to exert pressure it was easy to be fractionally off center and flat blades can easily slip,Philips not so bad though..keep up the good work ..Bob

Helo Steven! I have always had very dry hands! So much so that overnight before I go to sleep I take a dollop of Vaseline and rub down my hands... Certain soaps can do a job on your hands! We had this brown soap with pumice at work that if you used it twice in one day your hands were crocodile looking! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!

Channellock is a USA or even Canada rebrand by mega-pro, did you see the craftsman one I got recently? It is supposed to be a snap on rebrand but has a rounded handle like you like. I got it from my local ace for $18 after my biweekly reward coupon $7 off $20 or I get $5 off $5 or more from them monthly with 2 biweekly deals... I have plans of building up some nos craftsman with those coupons =)

Those antique push driver screwdrivers, were they called a yankee screwdriver? Or was that a brand name of push driver?

  • @ScoutCrafter

    @ScoutCrafter

    6 жыл бұрын

Hello stuntcardriver- Yes! The Yankee brand was marketed by the North Bros. in 1899 and they made all types of variations to the design... Stanley bought the rights to the design in the 40's and made a gazillion of them in all varieties. Screwdrivers, push drills... They work well until the bit slips off the screw and you plunge your Yankee into your project... Then it went into the drawer waiting for the next unsuspecting user! 😃👍

Can't stand ratcheting drivers anymore. Tired of finally getting into position and then having to stop everything so I can fondle my tool to screw anything. I got a solid shaft with a magnetic tip that's ready to screw anytime. Every ratcheting driver I've had is in a dump somewhere after it gave out trying to screw something tight.

Hello Jusb- Yes- I think I bought the whole set years back from Garrett Wade Co. for $20- I always liked Clear/translucent handles and these are just very heavy duty. I probably use my trusty Craftsman Screwdrivers the most... I love the way they look. I would give Wera a try but they are quite expensive... You’re right about the Yankee’s but as a kid they made great toys! 😃👍

Originally the Wera Kraftform grips were fully plastic without rubber. They're still available as Wera "Kraftform Classic": www.amazon.de/Wera-Schraubendrehersatz-Kraftform-6-teilig-05031281001/dp/B000XIVZ2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526164157&sr=8-1&keywords=wera+kraftform+classic The first ones were 1970s orange...then they turned over to black. The insulated ones are red.
