Solving Rational Inequalities
I introduce solving rational inequalities. After showing you the steps you should follow for these types of problems I work through two examples. In the second example I write less than 0 in the second through forth line of work. That should read less than or equal to.
...also negative 7 plus 5 is negative 2 not negative 3, the answer is correct but the annotation corrections have been removed by KZread:(

Your math videos are the best online!! There are two reasons. One is that you explain it very well and two is that your virtuous passion for math is unsurpassed!!

Professor RobBob, thank you for another solid analysis of Solving Rational Inequalities. The two examples show How to solve Rational Inequalities and avoid common mistakes. There is also an error in between the solution of the final example. The sign should be less than or equal to instead of less than.
I hope by the time you are reading this that you have passed that pre-calc final with ease:) Thanks for tuning into my channel to learn from!
Your videos are amazing! I am taking College Algebra online through independent study and so I have no instructor and things can get pretty confusing quite fast. Your videos made everything really clear! Your an awesome instructor!
You're welcome...and THANKS for watching!
I've seen your videos before but damn, this is the the best educational video I've ever seen by far.
THANK YOU...and thanks for watching again! I hope you will spread the word about my channel to the other students at your school and save them the search:)

I'm taking grade 12 math, and my math teacher is terrible at teaching. He's a lovely person, he just can't seem to make effective lesson plans. So thank you. So. Much. for making these videos!

I'm glad to hear that my videos are even helping someone get through that "dreaded" math class! I try to "make math fun" while learning at the same time...hope you keep watching, and maybe by the end you might even "like' math a little:)

You have possibly helped me pass my math test, I dunno yet cuz it's tmr lol but I got a GOOD feeling!
With rational inequalities you can't assume what parts of the number line will be solutions just by the direction of the inequality. You must test the intervals. Setting your problem equal to zero you have (x-9)/(x+2)

Hey Tarrou. Thanks for the video. What happens when numerator is a constant term. I notice there weren't any problems like that in the video. How do I solve something like: 12 / (x-6) ?
Thank you! I am glad I could help:)
can we sub the critical values into the simplified equation rather than the original equation? Thanks.

Hey prof i got a question the second example when you took 5 to the other side why was the LESS OR EQUAL TO 5 sign was changed to LESS than zero only. shouldn't it still be less or equal to 0

what would you do if the polynomial below the denominator is not factorable for example (2x^1)/(x^2+1) > 0?
@profrobbob
10 жыл бұрын
You just set the denominator =0, but not only is your denominator not factorable it also has no solution. So your only critical value will come from the numerator.

@MrShafin5 Thank you....that will be fixed by the end of today:)
First, I would like to say, I love your videos! Second, Is there a short cut for this? xD
What happens if the inequality has a hole where the graph does not exist (i.e. not an asymptote, but a point of non-existance or discontinuity)? Do I include it in the inequality, or do I have to reduce the rational function before proceeding? Intuitively, I would assume that you don't reduce, because the x-coordinate of the hole in the graph would be used as a critical value on the number line, but I'm unsure.
@profrobbob
10 жыл бұрын
That is a really good question and my textbook does not have any problems like that:( Like you are thinking, I would be safe and include them in the inequality when finding the critical values you are going to set up your number line that you will test with.
UR THE BEST!!!!
