I've just getting started with my Casio_fx-CG50, and move on with the manual . But, this video is very helpful since it presents examples for both "solve" and " solveN "command, when the manual just give basic input procedures. Thanks, you effort are helpful and appreciated.

Try SETUP once you're in RUN -Matrix mode and check that Func Type is Y = and Not Param =

Well typically the ones shown in the video. Linear equations, polynomials when you have a range for the solution, logarithms and trigonometry when you have it in radians. There is a separate solver that can solve polynomials more broadly and linear simultaneous equations.

So in summary, SolveN can do everything Solve can do but without the inconsistent syntax and in fact with easier syntax. Why should I ever use Solve? Yes, you can specify an intervall but in most cases this is rather a hinderence to get all the solutions than an advantage an SolveN gives me all the solutions anyway.

Can you show me how to set variable X ?

If you mean storing a value as x. Lets say you want to store the number 55. Input 55 press ⇾, then the letter you want to store it as, in this case press X,Θ,T button.To check press X,Θ,T again and press =. This should show 55.

Try a reset, but make sure you have nothing you need stored in the memory. Got to settings to find reset. You may need to alter something back after.

Go to graph menu, and change the type of function to "Y=" instead of Parametric which you must have now.

Whats the difference between using solve and solveN?

I think Solve opens up the possibility of solving other letters within your function, which is why you have to define your variable. SolveN just seems to solve for the one variable, usually x. I am sure someone may be able to explain this better than I can.

Does that work with the Casio fx 9860G?

I tried this out, ended up typing the blue brackets twice. Removed it and got the answer. Make sure to type only one set of blue brackets.

(k so anyone please help me with this) the middle row fucntions are not working in (8,5,2 and . ) these are not working in my calc when I type it it doesn' t show in my calc please helpp..

Not sure what's happened there. If you don't have anything stored in the calculator that you need I would reset and try again.

Hi, thank you so much for all your guides. I had some trouble while following these exact equations on the fx - cg 20. I inputted the first equation 7(x+9) = 2(15-2x) into the calculator Exactly as you did but it spits out the answer as 0? I also tried something obvious like x + 2 = 2x and it still gives out an answer of 0. I used the equation solver and that worked, but why doesn't the run matrix solve that particular example? The second example works too. The third one does as well. All of the other examples do work. EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE. WHY?

I’d use Equation and then solver and input the equation. Remember to use solver with a trigonometric function like tan you need to have your angle unit in radians. If you need degrees, you have to convert it afterwards. Use the x/theta/T button to input X.

How do i save the output of SolveN to a variable ? It doesnt even get stored in Ans...

It is difficult as there can be more than one answer. I think that's the drawback of using SolveN, the calculator wouldn't know which solution to store. You can use SOLVE for single answer, but this often gives exact answers as decimals but they can be stored.

The answer is stored in 'List Ans' press shift 1 (list) shift (-) (Ans) and you can recall the answer(s).

I cant write X, when I select that button I get Theta

With Solve you have to set the variable and the limits to which you need to find the solution. SolveN does not require this so is easier to use, but comes with a caveat that further solutions may exist.

The CG50 can display more solutions. I had it display 4 once.
