Solving 2 Reef Problems on the 200 Gallon Innovative Marine Reef Tank

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

It never fails. There are always problems in the reefing hobby. The important thing is that you find solutions to them. I think I have found some solutions to my problems. Fixing cyano (again) and a new leak in the frag tank.

That looks more like a brown algae/turf algae or diatoms (suggested by the bubbles produced), versus a cyano bacteria. I do a chemi clean treatment 2-3 times a year as a prophylaxis. I reduce the slimmer , remove the carbon for 2 days. there will be micro bubbles in the tank. I consider this a scrub as it captures the proteins and organics and aggregates them allowing the filter to take it out or protein skimmer. slowly after 2-3 days turn up the skimmer, do a small water change, and add a bit of carbon. The algae syphon out. test your water quality for ratio of nitrate and phosphates. and ensure they are balance. the imbalance of these will affect the growth of algae. the bottom also probably is a mixture of diatoms as well. its always hard to really tell through videos. great video and beautiful tank. hope you figure it out.

A swiffer duster thing could help get between the tanks

Red slime remover just the same effectiveness as chemi clean but probably safer for corals with less problems. Still need to remove carbon and other media besides filter pads

Maybe it’s not cyano. Maybe diatoms or dinoflagellates?

I thought about that. I’m gonna do another water change. Then dose some microbacter 7. Maybe I’ll grab some more copepods ?

I think once you start dosing kalkwasser the cyano will go away. I haven seen cyano in over a year since I have been on kalk. I can't tell you the scientific why but it has reduced a lot of problems in my tank.

Man…bizarre. I had the exact same experience this time around with ChemiClean treatment . I wonder if there’s some bad batches going around? Or perhaps new strains of Cyanobacteria that’s now resistant to Erythromycin?

It could be new batches? I’m not sure. I may have had a mix of cyano, algae, and diatoms. But it didn’t help much. It could be that if you use chemi clean enough it will become resistant ?
