Unfortunately neither method works. The reg hack installed properly (right-click context menu shows 'Take Ownership') but the one diff from your video is when I select 'Take Ownership', Win7 pops up a window asking if I want the following program to make changes etc.. I slect yes and the DOS screen momentarily pops up, but I still can't copy the files.

i was trying to replace a game's dll file and this is the problem which just keeps coming up again and again i tried both methods but it didn't work so what should i do ?

doesn't work for me. I actually downloaded the .exe file which basically is the same because the link for the registry file was dead. After right clicking and selecting/activating "Take ownership" the infamous "Try again" message still appears. The reason I downloaded the .exe file was to replace some .dll files in the System32 and SysWow64 folders without the message despite providing administrator permission. (I am the administrator and the only user). Even after applying both the methods it doesn't work. The message still appears and I cannot replace the files. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS. Please help.

1st way didn't work for me either but I read from somewhere that you need to restart the computer to make it work so I'll try. 2nd way it worked!!

I need to try these at work. One question: when I remove "take ownership" from the right click context menu, does it also bring back the restrictions to the file, or folder I used it upon? (my point is to leave no trace)

Wow.. The first method doesn't work because I dont have access to change the owner. The second method doesn't work either. This folder really is troublesome.

A million thanks! When I upgraded from windows 7 to 8, I had a huge 30g file that I couldn't get rid off. With your zip, I was able to reduce it to 17mb. I hit another snag with the remainder of the file, since it's on my desktop and can't even move it from there, but I'm off much better now! Thanks again!

I changed the full access to a folder. Now I changed the OS. At present, this folder is not deleting. Now I would like to give the full access to that folder but that icon (full access) is not highlighted. That folder had the full control to the unknown user. But I am the admin of laptop. I don't have the full control. What should I do? (Permissions, Auditing, Effective access) are visible at folder-Properties/security/advanced . I was not found OWNER amoung with those names... (I am useing WINDOWS 10)

Works on Windows 10 like a treat !! Remember if you download it to 'right click' on the file first before install and select 'properties', then at the bottom click 'unblock' to let windows merge properly with registry. Now install (merge) it !!

I could't get permission the first way you described because everything was different than yours. The hard drive is from a very old computer from before Windows 7. I tried it the 2nd way and it would open my documents folder to the pictures but when I try to open a jpeg photo it will not open it. Could you tell me what has gone wrong? That is all I wanted was my photo's.

This does not concern the topic on the video. However, Hard drive failed, installed a new hard drive. Installed Windows7. Had to update the video driver from Acer. Now every time I start the computer a message pops up asking if I want to run C\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exe How do I keep this from appearing every time I start the computer.

A lot of the Windows Program files are locked on Windows XP. As well as on Windows Vista and Windows 7. But I use Unlocker which unlocks and deletes any file. Andrea Borman.

I have this same problem, but it's not with a folder it's with an external hard drive that I am trying to use on bootcamp, the first method didn't work because no security tap exists for external hard drives, and the second didn't work because even after installing the program it would not allow to right click and take owner ship (it was working with other folders just not the hard drive). I tried 2nd way and it worked!!!! I found the menu "take ownership" at the 3rd row after I right-clicked the folder. I clicked it and the program ran as long as how big your folder was. Then voila! after 2:03 it was going through several files granting me permission, but every few hundred files i get "error applying security" as the title, and int he error box " an error occurred while applying security information to: C:\users\myuser. access is denied" any idea on how to proceed? fyi, ive seen it also say C:\users\myuser\desktop. so i can't manipulate my desktop at all

I didn't want to use the method 1, because I have already installed the reg file TakeOwnersip.reg, but I made mistake, I used it on a single file, instead to the WHOLE FOLDER which is 'disobedient'. This is how I get the options Take Ownership in my context menu (which doesn't appear if you use it on the single file). And it really works. Thanks.

Hey Miguel, A Q for you is that After installing windows 7 over XP, Images and videos asking for some kind of permission to open it. There were some images on desktop which I copied earlier to the drive D and after that I installed OS 7, hope you reply soon... And thanks for the video...🤙🏼

For the 1st method I dont see any security tab and with second method i can copy paste all my folders but can format my usb, it says the disc is write protected.
