SOLVED │ LA's $9.5 Billion Metro Purple Line Challenge

Ойын-сауық

/ @howstructure
Los Angeles, known for its sprawling cityscape and infamous traffic, embarked on an extraordinary mission to expand its public transportation system with the Metro Purple Line extension, also known as the D Line.
From financial hurdles to technical complexities, the journey to extend the Purple Line has been monumental. Engineers had to tunnel through some of LA's most geologically complex areas, while planners navigated the intricate web of funding and community concerns. Each step of the project presented a new obstacle to overcome.
How did they tackle such a monumental project?

What will be the future of LA? Will that project be a real game changer?

How was it a struggle to find $9 billion? It's LA. They should be able to find that in the couch.

They want to rely on partially federal funding (which they just got a grant to prepare for the Olympics) cause they just did a tax increase via measure M a few years back (feel like they should do another measure to fastrack more projects …)

Awesome! The experience they have gotten from this project will make the new projects much faster I hope.

For LA to grow to the next level it needs a fully functioning metro subway system with good coverage that overlaps other transportation.

Perhaps it would be interesting for everyone to learn more. Which significant project would you recommend we make a video about?

Does the entire extension of 14km (nobody does miles anymore 😂) cost 9.5 billion USD and does that include everything (key in hand)? Does this mean that each km is aprox. 650 million USD and if so..why? Labor costs cannot be the driver of this amount, unless people working on the project start with 100k for the lowest-paid team member?

It’s called the Metro D line, not the purple line.

"purple line" was it's formal name and is still colloquially known as such

You seriously think I'm going to ride underground in an area that has daily earthquakes ? Sure, big ones are far apart, but when it hits, and it will, this will just turn into one huge coffin.,

In case of earthquakes subways are the best place to hide and find safety. Look at Japan.

The "daily earthquakes" haven't made a difference to all the other underground metro tunnels in LA...
