SOLVED 2005 volvo xc90 rebuilt abs but warning lights still on

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I had following warning lights and error texts on the dashboard of my 2005 XC90 v8
-ABS
-Brake
-triangle with exclamation mark
-brake failure stop safely
-passenger bag malfunction
-the car AWD stopped working
- odometer stopped working
-the trip meter stopped working
I don't remember if there were others.
I rebuilt the ABS - no use
I took the car to Volvo dealership
They said the rebuilt ABS was not working
I got a second ABS and installed it. They said it was better but still not fully right.
I got a third one and before I got a word volvo on how this was doing , someone on you tube told me what the culprit was in their situation that was identical to mine. I was convinced they were right and decided to take the car from volvo and fix it myself. But by now volvo too found the problem. they said the same thing this guy said. It was water that got between the grey connector (with about 20 or 30 wires in it) with a blue latch -it is visible on the video where the guy touches it with the screw driver at minute 1:31 and the CEM. The link to the video is • Volvo Central Electron...
The culprit was water that got in the connection between the CEM and this connector.
if you dry it soon enough that is all you need. But my car was parked for over a year and the corrosion went too far. I needed another grey connector and another CEM. A used grey connector in working condition could be uses as is, But a used CEM would first need old software cleared. I was able to find a used CEM But not able to find a business to purge the original software out of it. I had to go with a brand new CEM. Took the new CEM and the used connector to my volvo shop they reinstalled the CEM software specific to my car. And that was not all. They said they had to do something like a reset or something to make the warning lights disappear. Only after that the lights went out. Few days ago they informed me all the lights are gone, the odometer and AWD is working.

2:29 this morning I noticed a buzz coming… That sounds like a known problem where the vacuum pump motor gets locked into the on position. It can get very hot and fail if not dealt with. Start by replacing the Volvo Brake Booster Vacuum Switch which is fairly easy to replace and see if the problem goes away.

I appreciate the advice. When the car was at volvo for repair of the problem described in this video, they too told me, that motor was constantly on and may burn. I never looked into the issue. I didn't even know where that motor was. Until you told me now. Will follow up on it. However, I haven't heard that buzz for a while and brakes seem to work ok. Thanks for the tip just the same.

So I had a used ABS Modulator put on my 2011 Volvo S40T5 and now my car doesn't recognize the part...? Can anyone help a girl out and give me some information on how I can get my car to recognize the replaced part? I am sure it is a coding issue, however I am not certain how to do that?

i own 2007 volvo s40, i 've seen the same message and the warning 3 months ago. because of malfunction rear ABS sensor. after installing new sensor. th same messages appear. tested all the ABS system components, all work good however the mechanics said it is probabely the ABS module. the solution was simple to me, disconnect the battery cables for 30 minutes and connect the battery again, do this 2 or 3 times.. no dashboard lights...i think this era of Volvos have a finicky electrical issues. just be sure you fix the malfunction part and do Hard Reset to educate the module.

Thank you for that information even if I now have the ABS warning light gone, so I won't be able to try your method.

I am putting the below description of problems I have had with my 2005 volvo XC 90 v8 4.4l engine in case it may help someone who has similar issues with their car. main problems as of Mid summer 2022 A. ...warning lights -ABS -Brake -triangle with exclamation mark inside B. ....text warning messages : - brake failure, stop safely -passanger air bag malfunction C. ...parts /devices not working: -odometer and trip meter -AWD Steps taken to solve the problems First -ran a scan with a cheap scanner which pointed to ABS being bad. Took the ABS module out and sent it to be rebuilt. The shop tested it and verified it was bad. They rebuit it and sent it back. It did nothing to solve any of the above problems. The shop suggested it could be the instrument cluster. I had them rebuild the instr. panel and again: it did nothing to solve any of the problems I bought a an iCarsoft vol v2.0 on E Bay. . It pulled following codes U2100, (?) 8F18, (?) P2162, speed sensor A/B correlation. General malfunction AND : P1799. CAN/TCM/ABS circuit mmalfunction. bus signal/message failures. missing message. I had no clue what to do with these . I took the car to a volvo dealership. They pulled a page long list of faults Among them: the ABS was not working. And the differential pump was bad ( probable reason the AWD was not working). When I said I just had the ABS rebuilt, they said get a refund. It is not working. I got the refund. To my surprise the rebuilder was extremely cooperative and gave me no hassle. presently I am working on solving the problem of the ABS first, I took the faulty ABS out and replaced it with a used one I purchased on Ebay. Then took the car back to the dealership. Currently waiting to see if this ABS will work.

2 weeks ago the shop informed the 2nd ABS module connects but still is not fully talking with networks. The shop said I need another ABS module. Either a new one or if I wanted to give another used one a shot. Because new cost up to $2400, I went wit another used one, which costs $330 ( $80for part on ebay +$250 for programming) waiting for a word back from the shop even as I write this.

I have installed another ABS module and took it back to the dealership. They scanned it and said it is better than the previous but still not working fully well and advised me to get another one. I am looking for it right now. I appreciate your advice. It seems you are on the right track. Thank you.

@@joeshow8815 the exact same fault started on my 2005 XC90 D5 roughly 3 days ago. After doing some reading I went straight to the (Body Control Module) which is located in the drivers side footwell and checked for traces of water (which were present). After this you need to remove the wiper arms, remove the plastic surround and removal of the wiper motor. Just below the windscreen (drivers side) you’ll see a box, this is where the main electric cables go in from the engine bay. Remove the cover and disconnect the 2 connectors, 1 is brown and 1 is grey…… when I removed mine there was water present in the grey socket. Using a hair dryer on cold we blew out and dried as much as we could. Then inside the drivers footwell i placed a small mobile heater and also on cool setting left it running for a good hour.

I had a couple of intermittent faults a couple of days before brake failure, trip meter, abs lights came on, and that was my windscreen wipers would randomly go on and off. Once my fault became more apparent my brake lights would constantly stay on also when the car was locked.

As for now, I’m 24 hrs further on and as of yet no faults have reoccurred. Fingers crossed it stays this way, I don’t fancy parting with €1200 for a new BCM.
