Volvo XC90 problem that Volvo know about.

Комедия

When driving instrument panel goes blank car judders moments before. PAS stops working all electronics stop wipers indicators ect. This happened twice after driving 150 miles. Returned car to dealer for a full refund. Volvo has no explanation as to why but want to charge me hundreds of pounds to find out.

Volvo CEM Model overheats I fix the problem with 12V Fan and Insulate the lower heat exchanger pipes on the driver's side and install the 12v computer fan on the cem modul

Mike Reed is correct about this. Just had a friend drive long distance to visit me, car gave a shudder one mile before my place, dash went black and flatlined. No high temp warnings, everything 'normal' on the way up. After parking, the car would not start and the CEL was on. I checked all fluids (perfect), examined every corner and could find no evidence of anything 'blown'. The courtesy lights remained on tho in the overhead and foot wells. Told them do the open all doors starting with drivers going back counterclockwise, open hatch, and up to passenger front. Then reverse order starting at drivers front door slamming shut all the way around, now try to lock with key fob. Fob would not work. Ok. Electrical. Unplugged battery (new one) for overnight, started right up the next morning no CEL, lights functioning turn signals etc. I've never seen anything like this smh. Car' drove fine all the way back leaving in cool morning hours. It was hot when they first drove up. This IS a problem and weakness. Advised them keep it for a short distance around town burner and ditch it for long distance. If the gremlin in this model car is the electrical brain, you don't want to play chicken with it

the problem is corrected by fixing the dashboard, I had the same problem in my 2003 volvo xc90 and what I did was remove the dashboard and send it to be fixed by a company that specializes

Stop the car, hold reset button for some 1-2 minutes. If it is not helpful, stop the car, lock-unlock, and hold reset button for some 1-2 minutes. If then not helpful, detach 12V battery for some 10 minutes.. If then not helpful, go to service to do connect to DICE.. If DICE is Ok, then see if dashboard is Ok. If it is Ok, then seems that CEM is bad.. This problem should be resolvable..

This is either a faulty CEM or CEM overheating. Your losing electric, I would reach behind CEM while cluster is black/dead, wiggle a few wires... Should hear a jingle or two , or get power at the cluster. I've fixed many older Volvo's for this very reason.

The problem is the 128kb memory from the 1990ies on the CEM. It's a 50cent part where Volvo cheaped out instead of buying from Intel right away ;) You can take the CEM out and replace it if you're good with a soldering iron - 44pins no joke. BUT you need to copy/paste the info stored on the memory from the old one to the new one first, and for that you need a computer hacker basically ;) But it can be done, i had it done on my 2003 T5. So it might be cheaper to buy a new(actually still old because they aren't produced anymore) CEM from Volvo for ~1000eur and have it programmed to your car. Oh yeah, the memory for the ABS usually fails next, it's also located on the CEM, and it's got more than 100pins that are so tiny you need magnifying glasses to solder these...😅
