The vocal layering in Guilty is just Taemin's voice. There's no female vocal there. The voice singing "killing me" in IDEA is Boa though. He asked her to do it as a favour and she accepted cause she adores him :)

Taemin taught himself to play the piano by ear when he was around 11 years old. Think of you is a b-side, he released the MV as gift for fans. (The MV was filmed at the same 2 days as the filming of 2 kids, even though they are on 2 different albums).

Taemin IS a cinnamon roll when he is not performing. With a bit of cute naughtiness ;) Most of the younger idols adore him as the legendary artist, who is also very kind and supportive. All of the SHINee members have the reputation of being good, gentle people, if you ask anyone in the industry. They are also loud and a bit unhinged, but still in the nicest way ;)

He has such a unique vocal tone. His singing has improved immensely since he didn’t have any lines when he debuted in Shinee at 14. He worked so hard to get to where he is today! As a longtime Taemin fan, I’m so amazed that you understood his MVs right away! You’re spot on! So many people miss the messaging and think it’s just about a girl or just a sexy song. Taemin talks about his duality and struggles to reconcile it in interviews so it’s an ongoing theme in his work. He’s a very creative and deep introspective person…when he’s not being silly or a menace lol. And yes, he does play piano!

Duality of identity is an ongoing theme, and many of his mvs feature Heaven and Hell imagery. In his early work you see a struggle with having come into this industry at a very young age, being sexualized as a k-pop idol, and having to reconcile that with his religious upbringing (very much what "Guilty" is dealing with), but it's important to fully understanding his later work to know that in 2017, his SHINee bandmate Jonghyun took his own life. This has indelibly impacted Taemin's work since. Sure, you can read any of these songs on the surface as being about romantic relationships, but I think there's a deeper layer of meaning where Taemin is criticizing the K-pop industry, the entertainment press, or fans and antis online, as well as grieving his friend and reckoning with his own role in these institutions and feeling complicit. (You can also read some of these themes into songs from SHINee and other members' solos) "Criminal", "Idea", and "Advice" are a triptych. In "Criminal", one of his hands is evil and acting on its own. He's trying to control it, but at the same time wants to give in to it. Notice the similarity between the scene with hands pushing through the black walls and the scene in "Danger" where he's running through the stacks of speakers. In "Criminal" what he had been so hopeful about in his solo debut song has now become a nightmare. "Idea" continues the theme of the dream becoming twisted and being pulled in two directions. In "Advice", I think Taemin is directly tearing into the press and online gossipers. The scenes with the car make me think of Princess Diana being literally chased to death by paparazzi. In these mvs, though, we also have to talk about Taemin's tattoo, and how it speaks to his discomfort with being sexualized. In "Idea", he's not just wearing that crop top to be sexy, it's so you can catch a glimpse of the bandage on his side. Then in "Advice", he unveils the tattoo while singing "I'll destroy the torso you were chasing after." One last note on the Heaven and Hell imagery, you might notice that in the "Heaven" sequences, there's always something a little f'd up going on, as if Heaven isn't perfect after all, and maybe it's only a facade. If we take these mvs as the story of a fallen angel wavering between Heaven and Hell, I actually think Taemin's latest performance video for "The Rizzness" is the perfect follow up. In that one, he has synthesized Heaven and Hell, bringing them both into the same plane of existence, and also synthesized his own angel and demon into one and taken over. He's the boss now.

You might be right about there being two versions of him. I've always thought criminal, idea and advice are about his relationship with fame so it could be about himself as a person and himself as an artist. Also the female voice in Idea is BoA. Taemin has also featured Wendy and Taeyon in his songs. The Taemin you see in Think of You is the real one. When the music is on he is possessed by a demon and when the music ends he turns back into a baby. He's a mischief maker too. Since he's been famous since he was like 14 he's the baby of the K-pop industry so he gets away with everything 😂

wait till you hear his voice on his ballads... just saying... about the songs: Chriminal - the story is both about Stockholm syndrom, where he plays both the victim and the criminal (again, the duality thing), and his inner conflict between his idol side and person side. Idea - this is a continuation of Criminal. this is based off of Plato's theory of the form, where there i no good or evil, only a combination of both (very simplified). Taemin LOVES infusing different philosophies from around the world into his art. Think of You - as I've said in a different comment, this is a b-side off of the Idea album, it was for the fan and as cute as it sounds and looks, the lyrics are actually pretty sad. he filmed this in the same 2 days as 2 kids. while he was enlisted the fans would write him letters in the comments of this MV. and you are very right, Taemin is ADORABLE. he is the cutest person ever when not performing. he wrote the song himself. Advice - this finishes the Saga that has 2 kids (prequel), Criminal (Act 1) and Idea (Act 2). it is the epiloge of the series where he is his full self and won't let anyone tell him who to be and what to do. he realesed this a week before enlisting. and yes, he very much plays the piano. Guilty - the first solo song he released after 2 years away for his service. the song talked about an abusive relationship where he sings the side of the abuser but dances the side of the abused (this is like the opposite of Criminal). many believe this song is about what he went throgh growing up in the industry (he spent almost 2 thirds of his life in the industry, 3 years as a trainee and 16 years as an idol). This MV has a trailer that adds some more context to the story.

If you get time, go look at the comments for "Think of You." It was gift to the fans and when he enlisted he asked fans to write to him in the comments while he was away. There are some heartfelt letters in there and some fans wrote daily. Its very sweet.

I think, we are all obssesed with his vocal tone. I am, for sure. 😄 I recognized his voice in Navillera (My Day OST) after 5 sec. And, yes, they are to sides of him, in the MV-s, and in real life too. He is an adorable killer😉, and a true artist!💙

also, yes, all of Taemin's mvs have a story.... Criminal is about Stockholm Syndrome... Idea is based on Plato's Theory of Ideas, and how the ideal image of himself is both his messiah and it's killing him. Advice is deffo about following his own advice and how people are trying to press these ideas into him, always twisting his words... etc. Want is about temptation and has tons of biblical references.. This is a VERY simplistic way to summarize the themes in his mvs... but it's honestly a world, and it's really fun to grasp all the meanings since the themes somehow repeat themselves in many different forms.

Criminal and Guilty are my favorite Taemin TTs!! He is absolutely a phenomenal dancer and artist! He wants to be known for his art, so it's great that you recognized how much he puts into his art!

I am enjoying your Taemin reactions a lot! Yes, there are two sides of Taemin. He explores the subject of internal struggle a lot in his music. Criminal is based on Stockholm syndrome, one side of Taemin is the criminal, the other side is the victim. IDEA is inspired by Plato's Theory of Forms and is about Taemin finding his ideal self. I think it's about him finally understanding and accepting both sides of himself. Think of You MV has a different vibe because it was a gift for fans, like others already mentioned. And as others mentioned, he plays piano :) I think many of his title tracks have deeper/personal meaning which usually is hidden behind a more obvious story. Congrats! You reacted to the full Never Gonna Dance Again trilogy. The prologue is “2 Kids”, but the trilogy itself is “Criminal”, “IDEA”, then “Advice”. All the songs have multiple layers of meanings, but the underlying message and theme is Taemin’s internal struggle between idol-Taemin and IRL-Taemin. (As you guessed-his two sides.) “Criminal” touches on Stockholm Syndrome…being a willing captive to his idol persona. “IDEA” deals with Plato’s Theory of Idea: Form vs Identity…fighting to merge into one true self rather than two halves. “Advice” is basically his mic drop to the industry that has tried to conform him into their perfect idea of an idol, telling them to take his own advice and not push him around, that he’s going to stay true to himself. He’ll get tattoos if he wants (“destroying” his torso) - which is why he finally revealed his beautiful hip tattoo…the smeared makeup…androgynous clothing/hair…female backup dancers. No matter what, he’s going to do what he wants and the more they try to stop him, the faster he’ll shut them down. Btw, these are my opinions and interpretations, based partially on what Taemin has said himself and my own supposition. As perfect as these MVs appear, Taemin stays not just hungry, but FAMISHED. He never stops perfecting and creating and you’ll notice that with every live performance because they honestly get better and better and better. You’ll think he’s reached perfection and it’s impossible to improve, then he’ll add a dance break and anti-drop and you’ll nearly faint because he’s done it yet again. Side notes: Yes, Taemin is an accomplished pianist and has played since childhood. Secondly, another nifty aspect of IDEA is the female singing “Killing Me”… the man has all of SM Entertainment at his feet who’d be happy to beg for the opportunity to sing those little two-second clips but he just had to prove yet again he’s the Golden Maknae and graced us with the voice of the Queen Herself: BoA. He really is the most loved and spoiled maknae of all time and we love him for it. After all, it’s because he is so lovable and kind that everyone can’t help but spoil him.

I little about taemin for you.....early on taemin was considered pretty even more then alot of girls, so sm entertainment thought dressing him up for different shows like a girl was a great idea. This became hard on taemin, he wanted to Be known as a singer,artist and dancer so this weighed heavy on him. Plus the industry wanted to put taemin in a box make him more main stream. Advice is for all the haters that say that he is no good or needs to be a certain way. He is letting them known that he will continue doing things his way and take his own advice. In the lyrics there is a line that says, I will destroy the torso that you are chasing after. Taemin got a tattoo on his torso so that's what he is referencing. Taemin is a devote Christian so alot of his songs are about the good and evil battles between staying true to himself and the temptations of fame. So yes there is a battle between taemins selves. Playing piano yes taemin is great at it. Think of you is taemin taking us fans on a date with him to Paris, what a special gift he gave us. You really have to get to know taemin off stage to see what a blessing he is or when he is with his brothers shinee. We have watched taemin grow from a shy cute 14 year old to the strong powerhouse he is today. When taemin is with his group shinee, taemin himself has said shinee is his home, his protection, his safe place. To see where taemin started, watch him grow, see him morn the loss of his brother bandmate, to going through hardship in the military and watch him come back a powerhouse of great artistry is amazing. Taemin started training at age 11 years old, debuting at 14, being in shinee for 15 years, becoming a soloist at 21, while being in super m, shows just how talented and amazing taemin really is. The variety shows are going to blow you away because taemin is so sweet, smart, humble and truly funny. Thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you and the GOD of kpop taemin.

I highly highly recommend these 4 Bsides they are a must. Heaven, Rise, Soldier Just me and You There are alot of great bsides from him. This is just on my top Oh if u get a chance his Japanese song Sayonara Hitori is out of this world. Theses a MV for it too.

He is 100% all about duality. You can't miss the heaven/hell, good/evil references in his MVs. In Want, he was the devil (snakes, red suit, apple references, the Gates of Hell art installation) tempting Eve. And in so many of his MVs you can see devil/angel duality references. He's devoutly religious, and I think (I really don't know for sure) that the oversexualization of him in the industry since he joined SHINee and throughout his career may go against his beliefs. Again, it's just a theory. Or maybe it causes internal conflict. You can see by the one MV that he's just a sweet, cheerful bundle of sunshine, but he always has to portray a sexy, alluring persona.

I hope one of your live performances is the IDEA orchestra version, that one is majestic 🥵 Taemin's title tracks are all very deep, he reads a lot of philosophy as part of his inspiration and they tend to be very personal to him and his identity and his reflections on himself. TAEMIN is currently an artist who can combine it all: dancing, charisma, performing and singing at the highest level at the same time. 1/ Some idols can sing better than TAEMIN but I'm sure they can't reach his dancing level 2/ Some others may have a dancing level close to TAEMIN's level, but they certainly can't sing as well as him Especially, no one can do what TAEMIN does. His music is just so good, a song that i love a lot from him is "Sayonara Hitori" is a Japanese release but there's also a korean version of it titled "Goodbye" (btw Siyeon and SuA covered this song and it was so great). Also if you ever get to checking out his live stages "Heaven" from his second solo concert is definitely a must, is so amazing.

Oh I will watch your SHINee journey because all SHINee are vocalists and the main vocalists of SHINee trained Taemin. They were his vocals coaches. Jonghyun of SHINee also vocal trained EXO vocalists so if that tells you anything it's thar SHINee vocalists are amazing. They all have excellent solo work. My favorite vocalist is Key, just because his musical concepts are so unique and very outworldly. He created Keyland before Kwanya was a thing. He is very creative. He is a fashion director in SM and does styling for SHINee as well. Onew is the lead vocalist whose solo album Circle won best kpop album of 2023 by Billboard Music Awards. Jonghyun was the main vocalists who self composed alot of his music and composed and co wrote many songs for SHINee. He won many music show awards. Minho barely started his solo musical career, but he is doing so great. He primarily focused on solo acting projects, which he utilizes when he does mvs for his solo music. There is alot to see from this 16-year veteran group. 😮
