Solo vs Couple Travel: Which is better? (Showdown with Chrystine)

Today we are discussing Solo vs Couple Travel. Ever wonder if you'd have a better travel experience flying solo or with your special someone? The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are differences. Join Ten Degrees Warmer and our awesome travel buddy Chrystine - we've met up with her now in three countries on three different continents, Malaysia, Mexico, and now Montenegro (is it a coincidence that they all start with M???) But today we invited her over for a fun showdown - Solo vs Couple Travel!
We'll dive into different travel categories, sharing our experiences and insights on when it's better to explore with a significant other or a group, and when venturing solo might be the ultimate adventure. From budgeting to flexibility, spontaneity to luggage, we'll tackle it all!
So, which travel style will reign supreme? (We admit it is a tongue-in-cheek question lol) Tune in to find out and discover the perfect travel adventure for YOU!

I really like the distinction between single and solo. I identify as solo.

I totally agree with the Solo description, I am solo by choice, I like my solitude and freedom while traveling

It really is a great distinction, I was so glad Chrystine talked about it with us. 😀

Oh my goodness, what a treat to see the 3 of you chatting about this fun topic! Every moment was yummy but I just love the little musical moments popping into the video. And, a nice surprise to see our KL group photo pop up!

We owe a lot to that GWL meetup in KL, we met so many people that have influenced our travels since. You and Tim made something special with that group! 😀👍

What a great video and so nice to see Chrystine too! I definitely agree that solo travelers meet more people than couples do. But there are certainly advantages to couple travel beyond the lodging costs savings. As Chrystine pointed out just a simple thing like having your partner watch your bag while going to the washroom is an advantage for a couple. But it must also be nice to have the complete freedom of a solo traveler, being able to plan excursions and walks based solely on what you want to do and not having to reach consensus.

Yup, pros and cons on each side, depending on your perspective. But yes it was very fun to talk to Chrystine about it!

Solo is maybe more freedom to do what ever you want, but there is safety in couples, which may give some freedoms for couples, where a solo traveler may hesitate. Very good video.

Thanks for the comment! And you make good points, there are pros and cons to both, it just depends on what each traveler wants to do. 😀

Very valid points for all the categories. Advantages and disadvantages for each. I've been traveling with my Mom since I retired but while still working found solo travel groups for women. Which would take some responsibility off me but also restrict my freedom a bit. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences!

Thanks for commenting, and I'm glad to hear from someone else who is traveling with their mother. It has been such a joy for us but we haven't yet met anyone else in a similar situation. And yes, there are pros and cons for everything, so as long as you are making the most of whatever you choose, there isn't a "wrong" way to do it. Have a great day!

I have had the opportunity to meet a few solo travelers while with Robb and David and am absolutely intrigued by their journey, their specific experiences and outlook. Sometimes I get inspired to try travel on my own and would for sure in the US. Chrystine is gracious, open and interesting and I’m so fortunate to have met her!

Welcome, thanks for stopping by! Points can be amazing, particularly if you are from the US to be eligible for the best offers. We have used a lot of points over the years and love it, but we agree with Chrystine that it is a lot of work to manage and maintain, and we don't participate nearly as much as we used to. Like everything, it just depends on how much time and effort you want (and have) to put into it.

Is it weird that I “know” half the people in the KL group photo, and I was never there?
