SOLO TROLLING LAKE ONTARIO, Loner Trip for Shallow Water Spring Browns

A shallow water solo trolling trip on Lake Ontario on a beautiful afternoon in mid-April. Spring time on Lake Ontario brings some excellent nearshore fishing opportunities. As huge schools of Alewives move to shallow water to spawn, trout and salmon take advantage of the food source and cool water temps and can be targeted well inside 20 ft. of water. This opens up some awesome fishing opportunities for fishermen with small boats. In this video, I manage to land a couple of spring Brown Trout in 10 to 15 ft. of water on a rare, windless April afternoon.

    I have a buddy who I fish with on his boat all the time who yells at me every time I turn them off lol. But yeah, I've noticed the gopro mic really picks them up and makes them sound louder than in real life.

    Why does everyone use the clickers

  • @MudSharkZ

    @MudSharkZ

    @@orviskid You always want them on when setting rods when you're out trolling or you would backlash all the time. You can turn them off when fighting fish, but if you forget to click them back on, you could get messed up setting rods. That's why a lot of guys that troll a lot get used to just leaving them on.

    Awesome Brownies! I noticed you are using trolling bags. How slow are you trying to get down to and what speed is the slowest your yamaha gets you down at an idle?

    I have to run one bag at least to get down around 2.4 to 2.5 mph, which is what I was shooting for. I often run two bags, one on each side, when I fish deeper water, but one does the trick. Without a bag, I'm up near 3 mph, which is too fast.

    @@MudSharkZ that’a what i figured. If you dropped to a smaller diameter 4 blade and dropped a pitch or 2, I bet you could drop 1/2 to 3/4 of a mph at idle. I would assume your boat dealer would let you try some props. When propping you dont want to go over the rev limiter at wide open throttle. I have 2 different props I exchange out depending on my application of fishing or boating.

    @@BigLakeLittleBoat That's cool, I don't know much about props, but I like running bags anyway because they help stabilize the boat and I still only burn like 3 gallons on a half day trolling trip. I'm also taking my kids tubing all the time, and it hauls ass for pulling the Big Mable lol.

    @@kylematesic I have a bunch of them, and I'm a fan as well. Haven't run them much for brownies yet though. We have kings here now near Rochester. Fished last Sunday and got destroyed by angry kings in 20 ft. of water, plus some nice brownies, and a giant laker. Awesome trip, video coming soon.
