@@SmallBrainedAmerican They are good people . Its just that they have been discriminated against for a long time so you have some groups of gypsies that do commit alot crimes but usually the crime is theft 90% of the time like stealing copper or breaking into hla house and stealing stuff . I would say 50 % of the gypsies in Bulgaria live a normal life just like any other bulgarian but you do have a few gypsie ghettos like the one you visited that are run down . But i dont thing those placez danferous at all . There are alot of videos on KZread of forigners visiting them and they usually end up drinking with the gypsies and haaving a good time haha . I would copare the situation with gypsies in bulgaria with lets say the latino or black minorities in the USA . Goverment in Bulgaria needs to do more to integrate them in and also to help them finacially , build some housing for them but bulgaria is a poor country still so thats why you have these run down villages and towns where gypsies live . But generally they are good friendly people . Hope that helped ans explauned it little bit . Safe travels and enjoy your trip !

As i said not everyone is like this but big majority is they are cool people for small talk but rarely you will find gipsy who you can call trusted friend most of the time they will pretent to be friendly only to have some benefit from you.

The Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party (Bulgarian: Дом паметник на БКП, romanized: Dom pametnik na BKP), also known as the Buzludzha Monument (/ˈbʊzlʊdʒə/), was built on Buzludzha Peak in central Bulgaria by the Bulgarian communist government and inaugurated in 1981. It commemorated the events of 1891, when a group of socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organized socialist movement that led to the founding of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, a forerunner of the Bulgarian Communist Party (itself a forerunner of the current Bulgarian Socialist Party).

13:22 The epitome of American ignorance. Locals are born and raised their telling you not to go somewhere because they've been around it since birth but a westerner on his first trip there thinks he knows better than them, even though there's statistics that backup what the locals are saying. But we're supposed to think it's just "racism". That's the same exact logic that got the 2 Scandinavian hikers head's chopped off in Morocco when they wandered into an area locals told them not to go but they thought they knew better.

Hi friend, comming from a country that hosts quite a significant number of gypsies(not as many as Bulgaria)and also personally living close to them and having friends who unfortunately experienced first hand some of these terrible things, i can tell you that sadly most of the stereotypes about them are true. Most of them do not feel they need put their children through primary school, they live in illegal setlements and live of off child support exclusively while having 6-10 children starting from age 12. They get extra funds either by stealing, gathering copper, steel and items that people leave on the street or by begging scams. Police is afraid of them, because they are usually armed and dont care about any repercussions and even start fights between themselves in hospitals or other institutions. I know a person they kidnapped from a club at 2 am drove him around all night , threatened him with knives and visiting him at his home if he doesnt empty his bank account. In the morning he was forced to go into the bank with one of them to withdraw the remainder of funds( the atm only allows 400$) and ditched him in some field in the middle of nowhere. They were caught and got 3 years. Another time there was a mini pet zoo close to some elementary school for kids to play with the animals and they came and beheaded the goats, took the organs and left the carcass there for kids to see in the morning. Things missing from peoples backyards in their vicinity is normal etc etc. That said there is a group of them living in the other part of the country who seem to be more civilized and integrated, with normal jobs and legal setlements to be fair. Good luck with your travels.

I'm Bulgarian and to put it bluntly there is a lot of racist sentiment towards gypsies in Bulgaria and Europe in general. Gypsies are the poorest members of society in Bulgaria which means they are pushed to crime and generally don't merge with the rest of society (Many don't send kids to school) thus perpetuating racist attitudes. Kinda like America pre civil rights movement.

@@georgipavlov2585 there is nothing "racist" in the anti-gypsy sentiment. it's entirely cultural. And if poverty was the reason for the crime, eastern europe would have been like Mad Max : Fury Road. Poverty is the logical outcome of their f-ed up culture and mentality, not the other way around. There are lot minorities in Bulgaria, no other has the same negative reputation towards them like the gypsies. And if someone says that's because bulgarians are racists is just someone who never had any serious dealings with gypsies. Similar to the schmuck in this video who just passed by the neighborhood, nothing bad happened to him and now he is an expert on the "racists" eastern europeans. Typical american - calling everyone racist ...

Eastern Europe is very safe in most of their parts, especially where gypsies went outside in places like UK, Germany, France and are well off. They usually dont make trouble at home so you were lucky to stumble in such a place. Im from Romania, where the biggest population of them is and the same is here. But if you go in sketchy places, most likely you will get picked on and robbed if you aren't careful. But i would still consider black hoods in US way more dangerous than anything Eastern Europe has to offer.

I think it depends on the region. I grew up in a gypsy neighbourhood in Bulgaria and Roma definitely rubs people wrong at the very least, especially the older population. If alcohol is mixed in the situation you can (rarely) get your ass beaten up. Most see it as westerners dictating their way of life. Yeah in both Bulgarian and Gypsy the word for gypsy is tsganin(циганин) but most call themselves gypsy in English.
