SOLO overnight, TINY cabin in the BOREAL forest

First overnight since the polar vortex was here, and the failure of the wood heater! Although not as cold as the last time being here, the heating system in the tiny cabin will have an additional heat source in the diesel heater installation! Of course a campfire cooked meal, gorgeous setting and a relaxing time, after the upgrade to the cabin is complete!

Here is Southern Ontario we certainly aren’t seeing winter, almost no snow in January and only a few cm in December. Temps today were in the 10-12 C range. Certainly missing the real winter, haven’t had any ice on Lake Erie for ice fishing either. Guess we are going to have to figure out how to fish through the winter without ice now. Great videos, I really enjoy watching you living the adventure.

Thanks! Yes, it is like we have had two full seasons of autumn, with a few days of winter and extreme cold days in the middle. There still is time to get some snow, but with the days getting longer the chances of that dwindle. Thanks for tuning in and commenting!

We will have to see John, so far not good odds on getting a pile of snow this year. Would be great to get a lot of rain this spring.

Could you put the heater on the porch and put the hose into the cabin? Also make sure and grab a carbon monoxide detector. Can’t wait to see the new stove. I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks so much!

Thanks! I was thinking of that, but I don't want the heater outside in the elements and in the extreme cold as it may effect the performance of the heater. The noise pollution it puts out would make the outside louder as well. The diesel heater may only be used for nighttime when I sleep and don't want to get up to tend the wood heater. But I will keep the diesel heater inside the cabin. The noise when I am sleeping makes good white noise to fall asleep to, I just turn it down to it's lowest setting, which makes it quieter. Thanks for tuning in and watching!

Yes, your warmer weather in Alberta has moved to our WNY area quite nicely! (won’t last long of course, because it is early February). This is another fun and informative cabin video, especially as it relates to the engineering around the wood stove. Your meal looked great, as usual! (And the creamed corn made me smile - something I used to prepare for my husband; passed in 2022). I do hope you find a great parlor stove because your cabin videos have made me into a heating source purist! The sound from the diesel heater is a bit of a distraction from the ambience, but ultimately, your comfort and safety is most important! Thanks for the episode!

Thank you Lisa! Yes, this episode was a good one! The diesel heater worked great, with the exception of the noise it puts out. The diesel heater will probably only be used during the night (after the next episode) when I sleep as the noise ruins the atmosphere and takes away from the content. A parlor stove would be ideal I think, as it would put off good heat, be more controllable and take up less space as a vertical heater. It would also add a unique, vintage look to the interior. Just have to find one now. My condolences on the loss of your husband. Thanks for tuning in and commenting Lisa!

In the video the diesel heater seems obtrusively loud. Is it that loud or does your microphone exaggerate the volume of it? As always appreciate the video!

It is loud, I think the microphone picks it's loudness more than it actually is. It works great for heating the cabin though.

Man a good quality wood stove will change life at the cabin, several good stove brands made up north, a soap stove would carry the heat much longer over night, some of the blaze king and Lopi stoves would likely heat until the morning no need to refill overnight- I enjoy your channel

Another guy I watch from NewFoundland has that same diesel heater. I need to look into it myself. My opinion would be to purchase the longer black tube and leave it where it is. Buying the longer exhaust tube is more risky for accidental puncture and exposure to exhaust fumes. Just my pov

No reason to use a battery for the diesel heater and then charge it from the Bluetti. A direct connection from the Bluetti to the heater would be more efficient.

Thankful for having a real airtight and hardwood, none of that American EPA nonsense after seeing this. That stove can't be Canadian made for Canadian weather. Junk.
