I travel north to explore a new area, I hike in for 3 hours, test out a new bushcraft type backpack, make a bowdrill kit, sleep in a hammock, and ride out a thunderstorm under a tarp.
This is the first of two videos, P2 to follow soon.

Joe, your channel is changing my life (sincerely). I was completely sedentary and after trying so many sports and activities I though that nothing was making me really happy. Once I discovered your channel I said: this is what I want for me. And so did I. I'm super happy camping outside and even happier by learning things with you. Thanks a lot man. You seem to be a very nice guy. A super friend! Thanks!

Wesley Alves Was it easy to get into? I've been dreaming of camping overnight like this one day, wish my family was a lot more into camping and nature. The only time I camp is when my friends family invites me out to camp in an RV on RV parks. Did you spend an exorbitant amount getting into this? Is it something you needed to put a lot of funds aside to pursue? Thanks!!

Joe, I'm a new subscriber - love your videos buddy, you have some fantastic country around you (UK is so small!)...if you're interested I have a tip for your beer that I use when me and my son go camping, if you spin the ring pull around on the can (so it doesn't pull open) and tie some cordage to it you can anchor the can to a tree and let it dangle in running water without worrying about it floating away - the can also gets colder much quicker too due to the running water 👍 keep up the good work!

Rest easy Navy Davy, unfortunately the hubris of the uneducated is astounding in this one. Nothing defines a definitive argument like conjunctions, a myriad of punctuation mistakes, and broken sentence structure while operating under the guise of free speech, and attempting to repress another's view. Toting human communication, one can very easily ascertain that his ability to present a cognitive representation without resorting to primitive vernacular speaks to the value he has as a person. The silver lining amid the very essence of his construct being that his extraordinarily limited perception will gratefully die with him.

I think he is in the wrong place to express these views. Joe does a great job of producing videos that are educational. I've been a long time viewer of joe and family. I started to ,ake a few videos my self, mainly of church services so those who could not attend the services would be able to watch on-line. I was disabled at work and have has four operations over the pas t 20 months. I don't think I'll ever be able to walk again like a normal adult. I watch Joe's videos because I wish I had taken my life in a different direction and been more like Joe. As my screen name claims I served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years. I went around the world four times. After twenty years I retired with four children who didn't even know me. I had been at sea 15 years 6 months out of the twenty years served. My first wife had died of cancer and right at the end of my Military service I lost my five year old daughter in a fire. I respect Joe for spending time with his wonderful wife and daughter , taking them out on camping trips and just spending time with them. Joe emulates the kind of guy one would like to have as a friend. Weather he tells someone God bless you or not is not up for debate. If you are looking for a discussion board based with the losers in Barkley CA. I was raised right across the bay in the Mission District of San Francisco CA. Get over your bad self. This is a family friendly zone. Join Joe as he adventures out taking us along. Buy and save a beer so as he drinks his you can join him and be there with him. I beg of you keep the language clean and the hating down. This will be the last time I broach this subject. May the Lord Jesus bless all who come to this site and watch the videos. God has given Joe a talent and he shares it with us all. ENJOY.
I've watched this three times now ❤ Can't wait for the next big trip!
It’s a hell of a lot more comfortable than the ground! I can sleep in my hammock in the middle of the day for hours. Love it
Hey Joe, just found your videos and enjoying them a lot. Wanted to give a hammock noob some tips on hammock sleeping to make your nights more comfortable: First off the type of hammock you have is called an Asym - they are designed to be slept in diagonally, with your head at one of the bungie tied outs (the bungies not only widen the hammock but they stop it rocking too much in high winds) and your feet at the other, gives you a flatter, more comfortable position. Secondly, tie a small piece of paracord around the tie up ropes just before they meet the hammock material at each end and hang the loose ends downward, these act as drip lines to stop rainwater running off the trees, down the ropes and soaking into the ends of the hammock. Lastly, a cheap fleece / flock picnic blanket with a waterproof backing makes a great hammock 'rug', tie thin bungie cord to two opposite corners of the blanket and the other ends to the furthest points of the ridgeline, then put your mattress on top of it to hold it in place. It should lie in the hammock diagonally in a diamond shape. It lines your hammock with cozy fleece and stops those horrible cold moments in the middle of the night when your arm or shoulder come into contact with chilly hammock nylon :) Stay safe guy
Joe awesome video love your solo camps your personality really shines because you have no one else to talk to but us LOL can't wait for part 2

Great video. I love watching Joe. It's especially refreshing when he could care less about the weight of an item like a lot of hiking KZreadrs and ounce counters. I get so tired of hearing about load outs and gear shakedowns it's almost sickening sometimes. Go Joe 👍

Hi Joe, I recently found your site. I sit in an office and so appreciate your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your camping trips with us. I really like the way you set up the camera and we can see you walking or when you pan around and share the things that you see with us. You teach me things, well sort of. I'm sure I would not recognize a beaver that chomped on a tree, but I enjoy you sharing those things with us. You are full of knowledge and you share it. The first time I went camping I went with a group called "Mosaic". It was in Florida. we Canoed up the Swanee River. We had our stuff in plastic bags and would camp out at one spot and move on to another one the next day. We did some mean camping!! It was a first for me so I really wasn't prepared and I wasn't use to not having a bathroom. My friend had given me an air mattress that did not work. So I was pretty miserable on my first night. It was also cold. I had a headache and was constipated (hey you share your stuff!!). I wanted to go home. I remember sharing the canoe and telling the person to just leave me off somewhere so I could go back home!! The second night some folks took care of me. I shared a tent so I wasn't so cold and I was given aspirin (had a major headache) and finally went to the bathroom. What a turn around. In the morning I was looking for wood for the fire. I ended up having a good time!!! So I found out that I liked camping!!! It has been a long time. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I also like when you take Scout. He is such a good dog. You are good with him. It 's nice to see. Sheila
I think that you watched Shug too much!! LOL We have been using hammocks for almost two years now. I always leave the stuff sack on the suspension. Nice setup! I use down quilts from Enlightened Equipment. Good quality and price! You can come and join us on an adventure in the U.P. of Michigan! Anyway another excellent video Joe! Bob
