Solo Motorsports LCA Install (3rd Gen 4runner/1st Gen Tacoma)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Did our video help you? If so, consider buying us a beer: bit.ly/3feE6tJ
In this video, we show you how to install a set of stock length solo motorsports lower control arms on a 3rd generation Toyota 4runner. These arms push the lower ball joint 1” forward, allowing for more clearance with bigger tires. These are also compatible with the 1st Gen Toyota Tacoma, and they also have stock length options for the Tundra 00-06 & Sequoia 00-07 platforms. We install some other goodies as well in this video like KPOFFROAD’s greasable CAM bolts and CAM eliminators, a billet 6061 aluminum steering rack clamp from 333 Fabrications, and some bump stops from Perry Parts.

    Oh my God Dude. We HATE time-lapses when it comes to DIY tutorials. Time-lapses have their place, but definitely not as an instructional tutorial. They are horrible because they show no detail whatsoever. We are all about lots of detail so people can succeed using our videos. People might complain about the length of our videos, but they can't complain we don't offer enough information.

    Should have done cam tab reinforcement while you were in there. Had a buddy a few months ago flatten his tabs on a wheeling run. Just to today I got done with a wheeling run and minutes after airing up I slid on some ice into a guardrail and bent one of my tabs. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any other damage besides some scratches on my Addicted Offroad but my alignment is hosed.

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    @TimmyTheToolman

    6 ай бұрын

    Yeah, reinforcing the cam tabs would have been a good idea. I've never bent one. Maybe I don't wheel hard enough. But, I have a theory that most people that flatten their tabs from a hard hit are mostly due to improperly tightened cam bolts. After an alignment, I double-check how tight the bolts are. It's the bolts that are property tightened that are supposed to hold the LCAs in place, not the cam tabs. The cam tabs are there for alignment purposes. Anyway, that my theory on why guys flatten their cam tabs.

  • @rushthezeppelin

    @rushthezeppelin

    6 ай бұрын

    @@TimmyTheToolman hmm I tend to think mine were properly torqued after my very recent alignment. I do go to a specialty offroad shop that mostly deals in Toyotas and I haven't lost alignment on normal wheeling like some people complain about. In my case though smacking a guardrail at 30+ is probably a harder hit than most people take offroad and could have overcome that clamping force.

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    @TimmyTheToolman

    6 ай бұрын

    @rushthezeppelin Yeah, a 30 mph hit is significant. That way more force than most people would subject their wheels to when 4wheeling. I wonder even with reinforced tabs how they would have faired from that impact.

  • @TimmyTheToolman

    @TimmyTheToolman

    6 ай бұрын

    The ride is great if you don’t add too much spring preload. I had to increase my preload a bit to fit the 34” tires. In the future I plan to swap out the springs for a heavier weight (650 or 700lb spring) so I don’t have to crank up the preload, other than that, the adjustment with the DSC is nice and you can dial in the ride you want for the certain condition you’re in. • @TimmyTheToolman

    The benefit is you have a permanent alignment solution because the rounded cams from the stock set up, allow for more movement, which means it can get out of alignment easier with some hard wheeling, or maybe even a big pothole but with these cam eliminators, you have hard set positions that it can’t really jump out of because of the shape of the cam eliminator. - Sean

    You probably still have to do some mods to go over 33s. This probably just helps avoid having to cut your firewall. I would think you would still need to modify your fenders. For reference I have 33s with progressive bumpstops and took a hard hit off-road on my driver's side that completely bottomed me out into the shorter OEM bumps and I apparently had the tire hit the fender and bend it a bit where my marker light doesn't quite fit right anymore.

    Yes, these control arms will work for 1st Gen Tacomas. 2004 was the last year of the 1st Gen Tacoma.

    @TimmyTheToolman also you mentioned that the tire will be moved forward by an inch. I have went from the stock 16" rims to 17" rims on 30s and have rubbing of inner fender. Will the mod help reduce the rub?

    @@MrToxicsoldier93 If you're rubbing on the rear side of the tire, it will absolutely help.

    We appreciate you being vulnerable with your humility. Even the pro’s mess up from time to time. It happens! The nice thing about our videos is we try and take out most of the guess work from the job someone is about to tackle. - Sean
