You're supposed to lay diagonally in a 2 point hammock to straighten out your body. It's not good to "banana" when you sleep it's really bad for your back and quality of sleep.

  • @noyopacific

Agreed, a diagonal lay is critical to hammock comfort. It also looked like maybe your feet were higher than your head. While hammocks can be remarkably comfortable, the effective use of a hammock definitely takes practice. It was a good thing you didn't try using a rainfly over the hammock. Adjusting the lines to suspend a rainfly is an exercise in patience. Another great video ! I enjoyed your rambling-on about your editing goals and process. BTW, you might consider a receiver hitch carrier for the bike rather than a trailer. The use of a hitch carrier requires tight ratchet strapping and a fork brace to prevent the handlebars from breaking the back window of your FourRunner if you hit the brakes too hard.

Lay at a diagonal in the hammock, makes you less of a banana. Much more comfy! Remember a tent isnt going to stop a bear or squirrel, so enjoy the stars in the hammock.

For an excellent ride you should go the back way from Lake Pleasant to Crown King, down into Prescott. From Prescott take Williamson Valley Rd. to Seligman. It's all good dirt road, except for going thru Prescott of course. Excellent country. Would be about 150 mile ride.

I'm going to add to what Dakota said earlier. You should have your body angled in the hammock, also, you are using an "ENO" type hammock which are great loungers but not that great for camping. The trees look to be too close, you want about 15 feet between them for the perfect hang. The hammock also looks like you need more slack so that when you do lay diagonal you have the material available to lay flat. I would recommend checking out warbonnett outdoors, Hennessey hammocks or dream hammock. You may have a little bit of sticker shock when you see how much a dedicated camping hammock costs but they are worth it. Check out Shug Emory's channel on KZread and he will tell you most of what you need to know about hammocks. Setup is key.

Love the videos man!! Just a suggestion, you should get a holster for your Beretta. That way you can keep it in the hammock with you instead of next to you. Just from a self defense/safety standpoint. A holster will also keep your firearm secure in your backpack. Keep up the awesome edits!

Love your edits... Having a tarp strung above you will keep the dew off of you. Sleep diagonally, you will sleep flatter. There is a guy on KZread called SUGEMERY that has a ton of good info on hammock camping

It takes awhile to get acclimated to sleeping in a hammock. If you actually want to camp in a hammock you need to sleep on a pad or get an underquilt. You also have to sleep diagonally. You can sleep on your side. I do every night. I have a hammock stand in my bed room and sleep in it every night. I like to do a lot of stealth camping with my hammock on my XT250.

Long comment but I think you’ll appreciate it. I am a new subscriber looking at getting back into bikes after a two year hiatus. Back in 2016 I got hit by an f-150 riding to work and ended up losing my right foot about half way up my calf. Even after all that I still wanted to get back on two wheels and I originally started on a dr-200 doing trail rides so I wanted to get back to that. I just got home from a camping trip out in ocatillo where another one of our campers brought a few dirt bikes I took a shine to a little Honda 125 and I think pretty soon I’ll be picking up a used bike I’m actually leaning towards getting another dr200 but we’ll see I’m not in it for speed Just trail riding and bike camping. Doing a bit of research I stumbled into your latest video and I’ve just been binging all morning great stuff man I love the riding, setup, then camp talk it’s a great thing you’ve got going. Hopefully you keep making videos because it’s motivation for me to get back out there on my own and do some rides and some camping. Great channel, great videos, and excellent info

I love hammock camping! Its all about falling asleep starring at the starts, and in my opinion it is way more comfortable then the ground! I also always sleep with my pad in my hammock, this helps insulate the body from the cold air underneath it. Extra plus is easy pack up, as you said.

Never been a hammock fan ,I think I'd rather sleep on rocks haha....I like how light you packed on this trip and I guess the hammock helped with that at least. I have a kelty bivy tent "thingermagig" I guess you call it. Works ok and packs much smaller than a tent. Looks you have some nice spots to camp down in AZ and a great bike and great setup cant wait until spring!

great video! I couldn't sleep almost at all the first night I tried hammock camping, but the second night I slept comfortably for like 8 hours straight. I think there is an art to sleeping in hammocks haha I don't think I could sleep without a bug net here, I would be a free all night long buffet for mosquitoes. I also usually run out of water motocamping, I have to decide if I want coffee or should just drink the water, I have a filter system but I usually have to decide if I want to camp next to water or camp with an amazing view, I haven't found both yet

I like the way you edit and yeah that intro was the bomb.. really sets the scene. I've not got a computer so can't edit at the moment because the new bike comes first then I'll be back to making silly camp videos with new software . I think my Moto vids will be somewhere between yours and tdubs kids, I like to show cooking and survival techniques but I'm not much of a talker because everything I say ends up being controversial haha too many snowflakes about so I plan to do a bit of bike stuff but mostly camp talk as 99% of my subscribers don't ride bikes but my last few bike vids picked up a few bikey subs so it might even out once I'm Moto camping on the regular with the new bike. Don't worry about that ticking on the xr, sounds like a rocker , pop the caps off when you get home and check the gaps on the in and out ... Tiny bit of slack on the out is my guess or just a bit low on oil. If my xr starts rattling I just put more oil in haha I keep saying when it dies I'll do a big bore but it never dies. Great vid buddy.

Go diagonal in the hammock though you can thank me later, that being said I went back to ground because hammocks are too fidgety on setup, there's nowhere to put gear, and you can't really be in more than one position or do anything if stuck there longterm in shit weather.

Hey, do you know what people also under value on edits? color correction, when it's well done, it can really bring to life a clip, added the perfect music. The easiest way i know is with davinci program( you can use free or paid, but the free version is way more complete for what 99% of people need), you got two bars ( one on the top one on the bottom ) you put your highlights almost to the top bar, to the same to shadows/lows to bottom bar, and your done and ready to export to your favorite video editor ( simplifying things here ). The more you spend on the post process the better the outcome. Keep bringing good quality videos buddy, you are on the right track. Fan from Portugal!

Something Skyler Good shone me where rolling timing just close then dicking with valve clearance , guessing just a touch more on exhaust will see when going to look at results on paper so too speak . Your getting there , Thanks be

P.S. I find your fore valve chamber is capable of inducing swirl by running different valve clearances adjusted from a clockwise direction with first exhaust closest to port and sometimes leaning back to intake in the clock for high R.P.M. . You can do that from what I've seen with your time . Later Kid
