*FAQ:* ▪Again, this was *NOT my bike.* It was a press bike from Honda, that I was borrowing, I could not have put engine guards on it myself. * I KNOW Engine Guards are good* , you'll see that I have them on my own bike in other videos of the CB500x. ▪I DID have the parking brake on, you'll notice once I get the bike up the tires stop moving. Yes, I know about the front brake trick. I thought the parking brake would be enough to keep the wheels from moving. As it only took me one try to lift the bike even though the wheels moved, it wasn't imperative to me to put it back on the ground to pick it up "the right way" again. ▪I could not put the bike in gear, it is a DCT -hence the parking brake- ▪Trying to say this bike is "too heavy" for me because I crashed after clipping a rut, is not a logical argument, as even people on tiny dirt bikes crash after clipping a rock or a rut in the wrong way. I picked the bike up alone, I will ride what I want Thanks. ▪Why would I leave the luggage on to pick up a motorcycle? Seems silly to pick up more weight than you have to in any situation.

I have a 22 AT AS. I'm 5'8 and 160lbs. The bike is remarkably easy to pick back up. I saw the comment pinned. I was really glad I had lower engine guards and steel cases when I crashed. The only damage was trashing the mirror, which is cheap to replace. People saying negative about it, I've only ever owned 250's and its a very easy bike to take on honestly. The hardest part is learning the 5,000,483 buttons and options.

Amanda, I'm always amazed at the times I go down, often NOT on the worst of the roads, but just in the moment of surprise. Plastics can be fixed/repaired/replaced. The bike is a tool to be used for its intended purpose, not a prize to be mounted on a trailer, perfectly clean and polished. You owned it. You admitted the "kerfuffle" and even included the video. Kudos to you for your honesty and transparency. I am now a Patreon of your channel. I also love the BDR routes.

So even though it sucks to eat it, I still think this was a very positive video for a few reasons: First, the point you made about listening to your inner voice is so true. Tons of times I have ignored it or gone offroad when feeling foggy or not 100% and have usually gotten myself into trouble. Second, despite eating it, you got up, got back on and completed that leg - which is always a positive in my book. And despite the cosmetic damage, the AT shows it can take some bumps and keep going for sure (outstanding bike). I switched over to an ADV bike 2 years ago and I ride offroad a pretty decent amount now, and eating it occasionally is just part of it - fixing the damage is too (I am on my 3rd set of plastics on my T7! lol). End Screen - I think I would definitely say the WYBDR especially from your riding footage - absolutely stunning. Great post as usual.

@@AstheMagpieFlies This was a timely video for me. I just completed the intro course at Rawhyde Adventures in Southern CA so I could gather sufficient skill to hit some BDR's next year with my 1250GSA. I dropped in training doing technical turns 4 times over the weekend and now have bruises in places that didn't hit the ground. But like you, the experience is worth the incidents. You just have to ensure you stop if your body is telling you to and don't hesitate to get back on the bike once your are ready. Love your channel and thanks for the view into your adventures!

Thank you for a very telling video and lesson on riding when you're not at your best. Glad to see you're able to recover from your migraine. On our Great Divide trip in August 2022, I woke up in Yellowstone with severe vertigo. I had to crawl to the picnic table for breakfast. Recovered enough to ride around Yellowstone that day (still not fully recovered). Should have stayed in camp, but pride and not wanting to hold my partner back, headed north. 2 days later, probably from the vertigo symptoms, I had a get off resulting in being unconscious for 6 minutes. Thank goodness my brand new NeoTec saved my head and face. Released from hospital that day, back to Afton, WY, then foolishly continued on resulting in a 2nd crash/concussion and ending the trip. This was a hard lesson for me and my riding partner: If anyone in your group has an illness/condition that affects their riding.....DON'T RIDE!!!! It's not worth saving a trip at the expense of potentially screwing up yours for the rest of you life! Fortunately I've recovered.

This video really resonated with me. I rode my GS on some remote trails in NE Wyoming in September and found where my grandparents homesteaded 100 years ago. Thoughts of getting injured that far from any other human definitely crossed my mind. The landowner knew i was there, but I felt very alone. I managed to keep the bike right side up and was glad I made the trip. Coincidentally, I stayed in the same room in Thermopolis in 2017.

Dang that was a heck of a fall. Glad you are relatively okay. I think you handled the fall better than a lot of people I have seen, either the power of editing helped or you just really didn't throw a fit😄. Almost as if you, as an experienced ADV rider, have already accepted that eventually the bike will go down and it's really no big deal as long as you are good. Personally I would have cussed a bit and laughed it off. I have had to help my buddy pick his AT/AS up a couple times and that said, you did awesome in getting that beast back upright. I have the same bike but manual transmission.

lol no fit thrown, the only thing missing was the 15 minutes I laid against the bike waiting for the adrenaline to go away and making sure I didn't break any bones lol Thanks BigDave!

I lived and motorcycle in Wyoming for 25 years and I sure miss the summers and the scenery. The Snowy Range was my backyard and I spent countless summer days tearing up the trails on my little KTM 250. Great ride and I’m so impressed with your ability to pick up that bike!

Great to see your video, I am happy to know that you are doing what you like and sorry for your "spill" on that hard packed dirt surface. I am very happy to hear what you said: Listen to your body! I have much respect on traveling on a motorbike and safety for me has always been first. I am looking forward to see more of your travels because it is such inspiration, love the music too very soothing, and more power to you in lifting such heavy pig. Cheers from Central Coast Cali.

Hello Amanda, I live in a small village in the south of France and when I'm not riding on the Trans Euro Trail's tracks with my Tenere, I like to watch your videos from time to time because I tell myself that one day I'll go and test your trails too. I hope you are well after this first fall and that it did not discourage you, certainly it was impressive even to watch comfortably behind my screen 😉 In this period of end of the year 2022, I wish you to spend beautiful holidays surrounded by your close relations.
