Solo Hiking 96 Miles in the Scottish Highlands - West Highland Way Full Movie

My West Highland Way journey - Milngavie to Fort William (Ben Nevis)
I solo hiked 96 miles in the Scottish Highlands at the end of September! My journey was full of challenges but also Incredible moments over the 7 days.

This film is intentionally slow so you can relax, enjoy the scenery and feel like you're hiking with me. Apologies the audio quality isn't the best, I'm new to filming and don't have proper equipment yet (plus the wind was insane).

Kit List - Everything I took / bought along the way:
• rab jacket (cirrus jacket, was waterproof)
• sun hoodie (also rab, very lightweight)
• 2 t-shirts
• 2 pants
• 3 pairs socks
• hiking trousers
• waterproof trousers
• Fleece (to wear at camp / accommodation)
• slide on shoes (for camp / accommodation)
• hiking boots
• sunhat & glasses
• wooly hat
• lite 700 sleeping bag (I believe polyester, would recommend a stronger tog)
• tent (blackthorn highlander, don't recommend)
• inflatable sleeping mat with pillow
• jetboil
• microfibre towel
• flint
• camping spoon
• 1.5l and 330ml water bottles
• lifestraw water filter
• ankle support, blister plasters
• toiletry items (sunscreen, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, talcon powder, wet wipes, toilet tissue, hand sanitizer, vitamins, razor)
• 8 camping meals + snacks
• power bank (was needed!)
• electronics & chargers
• waterproof rain-cover for rucksack
Osprey Rucksack 44l
If you go in summer take midge spray and a midge net hat
I packaged everything except the tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat into 5 dry bags for example I put all my dry clothes into the largest dry bag and electronics were in a small dry bag, items I wanted easier access to I put in the zip compartments of the rucksack.
I was quite unlucky with the weather, it's very changeable could be hot & sunny one minute then storming the next. Hope this helped!
Maxi ☺

Such a great and often brutally honest video. There’s so many fluffy postcard perfect West Highland Way videos on KZread that paint it as an almost effortless cosy journey with all their years of experience and expensive camping equipment, but seeing a real relatable new person like yourself out there and overcoming the horrible weather, cold and pushing through with sheer determination and heart was so uplifting and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing the highs, lows and real adventure. Do the Pennine Way next! 😊

Thank you so much! Yes it's true there are so many experienced hiking videos on the WHW doing it in nice weather. I definitely should have done a 1 night test of my tent etc before going on this but I didn't imagine it would be that bad and I planned it all quite last minute. A good learning experience anyway and I still had a great thu-hike 😄 I'm actually planning on taking my new tent out for a test tomorrow and I think the weather still not great but it's been bad for weeks and I just want to get out haha. Okay I will check out the Pennine way!! Cheers ✌

@@Maxi-333 I don’t eat meat from land animals, eggs or milk but I do eat fish and lots of vegetables, nuts, fruit etc. it’s always nice to find vegan cafes which I find invariably have a really welcoming vibe too 😃. Tent Meals aren’t as dehydrated as ones in vacuum packs so can rehydrate with less water than fully dehydrated pouches and also hydrate with cold water over a longer period of time. Their packaging is minimal too. Shelf life is a few months instead of a few years though! Different topic: I think you would enjoy WildBeare’s camping adventures on KZread if you haven’t come across her yet. She visits Gwynedd and her rough adventures are more about nature and her surroundings than ‘conquering peaks’. 🙏

Watched it! Liked it man, really really comparable to my own WHW trip, about a week later and still had storm Agnes rests etc. Was wet ALL THE FRICKIN TIME haha :p. I also like the longer videos, I think it’s more detailed and immersive than for example a 15 minute ‘I did the WHW’ video. A tip I could give is to buy a tent that’s a bit ‘higher’, like I have the terra Nova helm compact one and Its great because you can actually sit upright in it. Most of the time a bit heavier than the windtunnel type solo tents but I gladly carry a few 100 grams extra for this. Lookin forward to further adventures and videos mate! Well done
