Solo 680 vs Stihl 056 Super

Built Solo 680, fairly Stock 056. 20" pine on the 680 side, about 16" on the 056 side.

@Docrw What an awesome comment. You know those cuttings tests are pretty idiotic and what really counts is not if you cut a tree in 3 or 5 seconds but the overall quality of a saw. I have a 20 year old MS260 that saw a lot of action and never had any major problems or malfunctions...thats something Husqvarna or any other company has to beat before I buy anything but Stihl.

The solo is a great saw. I would have bought one if I had seen a second-hand one for sale but could only find a Stihl; but I have no complaints except that it wont start when slightly warm.

Have to agree with KnorpelDelux: Until something runs / functions better than my Stihl MS250, the next saw will be a Stihl also. Had an old (bought in 1982) Homelite 330 that worked very well for years, but could not get parts readily anymore so I went with the Stihl in 2008.

@KnorpelDelux Solo's are now built in the stihl factory under contract. Best value quality saws are Efco ,also sold in joh deere branding such as the cs52, cs56, cs62 pro-series models.Made in Italy.

I am not angry, mio amico^^ Thing is, I grew up with a Stihl and there is nothing I would have to bitch about on those saws. Husky, Stihl, Dolmar, Solo...there are quite a few high quality saws on the market. In the end what matters really is personal preference and of course service support in your own region.

In most cases it's the sharpness of the chain, I just bought a cheap but made by Husqvarna chainsaw and it cuts pretty damn wicked, for a 10 dollar bill ya couldn't go wrong.

that solo cut super fast. must be a pithy log. 80.7 cc on the solo, 6.4 hp. 81 cc on the 056, 5.6 hp on the stihl, unless it is a mag or AVE. Nice video. I still won't sell my 066 to buy a solo. But I sold my husky 365 to buy my 066!

Comparar una "solo" con una stihl,es compara el dia con la noche.Para los que no saben esta muy bien, solo hay que ver el tamaño de la espada de la stihl, para comprender que va a ser mas lenta...esto es de cajon.

people need to test saws with identical bar sizes and chains. It's near impossible to see a fair chain saw test. I have a Stihl 028WB from 1980. Best running saw I have, it starts easier and pulls harder than the new saws I have of different brands. Stihls are built to last.

Lol this is just like stationary engines. Like generators. The slow ones like old Listers have had 50-80 year service lives in some cases. Stihl may be a bit slower but vastly more reliable. The poletrimmer attachment for my old fs85r would buy me a whole poletrimmer at most shops, meanwhile 20 years later it will be still working, unlike the cheap poletrimmer. Recently serviced and the fs was like new...

I'm not surprised. I've owned a Stihl 056 Super and compared to the 6 Husqvarnas I was running at that time the Still was a total piece of crap - very high maintenance. The Husky's would run for an hour before the gas ran out and you only had to clean the air filter once per day - the Stihl could go about 45 minutes and you had to clean the air filter every tank of gas. Plus I had to overhaul the engine twice in the season I ran it. Pure junk!

There is lots of things to consider here, chain speed, rpm, they both sharp new chains, hp, bar legnths. In a race both saw must be equal then its up to how the operator managers the saw through the log.

@MrMixedGas There are a lot of factors that play into a saw's cutting speed; what's been done to the engine, quality of the sharpening job on the chain, operator experience/technique/pressure applied, knot/no knot in the wood. A basic anecdotal test like that doesn't really tell you anything.

I've found it really difficult to de-program a stihl-head, unless he's been burnt by factory/dealer. Often seems like self-hypnosis. Honest. A bud had been influenced by some of them for a bit. Had the chance to broaden his horizons some, so now he refuses to throw money at them. When he saw how an el-cheapo 42 cc Poulan "Pro" could easily outperform his stihl 250 it was game-over. Yes, I filed both chains, and adjusted the carbs as best possible.
