Nice to see some green wood being cut. I've had waaaaaay more fire salvage over the last 10 years than green. Sucks. I've always run the West Coast Saws big dawgs on my 500 and I've cracked 2 clutch covers. Never liked those covers because a thrown chain would usually squeeze between the cover and the end of the crank forcing the bar nuts to be loosened or even removed to put the chain back on. I just put one of the beautiful milled billet WCS covers on but haven't thrown a chain yet. There is more space so a chain should be able to just be rolled back on. Now if someone would come up with a solution for the self destructing vibro-matic shrouds on these saws (661's too). What a joke. 3 days maximum and the plastic pins disintegrate. Do they even test these saws before they release them on the market?
@kodeebarber
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah every year it's more and more fire salvage. I'm not a fan of stihls stock dogs, I run aftermarket on all my saws. The 500 side cover is an absolute joke. Throw your chain more then once and the side cover is toast. I've only thrown it once with the WCS cover and theres plenty of room to slide the chain back on
@kodeebarber
2 жыл бұрын
And yes I agree the new top covers are garbage on the new saws. All the testing is in Germany where they run short bars. Not knocking them by any means they just don't have as hard of conditions as we do in western North America
@Morpheen999
2 жыл бұрын
Yes Stihl's biggest issue is they don't do Research and Development in North America.. So every time a new saw comes out it takes 2 years for more updates to fix all the Issue's that come up in NA

@@lumberjaxe8910 no problem. It's actually very easy to do. Just look at the oil adjuster and you can see the pin that limits it. The new Egan filter should be pretty decent. He resigned it to fit under the stock cover with air all around. I definitely like having the upgraded suspension on the 500. It's convenient getting it from WCS but if you don't want to pay 50 dollars for it you can get the parts from a Stihl dealer for like 15ish

@kodeebarber
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah every year it's more and more fire salvage. I'm not a fan of stihls stock dogs, I run aftermarket on all my saws. The 500 side cover is an absolute joke. Throw your chain more then once and the side cover is toast. I've only thrown it once with the WCS cover and theres plenty of room to slide the chain back on
@kodeebarber
2 жыл бұрын
And yes I agree the new top covers are garbage on the new saws. All the testing is in Germany where they run short bars. Not knocking them by any means they just don't have as hard of conditions as we do in western North America
@Morpheen999

I used a small punch but anything that's small enough to fit down there will work. Then take a hammer and very gently tap it into the case until you have an full travel with the adjustment. Hey fellas, I'm I'm Australia. I frequently run a 42' bar on my 500 and cut aussie hardwood. I have all the WCS accessories including the intake and exhaust but it's not ported. The WCS stuff adds a little extra power but the other day I cross cut a 40' stump with a 42' bar, full comp chain and an 8T sprocket. It tore through it. (I do run 98octane fuel, some say it adds power while some say it doesn't matter) Honestly boy I don't use my 066 anymore, I don't need to. 500s can turn big bars.
