Solent Rig - Boat running ledger

I wanted to share this very simple rig that I find to be particularly useful when fishing down tide and where there may be eels.
The use of 2 swivels and a sliding weight carrier reduce the chance of rig damage when an eel spins, it also provides excellent bite detection for all other species.

It certainly works that double swivel running ledger as I was having a nightmare with traces getting spun up by congers until I used it. Top useful video there mark never to old to learn .

I’m so glad it worked for you and if it saves a few traces then it is worth the addition. 👍🏻

Simplicity at it's best, the majority of the boat fishing I did was with a running ledger, just depended what I was after which dictated the hook size and trace breaking strain. To help when I'm tying my traces I use a piece of bent wire in the vice to put the hook or swivel over, don't have to worry if anything slips then !!

Another good video Mark. Most of my rigs are 4ft - 5ft long. Made in 50lb, 80lb or 100lb strengths. I usually have a a dropper half way between the hook and swivel or slightly nearer the hook not swivel. Probably the only time I use a single hook is when I fish for blonde rays in strong tides or if the congers are being a problem.

Another great informative video thanks Mark! I don't get chance to boat fish anymore but still very interesting. I think I have somewhat sorted the Ads issue from yesterday - info from Mr. Google advised clearing Laptop cookies & cache, it seems to have helped. All the best for 2021 to you & yours - stay safe & well. 👍👍

Thanks for sharing Mark I will have a go making these I must admit I've been lazy and tend to just buy ready made from shop but you made it look easy so will have a go.. stay safe . Look forward to your next vid

Well worth giving it a go Rick, that way it is easier to make repairs or adjust your rig to the conditions. Practice making will help with both of those.

Hi Mark nice vids. I use the exact same rig for hounds rays (used to be for cod but far and few between now on our coast) from a boat. Had double figure thornbacks and pb hound was 17lb 8oz..fantastic fight on light class rod and braid. Cheers mate. All the best.

I bet the 17lb hound was impressive to see and catch. 👍🏻 I still have plenty of room on my PB’s for hounds and rays so the hunt continues.

great vid again mark, can i just say beware of that knot using some mono lines,i bought some ultima memorx snood line and using the 3 and 3 i can pull it out i have even tried 5 and 5 and it pulls out as i have said in other videos of yours i have used this knot for years but i use 4 and 3 (henry gilbey) style also sakuma 80lb pulled out a 3 and 3 but 4 and 3 work perfect, just saying plus when i pull my knots i give them a lot of force

  • @seaangling

Very interesting to hear as I have never had a knot pull out but I stick to the same lines that I’m use to. I have had fish up to 174lb on the 3&3. It does sound like the slippage might well be down to the line but I wouldn’t want to call that without trying it. The bigger the line the more force I use to set the knot. Amnesia with its stretch sets well and possibly better than lines without so I wonder if the line you are experiencing slippage with is a low stretch variety? Interesting stuff. 😉👍🏻

Hi mark nice vid the zip slider has stood the test of time for years simple and good I presume you have a termalink on your main line what knot do you use for your braid 👍

Same again, I’m nothing but predictable. I used a termalink on the end of my braid for the shore caught skate. 👍🏻
