    Hi I’ve tried twice with the solder not taking. Does it make a difference what the flatware is made of?

    There are several important steps that must be followed for successful soldering. A joint that has no gaps. This means no light can be seen when looking through the join edges. Clean surfaces free from rust, dirt, fingerprints, etc. Your goal is to heat the piece, not the solder. If the piece isn't heated sufficiently the solder won't flow or it will ball up. Sufficient use of flux.

    Wash in soapy water then a soak in the pickle pot.
