    Thanks Rex, glad you enjoy the videos. I actually don't chase the big super yachts on purpose. If I happen to get onboard, that's one thing.....but I prefer chasing boats under $1m than over it where it feels like it is more within our goals and dreams 😉

    That's a great point, because if I'm the last one left in our house, you never know where life is going to take you, but I may need...an affordable boat, cuz i'm not living in a camper, and I'm not going to starve just to pay property taxes.

    Thanks Manuel! This one certainly had that all American feel to it. I don't remember seeing anything remotely similar to this growing up in Scotland. I love how it is as much a family cruiser as it is an offshore fisher. Best of both worlds.

    Thanks for the walkthrough and detail in your narrative. It prompted me to go to your channel and enjoy a few other walkthroughs. I would suggest ensuring the camera lens and/or the housing lens is cleaned before each tour. This one had an almost soft filter glow or foggy appearance to it that washed out some details. LED light placement over the camera can cause this too if it is tilted down (or not mounted back enough) and the light washes across the lens cover. Otherwise we really enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing more.

    Thanks!! My biggest challenge with this one was the weird lighting. The boat is in under cover storage. Even walking around without the camera the light isn't the best. I'm glad you are enjoying my videos and plan to share many more soon 😊

    Garnock, perhaps inadvertently your thorough review of all the upgrades illustrates just how many systems exist on a larger boat, many systems having their own own subsystems. One step I'd take, contemplating ownership of a boat like this, is to talk with several professional yacht captains to get help in identifying a well designed ship's maintenance software package. But this boat is certainly on its way to being full found. One suggestion: With boats like this, mentioning the air draft (if you have access to it) would be a useful addition. Another excellent review of an interesting boat.

  • @GarnockReviews

    @GarnockReviews

    Жыл бұрын

    Great feedback. I did look for the air draft but I didn't have it to hand. Part of the problem is that these boats are so customized over the years, you would be hard pushed to find 2 boats the same. I like your idea of having professional help when getting familiar with your new boat. That's what my family did when I was a kid and it worked well. We got to learn the processes but also build our confidence knowing if anything went wrong, professional help is onboard to begin with.

    @@GarnockReviews I wonder if this is with the Princess your family owned some years ago. Princess boats were probably never known for being 'simple' insofar as systems are concerned, right?! Savvy parents!

  • @GarnockReviews

    @GarnockReviews

    @Jack Tyler we did it with both the Moody 30 and the Princess 38. The problem for us was that they were upgraded over time by previous owners. When that happens, you can kiss goodbye to manufacturer documentation. We had to have help to basically make our own process documents and check lists etc. If money was no object, I'd have a new boat every time. Money being considered, there is far better value in used boats.

    For an '87, it looks very nice...many modern upgrades, most bells and whistles... The only caveat as I see it, is that the helm is located on the flybridge, making rough water navigation a bit of a challenge... All in all, it's a nice lookin' boat, but I'm still locked in on the Selene 47...

    Let's not overlook the aft mounted control station in the cockpit. Some captains actually prefer helming a large boat like this at the aft station when docking vs. either an inside station or flybridge. These larger powerboats are usually berthed aft side to the dock, which makes that aft control station even more desirable. These stations also much more flexibility in how the inside layout is arranged.

    Thanks! It certainly didn't feel like a boat approaching 40 years old when I was onboard. A lot of $$$ invested to make sure she has another 40 years to go. As to the Selene, if you liked that one.....you're going to love my next video. Should be live over the weekend some time. I filmed a 53ft DeFever trawler yacht that's had a ton of upgrades over the past 5 years.

    How much would someone have to earn per year to afford the yearly upkeep. The diesel fill-up alone is about $5000.00. At 15 Knott's how long would that last. As you can tell I am a novice. What is a nice starter fishing yayht. I live Sacramento area. So I would berth it probably in the Delta so I could go to sac river or go west to the bays

    You've got a lot of expense options to consider for a boat of this size. You will have the finance, insurance, marina, wear and tear maintenance, servicing, fuel, and every 2 to 3 years probably lifting it out for anti foul paint and anodes. Rough shoot from the hip figure is probably around $25k per year all in? Depends where you keep it, how often you use it, and how much you finance too. 🤔

    She is beautiful but I have to disagree with you you regarding a party boat. I’m definitely not a party pooper but I and my team have been been to too many rescues due to drinking offshore and I’d go as far as to ban alcohol on any vessels irrespective of size and I’d have the same on planes and as some have been witness to absolute buffoonery on either due to drink , one of my trainer’s drummed into me about the 12 hour rule but I took it up to 16 hours even with all that I’ve said she is still a great piece of kit. 👍🙏

    I'm not going to argue with you on this one at all. I used to know several lifeboat crew over in Scotland and the number of call outs that were drink related was horrendous. Even commercial fishing boats and cargo ships etc were bad for it. If you have alcohol onboard, at least have a designated skipper that knows what he or she is doing 😉
