SOL Escape Bivvy - Review/Test

Hello everyone! The weather is warming up and summer is on it's way and that means it's time to pack smarter and lighter when it comes to backpacking, hiking, #camping and various outdoor activities. In this video I #review and test the SOL (Survive Outdoors Longer) Escape Bivvy. On my quest to find a lighter, more packable option for a sleeping bag cover, I found this bivvy online and now it's time to put it to the test. After a brief display, going over a few of the specs and comparing it to the US modular sleep system bivvy, I head to my base camp to give the SOL Escape bivvy it's first initial test.
This lightweight bivvy is a perfect option for lightweight backpacking and can be used as an #emergencyshelter. It weighs only 8.5 ounces and is made from 100% ripstop nylon. I found it to feel very durable and the reflective material on the interior proved to keep me very warm with temperatures in the low to mid 40's (F). The waterproof material provides great protection from the elements.
If you are looking for a lightweight bivvy I hope you find this review helpful in your search. Thanks for watching! Please SUBSCRIBE to the channel (it's free)! Leave a comment below in the comment section and let me know what you think. Check out the link below for more in-depth details about the SOL Escape Bivvy. As always, Thank you for watching!
Stay safe out there!

Nice review but they are for different things. The SOL Escape bivy is for emergency scenarios and not backpacking or camping. The MSS was made as a real shelter rather then an emergency shelter. It was still a good review but people just need to keep in mind that they were designed for different purposes.

Hi Lucas H, how can you know ahead of time that when you are on a backpacking trip that you’re not going to run into an emergency situation? I’ve had the SOL Escape for years and I always take on my outdoor adventures. I believe it’s an emergency when the weather is forecast to be in the 50s but drops down into the 30s. There are no rules, restrictions, or specific times of use in the literature for this product. However, I do agree that there was no reason to compare it with the MSS.

@@keithpalmer2434 I reread my original comment and I think that I confused you a bit. I 100% agree that taking this with you outdoors is a good idea. What I was trying to say is that it is weird to compare a normal shelter system to an emergency system.

I modified the SOL Escape by cutting down the middle to about 2.5 feet from the foot. Then turned it over and use it as a top quilt. I have use it with down pants and put it on when my legs got cold and I instantly felt the warmer. The Sol Escape blocks wind and reflects my body heat. I layer up with down pants/jacket, 40 degree down top quilt, and SOL Escape bivy (as a top quilt) in my hammock. I use a full length underquilt under my hammock.
