    Evidently, in order to make a sci-fi, the term "G.dam", "hell" (and usually "Jesus") must be repeated throughout. Really odd, that _all_ of these short films do that. Why is the vocabulary so limited?

    Um... Well... Sort of. Good production value and build up of suspense, but this scenario has been done SO many times. Especially in the SciFi genre. That was so well done. You combined the environmental realism of The Martian with the chill factor of The Descent, yet with a much higher degree of subtlety int he latter. All it took for my anxiety level to go from 'maybe this isn't a good idea' to 'GET OUT GET OUT' were the words preservation mode. I would kill to see a feature length version of this.

    Despite the negative reviews from the critics who were comparing this to... what, a Spielberg film? I thought you guys did a nice job with a limited budget and a lot of enthusiasm. This little 10-minute film probably took weeks, if not months, of script prep, several days of shooting and a huge amount of post-production/editing, and it looks like maybe a handful of people took on the burdens. Yeah, sure, some of the "gotcha" comments did catch a few errors and misses, but those should be meant and taken constructively. Keep at it and improve as you go. Kudos.

    Yeah I was totally happy with the quality it was great, and with content you have to be mindful that the short film format has difficulties. I found this one entertaining, but the only problem I have, which is true of many movies, even full budget full length, is that they don't make believable characters. There's no way this chump would go in to a dark unmapped cavern without even proper lighting when he's just found out his last robot was just destroyed by an ugly green bug eyed monster. He'd report in at the very least before going in.

    Loved the premise, it makes a good "short." Leaves the audience with the unsettled feeling, yet the captivation is enough for desire for more shorts (continuing a series.) I hope this is something you build upon with more quick stories. Keep up the great work, even if you don't continue this particular story. If you do continue it: make about 5 more parts (shorts) that seem to be different, while making a full movie... those shorts make small parts within. Have fun and good luck

    I have to say i had my doubts regarding this short, But i was pleasantly entertained as well as surprised of the quality of effects as well as the acting in this short. You not only captured what mars may possibly look like with great detail but made a believable mission with your story. I would imagine you have your sights set on a career in Hollywood however if you dont you should. This short was better than all the "B" rated films ever created and even better than some of the main line big budget SciFi films. Keep up the great work we un-uncreative minded people need stuff to watch that is not only entertaining and edge of the seat invigorating but believable as well. Thanks for uploading i will be looking forward to your next installment of Mars and what creatures in craters it may hold.

    Nice short! Really impressive backgrounds, a solid Mars feeling! Ok the clouds perhaps not, but that is minor and could have been edited out with a larger budget. I don't get how the 2nd rover could get that far into a part of the cave where the human had to climb, depending on minute wheels, but let's be nice and assume the rover took a flatter detour :)

    A very good job on the intro, the transition, and accompanying graphics. The viewer gets carried into the final scenes, and the visuals make it very scary. So much so that one wonders why the protagonists are doing this. The ending is very much foreshadowed by the ending of the first robot, which makes one wonder, again, why they are doing this? We know what is going to happen, but we watch because it can't possibly happen again, can it? I mean, they must have learned something. But, nope. Big letdown. All this advanced civilization eaten by a lizard. Twice. "Hey, Gomer, why don't we go to Mars, Ayup ayup." Good computer graphics. Very little thought about the plot. There should be a point to doing what you are doing. If the viewer is left with a big "HUH?" maybe revisit the whole scenario. It was interesting to look at.

    This is what frustrates me too although it happens in lots of movies including full budget. It's almost like they plan to destroy the heroic content of the movie. He dead cert knew a green bug eyed monster just took out his rover so he decides to go in without even a proper torch or even checking in with base on his co-ordinates and findings and then when he gets in there he acts all indignant with the rover as if he never found out there were bug eyed monsters about. You could tolerate a lot lower quality on acting and effects if only there was decent direction and story. At the end of the day, for all the effort on quality, it just doesn't make sense. It's stupid.

That makes the first law state that a robot must protect a single human being, as long as that does not conflict with that zeroth law. It's the old lesson about the Koboyashi Maru. One versus many. Maybe there was a reason R.E.X. felt the sacrifice of one man justifiable. Maybe the creature is too dangerous for the humans to find at this point. Maybe I'm overthinking it, too.

    Nice job guys! Good story! For those who are critiquing the film for the 'absurd' notion that a lone astronaut would not go into a 'scary' cave I would ask; Would you have been satisfied if he just turned around, went back to his ship and left? Would that not have been a waste of your time. Life is boring - unless you have brave souls to go where others fear to, we'd have no entertainment!

    This was incredible. Really, in-credible. As in, a normal human would not go into a dark crevice knowing what James knew from the wreckage of DOR and the footage of the attacker. What would be very credible is James sending a command from his computer to REX making it come to his location. Or sending in REX and live streaming its sight to confirm suspicions. This is a frustrating, painful horror movie character cliche. Alternatively, after the man says "...take a nasty fall?" REX goes into the crevice on its own. James then tries to summon REX, but an ERROR message appears. Annoyed, James follows, never seeing what DOR saw. Then the rest of the film plays. Suspense is still built up by the audience seeing what happened to DOR at the beginning while knowing James doesn't know (an element of tragic irony from classical tragedies, such as Othello, where the audience knows the treachery of Iago while Othello does not), and so it makes sense why he would go into the crevice. The ending is satisfying (satisfying the plot/answering the question that began/was posed at the beginning) instead of frustrating.

    For positive feedback: The Mars setting, cinematography and directing, costume and sound design, acting, and props were beautifully done and I would even say perfect. (Although the rover is quite tiny, that is credible because one can easily imagine smaller, personal rovers in a future where humans walk on Mars.) I am a Mars fan (have had a Mars desktop background for... dunno how long) and I think this set/footage/cgi captures the essence and feel of Mars perfectly.

  • @mugster610

    @mugster610

    You self-contradict. James doesn't know exactly what happened to DOR but he knew enough to sense imminent albeit inexplicable danger therefore there's no justifying his entering a Daryl crevice when he clearly saw that "something" unknown but potentially dangerous was directly responsible for DOR's demise and not a nasty fall. This type of cliche suspense is why the old school horror movie genre outlived it's usefulness. Running from a murderer and leaving the safety of a crowded place to enter a dark alley can only be done so many times before it wears thin, be it on Mars or on Earth. The story was weak, everything else was good.
