More About "Ikarus":
Teenage scavengers, Queen and her older brother, Birdie, are on their usual hustle of hunting down cargo drones. However, unbeknownst to Birdie, Queen has navigated the pair onto new paths, with the hopes of landing the ultimate payload, Nano-biotics. Queen’s plans go awry when her home-made honing device accidentally sounds, attracting unwanted attention. The siblings narrowly escape capture but, during the chaos, Birdie is shot in the stomach. With Birdie unconscious and consumed by a high fever, Queen must now attempt to hunt these very Nano-biotics on her own, if she’s to save her brother’s life.

This is the strangest thing I have found about ALL films or TV shows. When the leading Det. or someone equivalent enters the interview room, they always carry their sidearm. That NEVER HAPPENS. In fact, you need to check in your sidearm as soon as you enter the building. Watch or rewatch some films or TV shows and look for it. It's insanity to think this really happens.

It is the hierarchy of needs thing. Those with their basic needs met can't relate to those who don't. This is why there are wars and such. The elites only care about esteem, saving face, glory, and such. And that elevation can come at the cost of the fall of others. In many minds, there can't be winners without losers. People today just don't realize just how corrosive to society, pride is. Wise people, in the past, knew.

Very well done. The CGI was superb. Though it flows more like a trailer or teaser for a larger movie. There is certainly the source material for a bigger project. The three most claring inconsistencies are the prisoner being left armed with a knife, the interrogator taking her sidearm into the interrogation room and the inappropriate crying when she finds the bionanites followed by the nonchalant stroll away from the crash scene when she should be frantically trying to get away as fast as possible to avoid capture and save her brother.

My only complaint would be the lighting during the short fight scene after being discovered by the rusty old plane. It was so dark and every character is in dark clothes, I couldn't make out what was happening. The first Batman movie had the same problem. I couldn't see the fight scenes. It sounded like a pretty impressive fight was happening, but I quietly hoped they didn't invest too much in fight choreography because I couldn't see any of it.

Nicely done! 👍 Three comments though: She runs around with a backpack with the weapon. When she assembles it, she struggles under the weight. Then disassembles it and easily runs around with it again. That weapon can change its weight massively! :) The hooded figure in the interrogation room was too obviously not shown, and we haven't heard a sound. In a place where you are supposed to be searched and stripped. Twenty seconds into the film, and it was already obvious that the figure will not be what the presented assumption is. Officers do not bring weapons into interrogation rooms. All in all, I see a great potential in this team, you just need to hone your script a bit.

Officers on our Earth generally don't bring weapons into interrogation rooms; but we don't know for sure this is our Earth. Most likely it is, but we're shown that the date is 2220 at one point and we don't know where this takes place. Maybe the rules are different? But I agree that assuming that you are interrogating somebody without bothering to check who they are is darned lazy. And I agree that her running around with a backpack of random objects and showing no signs of their weight was a bit off. Of course the weapon was very lopsided when put together so maybe that explains it.

I agree, overall it was a good clip. I liked it. One little thing though that irritates me every time i see it in movies or clips like this. After entering the craft after bringing it down, she goes inside and scans the crates. She identifies the crate, opens it, and realizes she finally got what she wanted...THEN...she putts around examining the contents, wasting time, you could predict exactly what was going to happen. Who does that? Get what you came for and run!, you know someone is not far away and you don't want to be there when they arrive.

Lighting, or lack, thereof, sometimes employed for technical reasons, eg, budget didn't run to convincing prosthetics, make up, clothing, weaponry, machinery, architecture, etc, or because, as in the case of cosmic horror, the intention is to hint, rather than fully reveal, so being less able to be discerned draws less criticism. Considering many shorts are on a punishing budget, I find this understandable, so forgive them, but in big budget films it actually enrages me, as it's usually lazy technique and nothing else.

Dystopias have conflict by their very nature, and conflict is the heart of drama. Utopias are boring precisely because everyone is happy. You literally cannot tell a good story in a utopia, except by removing the utopic aspect for at least one character.

Correct my friend...in most societies there is a concerted effort by right wing politicians to subvert democratic norms. Look at the GOP in the states and the tories in the uk. Both supporting/not hampering Putin in Ukraine...why? Because he is the biggest fascist available at the moment...ex KGB fascist...WTF is happening to the world???

There was alot of information that transferred in 19min., but they did a good job getting it out. I admit I had to stay glued watching leaving for a minute or two meant watching it over. Looks like a bleak future for some willing to risk their lives, while others enjoy a better program, only the ambitious get to move up or the dead become free. Where this Short ends is where a Movie starts filling in the background and Story of the Characters I certainly enjoyed it and it held my attention...

I enjoyed it for the most part. Some minor disconnects. The most glaring is the one where she is hefting that disasembled weapon on her back and moving around without any issues. However, after she assembles it, it almost seems to heavy for her, in particular after her first shot. The other is being brought into a detention/interrogation center and she was not searched and had a knife? Let alone the interrogator bringing a gun into the room?

Maybe it's about leverage and balance. Like you can hold something a easier and longer with your arm bent and the object close to your body than you can with your arm extended out. But for me it was having to keep the hood on during the interrogation for the obvious big reveal, and they were worried about the gadget making noise but they were doing all that yelling which was at least twice as loud as the gadget. But didn't get in the way of the movie overall.

@@gregorylagrange You missed her taking the first shot then, it threw her at least a few feet backwards. I would have believed the second shot if she had gone and dug out at least a rudimentary stand of some sort as her shoulder is probably a bit bruised and battered after the backfire from the first shot.

This is techinal question, but does someone know what is happening in the audio in the scene beginning around 3:50: The ambiet noise is bumping up and down like there was sort of expander or noise gate doing it. Is It part some KZread's automated processes or does it happen also in the offline master version of the movie?

That was, as a number of others have written, an excellent and enthralling trailer to what feels like a more encompassing story. As to a couple of the 'disconnects' that others have pointed out; I agree that the prevailing authority has such little regard for "the commoners" (as the interrogator put it toward the end) that they didn't bother to check the one being interrogated for weapons, and, in the same spirit, didn't see any reason to bother with (current-day) protocols of not carrying a weapon into an interrogation room. I got the impression that that was meant to convey a certain arrogance, noting that the interrogator avoided looking at the one being interrogated while from the outset sporting a weapon and neatly positioning the torture-cum-compliance device on the table. As far as the seeming disconnect with regard to the disassembled weapon being carried by the sister sibling which she indeed did carry with little sign of stress while on her back but was taxed by its weight when fully assembled and held in her arms, I didn't find that contradictory. I know from personal experience that, if one has a strong back, then it's far easier to carry weight on your back than it is in your arms. Different muscles being used; different weight distribution. I wish I could explain what I mean better but it's late and I'm tired and thanks so much for the short film. It was horrifying as a glimpse into a possible future, but very well done.
