This device is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite synthesizers, it's quirky, organic and easy to use, it sounds GREAT, and it's fun as HELL to use.

Softpop SP2 is a radical subtractive synth under the influence of unconventional digital control. It’s a rare beast that excels at both melody and noise in equal measure, ranging from bassline bangers, angelic chord progressions, distorted beats, and water droplets.
Softpop’s patchbay is eurorack compatible, with the additional capability of processing inbound audio through the filter and VCA.

Oh man, a M8 showed up near the end. What do I want? Eurorack compatible form factor… maybe? It has its own housing and PSU so I guess it is okay. I have the V1. The little Arduino-style connectors are cute.
Yo - thanks for making this . Some really good insight into this strange and wonderful little synth . Any plans on doing a video walkthrough of the scales modes as well as using midi ;as those parts are still a bit shaky / not immediately apparent ? Thanks in advance

Interesting opening shot. Lots of value levels - Gus van Zandt deadpan realism vs David Fincher lighting. Quite a juxtaposition against the gorgeous chiaroscuro.
I want more sweet delicious bass... Thanks for the video! Would love to see a tutorial on how to mount this into a Eurorack case, I heard it can be done but I'm not super clear on how..

there's a file on the bastl GIThub, but you'd have to either 3d print the pieces or have a fab house make them... but the manual says there's a euro header if you take off the back panel!

the new softpop is a completely new beast, it shares a lot of the character of the original, but the sequencer and patchbay, as well as many aspects of the interface have been completely re-worked, I own both and I feel the SP2 is a huge improvement.
The section woth the m8 hooked up,and PO, were you using the m8 thru midi to the softpop spll? I was trying an M8 softpop spll combination last night and struggling

well there are cool runes ;) and i don't suppose to know what casper and bastl were EXACTLY thinking, but i do like devices that go minimal on labeling, it really encourages you to DEEPLY know your instrument, not so different from a guitar, or piano, which feature no labels haha i guess what i'm saying is that in this case, the functions are intuitive, and by playing with them for even a moment you can discover what they do, or reference the back panel which is VERY thorough on signal flow and function!

they are also labeled beneath the faders on the front-side panel. So the labels are there when you need them but not front and center for all the reasons Wes just outlined.
M8 tracker is best 303 sequencer ! 😅
