    Great video. I just turned 60 and this is something I was trying to figure out. I will be in the Philippines before I turn 62 and will be getting married and hopefully have kids so this will be a massive help when I get their. You’ve got a great channel here and I will be watching the rest of your videos. Thanks again.

    Late to the party here. Any idea about applying for Medicare if you live in the Philippines. Understand that it's NOT available outside the US, but was thinking about the impacts if someone headed back stateside to visit relatives, remember why we hate winter, etc. Seems silly to have to buy a US insurance policy just to visit. Or worst case, decided that expat living wasn't everything it's cracked up to be, and wanted to relocate back to the U.S.

    Hello @SleepyJay 🙂the following is from Marty... You are right that Medicare is not available here. There are expat plans you can get that will cover you in the US if you travel there. You may want to look at Steve Johnson's channel - The Philippine Info Channel. He talks about it abundantly and can provide sources to explore. There are even short-term policies for visits. Everyone here will consistently tell this - do not under any circumstance come here uninsured. This is repeated often on the many channels but it bears repeating. If something catastrophic happens and you do not have cash on hand to pay all expenses upfront you will not be treated. Please do not gamble with that.

    For any expat that's coming here and thinking of making his future wife a USA citizen, YOU MUST, way before you file for any visa application, have the filipina get a certificate of marriage clearance 1st that states she is able to marry. Without one, you can not get married and will never get a visa for her, and all the money you have paid to immigration for applications is lost, No Refund. Divorce is not an option in PH, you can possibly get an annulment, but that can cost you thousands and about a year or two in courts. Also, VA healthcare is non-existent here unless you have a service connected disability. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Same with Medicare, Non-existent here as nobody takes it. Guam is the closest US territory for VA healthcare but now you have to fly there, book hotel, road transportation and register to see a doctor. You could be dead by the time you get to see a doctor. As to SSA retirement, if you are definitely coming here to live prior to your 65th bday, and don't want Medicare part B, make sure you change your address to a Philippines address 4-5 months prior to your 65th bday, or you will be auto enrolled and paying $164 each month, starting 3 months prior to your bday, until you cancel and you can not get these payments back. Suggestion is, take that $164 and put it into a savings in case you need to pay a significant hospital bill in the future. We all get older, and Shxx happens. SSA in Manila is by far the most aggravating place to communicate with. Even worse than the 45 min wait in the USA. You can only call them on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8am-11am. I've tried calling them 50+ times and have always been disconnected because they do not have a system that puts you in a call line waiting. It just hangs up when the number is busy. Also, when you email them, you get an email notification saying they will get back to you within 20 business days. They don't!! Best to make online appointments and get your business done in person. Do your homework on the Philippines before you come. Ask lots of questions prior because when you come here, you are going to find lots of the vlogs you watched telling you everything is so great, you can live here for $800, etc. Maybe some can but very rare. You will be depressed when reality hits and find you might go broke here. I'm not saying stay home, just make sure the Philippines is the place for you. Good luck

    Hello @Roy Exploring The Philippine's ... First of all, thank you so much for your valuable input. I'm not retirement age yet, so all of this is very educational for me, and very helpful in preparing in advance of my eventual retirement age. Marty has a lot of personal experience and very knowledgeable as well; I emailed your comments to him and I'm sure he will agree with most if not all of your commentary. Secondly, thank you SO much for suffering through this video. It was my 1st livestream and the quality is horrible. So thank you for watching through it and caring enough to extend your knowledge. Happy New Year and God Bless you! 😀

    Hi G5, Marty thank you for the time spent putting together this video. Good and important information covered. Thanks for drilling down on the children SS benefit. This information is very difficult to find out on the SS site, its almost as they are trying to keep it a secret. I've researched this a lot and it can make a big difference in peoples decisions on what age to retire and what quality of life you will be able to achieve.

    Hello @Patrick F ... thanks for your kind response. I'm so glad it was helpful. I still have a LOT to learn myself regarding social security. I sent your comment to Marty, this is his reply. "I doubt it's deliberate. Never underestimate the general apathy and laziness of government employees. You're welcome" So yeah, thanks again. stay tuned, I am working on new stuff and expect to start publishing again in February. 😀

    Hello @Oh No... since I am also not retirement age, I'm not really up on this sort of information. I will say though that from own personal experience, I strongly recommend keeping a permanent U.S. address and a U.S. based bank account. Do you already have a spot in mind here in the Philippines?

    very nice @@darrenthomson6315, well, if you don't mind some advice, I would hold off on deciding the location until you meet and marry your Filipina. That is, if that's your plan. If not, then of course do your thing. But if you do plan on marrying a Filipina, you will want to be in some proximity to her family. They can be a tremendous infrastructure to her and ultimately you and your family. Again, if that is your ultimate plan. But that's just me... we all walk out our own path. 😀peace and blessings!

    Hello @@Quesera267 ... it is my understanding that health insurance may/might possibly cover you when traveling/living abroad, but there is no direct connection between the insurance carrier and the healthcare provider outside the U.S. You would have to pay upfront and then request reimbursement from your insurance carrier. I would also suggest that there's really no need to pay exorbitant premiums for health insurance in the U.S., because healthcare in the Philippines is low cost compared to the U.S.

    how long does a filling need to be in the states to obtain a residency?

  • @G5Philippines

    @G5Philippines

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello @barry highfield ... very good question. I'm not sure the length of time is as important as is the documentation. When we bring our Filipina wife to the U.S., she can obtain her working social security card/number. With her SS number, I began filing our taxes as married, filing jointly. This got her into the system. Later on, we accomplished her U.S. citizenship, but I do not believe that is necessary. (I may be wrong, so please verify this via the SSA.gov website) So again, I do not know if there are requirements for length of residency in the U.S., but I do not think she can obtain a SS number if she does not live in the U.S. at least long enough to acquire it???

    Hello @My Mom's Old Land Cruiser ... I reached out to Marty on your questions, and here's his response... Nothing. If he is already getting the deposits they will continue. If he is applying here in the Ph, however, that's another matter. The two agencies, the VA and the Social Security Administration are each different. The VA has its own location near the embassy in Manila. SSDI requires a mountain of documentation to prove. If by VA benefits he means a pension he can apply at the VA in Manila. Feel free to let him connect with me. tarawaveteran@gmail.com Those are both complicated applications here.
