Remove the limit on how much of your income is subject to the Social Security tax and do away with income taxes on Social Security benefits. We get taxed to pay for the Social Security program and then we get taxed on the money we can manage to get back. Most of us will never receive benefits equal to the amount of money we pay into the system because we'll die of a heart attack or some type of cancer before we can claim benefits at "full retirement age". Furthermore, we have people receiving benefits who did not contribute and never will contribute a single penny in SSA tax or otherwise.

You have no idea. My sister had a brain injury and was denied SS Disability. She was barely functional. When I found out I had to tell her the reality. You can be disabled, in a wheelchair and quadriplegic and be denied. The steps are to be denied 100% of the time, hire a lawyer and have a judge review your case with medical records and then you get disability. Now your lawyer gets a percentage of any money you get and the legal system is inundated by review requests. I had a similar experience. The good news is that when I recovered from my disability they have a one year trial period for working so if you can't actually manage a job you simply go back to SS again. Anyway, once my sister knew what to do she had a friend help her gather her medical records and help her and she received it. She did have to wait months but she was living with no money for years. My sister was Vice President of UNiversal Animation a few years before her injury that disabled her. She worked around the clock and her life was her job. So she was brilliant before her brain injury.

They’re not addressing all the problems, this is just the tip of the one main problem. Social security is comprised into many programs, we have to manage state program known as SSI this is large part of population consuming our office processing times. How about waiting over 3 hours in person and getting a social security person who is very angry seems to hate his job, tell you to call while giving you the number and then waiting forever on the phone. Social Security is a mess and bankrupt to boot. Corruption in government has destroyed the country period but keep talking and pretending to do something for your insane salary you all do not deserve.

When on social security, the recipient pays for medical insurance and prescriptions. Out of the check. Medicare isn't free. The government is giving the money to many other people who aren't seniors. Do they take Medicaid, Welfare, and food stamps out of the social security fund? I hope not. The customer service can be done by people who are not trying to waste money. Why are so many people who can still work getting social security payments?

My daughter with a disability was told there was she was overpaid thousands in 2018. After years of being ignored, and inundated with letters changing amounts, and threats to stop future payments, we are finally scheduled to appeal. It has only taken 6 years of having my requests and waivers to appeal my daughter's overpayment ignored. Trump's appointment of Social Security administrator, Andrew Saul his old college buddy and Garment industry executive was put there to make SSA a dysfunctional system until he was finally terminated under Biden. I think Commissioner O'Malley is being kind saying people waiting 30 minutes, try 40 to 50 minutes and then being hung up on after that!

SS could be using AI chat bots and not require additional people. Use chat and email AI that responds as a human and funnels approvals to humans to supervise the AIs. Also, on the website you can't change your tax withdrawal amounts. I simply assumed I could change that online but no. They want me to call the office and setup an appointment just to change withdrawal for taxes. This causes an issue with one more phone call and the time involved for a staff person to meet with me in an office. This could be fixed overnight for almost nothing.

Stop giving social security to foster care and other people who haven't contributed, and are not retired. If social security was only given to retirees, as designed, it would not be going broke. Illegals are also getting social security money. They are wasting the money and are spending more on the workers than necessary. The workers are getting more than the seniors. The seniors can do the job, they won't waste the money.

OASDI: old age, survivor, disability insurance. Yes, you get it as retirement if you live long enough. It also helps you if you get injured prior to old age and can’t work anymore. It also provides a cash benefit to your minor children and/or spouse/former spouse if you die early, or a cash benefit for your disabled child. Even with all those programs there are still tons of people that pay into it and never get to draw back out.
