SOB Hill Trail - Summit County Colorado

Off-road Guidebooks:
Charles Wells Colorado Book (the best): amzn.to/3CJLir2
Charles Wells Moab Book: amzn.to/3R6RSfu
This is the most challenging trail in Summit County, Colorado. We started off on Middle Fork Swan River and then hit the SOB Hill trail which took us to Georgia pass. The hill was actually more difficult than expected. Todd is driving his Ford F-150 and Alec is in his Jeep JT Rubicon Diesel Gladiator.

    Awesome footage!! We filmed a guide on North Fork to Middle Fork (to be edited). I wanted to hit SOB hill but we were short on time and the xterra was having issues. I was hoping to come back, but instead, I’ll send them to this video when we get to the SOB turnoff. I had never done it so we didn’t know what to expect, but this video is great!

    Thanks buddy! I didn’t tell you but I ended up crashing my Skydio into a lake! I had it tracking me and the family on the wave runner for a couple days and got some amazing footage. Then the next day I was flying it with the beacon and it was tracking great and then it just splashed into the lake and was gone! So I bought the DJI Mini 3 pro. I was so upset

    I don’t know man all I can think about is the water and reflection and it couldn’t sense it’s distance to ground. I was unhappy with Skydio response as well and as you know they don’t offer Skydio care for the 2, only the 2+. I still think it’s an awesome drone for what it is but I’m liking the DJI Mini 3 pro. It’s tracking and obstacle avoidance isn’t as good but what it lacks there it makes up for with the larger sensor and image quality.

    The CVs I use are only motorcraft and are only 1 year old right now. I do all the work myself on that truck and check it nonstop for problems. It's on trails every week. Any part looking bad gets replaced asap. But yes in a perfect world its bad to hop then again this is Colorado and it's super rocky. If a CV breaks I carry 70 lbs of tools and knowledge to do a trail fix and get back to pavement in 2wd. The rear is the 9.75 differential with 34 spline axles. It's stronger than a Dana 60. The front is a 8.8 differential with 28 spline axles they are good to 500hp. The CVs have held up very well and are extremely stout. I also always try to hit all obstacles straight on where they are the strongest.

  • @Colorado4x4

    @Colorado4x4

    Жыл бұрын

    Amen. And that hopping was minor compared to what I’ve seen on slickrock where the tire lands back down and actually grabs traction. When the tire fell it wasn’t really grabbing traction because it was so loose and rocky. I wasn’t concerned. To me, being prepared is the biggest thing. Shit is going to happen anywhere, anytime. The only thing I don’t have in my rig is a welder so we’re good to go 🤘

  • @Colorado4x4

    @Colorado4x4

    Жыл бұрын

    When I’ve broken axle shafts it has always been on real grabby rock or with an insane amount of wheel spin. Slipping off a ledge where you’re throttling out trying to climb and then the rig slides down to the bottom and then snap. Or in Moab where you get to really hopping and are leaning on that skinny pedal and the tire is slightly bouncing and then there is a change in the position of the rig and then the weight falls on that fast spinning tire and it grabs traction.
