I was super new to soap making so I wasn’t selling it or anything.) and that came out amazing! I’ve seen people dissolve the salt in the lye water but I’ve never seen anyone actually pour salt into the batter! I want to try this and make another batch of the soleseife and compare them now!

You made a great soap, of course with that concentration it can be used in less time and that would be the only benefit, but if that soap was left to sit for a longer time, like two months or more, not only would it be a quick soap to use, but it would be the soap with a wonderful feeling

I pair my salt bars with an inexpensive soap sack. I think the salt, no matter how fine is too scratchy. I also think salt bars are amazing and I can't get enough of them. I put in individual cavity molds and a pvc round mold and cut it after a couple of hours or four, or five... Five was way too long although it didn't crumble but did give me a wonky cut.

I love your videos but have a comment on this one. I primarily make salt bars - do lots of swirls and colouring (drop swirls, hanger swirls, multi colours) and I use a 5 oil blend with a large superfat. I always use sea salt - no issues with stinging on small cuts ever - Himalayan pink is much too hard for a body soap salt bar but great for a foot soap. I use about 30% of my total weight of soap in salt. I leave it as CPOP for 2 hours before cutting. I do live in a dry climate so have no issues with sweating and my salt bars are my biggest seller with many repeat customers. I would not use table salt ever and suspect that is where stinging would come into it. I have specialized in salt bars for about 6 years. They are my favourite soaps to make! Thanks for sharing!!

I've been making and selling exclusively salt soaps for years now. I think it may be your recipe. My bars use essential oils and clays to colour and the batter stays workable for a good 20 to 40 mins (unless I get a little over vigorous with the blender lol) plus and I've never had it gel. As long as I cut within 2 hours they are perfect. Cure time is 2 weeks for my recipe and they are perfect ready to ship. I only use oils though, no milk so maybe it heated your batter too much causing gel. I've never had a bar soft in the middle on cutting. It's always fun to try something new! I can't get enough of salt bars personally and neither can my customers lol. Many with sensitive skin have said its the only soap they can use.

I luv that u used Snow Whit! I’ve been telling everyone that Snow White works better than TD and u have a shimmer. However, the salt soap ur cutting was squishy because it was going through gel phase. When gel phase is done it will be rock hard that’s why u should cut them during gel phase. There is a lot about soap making that ppl over complicate to sell books and most of that info is wrong!!! it’s perfectly fine to use a 50/50 lye solution. U can mix ur batter with a whisk. Temperatures do not make a difference. I know a lot of ppl who do the heat transfer method. They use there fresh lye water to melt there butters and hard oils. Ur temperature couldn’t be further apart than that! And ppl get mad when they see ppl do this cause they read in a book with no scientific evidence to back up what the person was saying. But, if it’s in a book it must be correct. No it was wrong. I don’t need a whole other recipe for soap frosting. M. U don’t need to use T.D that is really bad for female reproductive organs. I can use white mica. My favorite is Snow White from MadMicas and it gets my soap milk white. Curing, ok scientifically speaking u do not need to cure for 4-6 weeks. Ur not even “ curing them” I don’t know who started using that term “soap curing” it’s ridiculous cause ur not aging for it to impact. The soap is already made after 48 hrs the symphonic process is done finished completely gone! THERE IS NO MORE LYE, LYE HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED TO SOAP DURING A CHEMICAL PROCESS ITS DONE! Lol lol ppl read this in a book that was written on how to make soap and ya I guess u can do it like that, but it’s over complicating things that don’t need to be complicated and most of this information was wrong. Speaking on a scientific level. It doesn’t matter if it’s hot process or cold process ur soap is completely changed to soap in 48hrs! 100% soap. I heard a big time KZreadr tell ppl that soap contains 3% to 1% lye in it between 4-6 weeks so it’s better to wait the 6-8 weeks is how long it takes for the lye to turn into soap. I honestly could not believe what she just said. None of that is true at all. When we do hot process u cook it so u speed up the process and u force gel phase and u are evaporating the water by doing this they also speed up saponification. When the soap is done it’s 100% soap and u can use that soap 2 days after it’s made. I take that exact same recipe u can force gel which no doubt speeds up saponification, but with cold process it takes 24-48 to be 100% safe cause that how long it takes for the saponification process to be complete. This soap after 2 more days I would ph test the batch as I do with all of them. The only reason they “ cure” is so that the excess water evaporates. The bar goes through 0 changes after the saponification process is complete. I know ppl who ship after 10-14 days. I do after 21 days. Mine are always rock hard real fast cause I use a lot of sodium lactate which is liquid salt. I’m so glad I got to share that one . lol

I make my own face coconut bars with Retinol since the company I used to purchase them from discontinued their bars. My coconut oil is completely clear, but mine is also completely unrefined. My bars are about the same size as Katie's and mine last A MONTH and this is in the shower. I do add a splash of sodium lactate to mine, I don't superfat mine. I also don't add any kind of fragrance. I don't care about the cost of the oil, I care about the ability to make suds and how it feels on my skin and how long the bar lasts. 100% coconut oil soap is absolutely amazing, it does everything I want in a bar soap. Suds, doesn't disintegrate, feels great, cleans without completely stripping and lasts a really long time. I have a 42 ounce mold, it's just over 11 inches long and this makes enough bars for 9 months or there about. I don't measure my bars, I just cut them as they're for me.

I've been on a salt soap kick lately! 😂 I use 90% coconut oil, but now, after seeing your incredible lather, I'm going to try it your way! 😊 I also now pour into individual molds, because I've tried the bar cutting thing in the past... One thing I find interesting, on a chemical level, is how does your batch absorb SOOO MUCH liquid from the fragrance oil? I use EO's, much less volume ...

I made a double batch of salt bars? For my 3 and 4th batch. I didn't let the bottom layer harden enough on the 1st loaf before adding in a layer of soap, but they still turned out okay. I just put some on the bottom and on the top. Not all over. I was planning on making another double batch today, but with no glitter and different colorant. Hopefully, this time, it turns out perfectly. This time, I want to try a swirl design. I was also thinking of maybe a lay of coffee at the bottom, so this time it's actually brown.

Hi Katy, if one uses the pink Himalayan salt, does that speckle a lot if you don’t dissolve it first? Or just a little? Also, if one uses the regular oils (Olive oil, Shea butter, Cocoa butter, etc) does it take longer to set, than if you just use coconut butter? Thanks…

Microscopically, salt is not very healthy for the skin, as it causes small injuries to it, and frequent use is not recommended (My beautician side spoke louder than the soap maker in this comment 😁). But I was so curious about how it behaved when used, how do you feel?... and consequently about the amount of salt used. Could you tell me the percentage?

when you filter out unincorporated lye from your solution, do you then have to redissolve that and add it back or is it just like, completely fine to have less lye in the batch?

The alternatives are harsher. You have palm kernel oil, hydrogenated palm kernel oil flakes (not to be confused with its more natural form), and babassu oil. All are cleansing oils in soaps (I listed from most gentle in my opinion) but you might be paying a pretty penny for the babassu.

@@sarahshanaver2800 you're welcome. If you do try to make a soap, something similar to Katie's normal recipe, don't go higher than maybe 20% until you get a feel for what you like. Alternatively, you can make a true castile soap (100 % olive oil) or a bastile ( bastardized castile, which is not all olive oil but still pretty gentle). Have a good day.
