even though you need zhuyin or pinyin At First its a crutch. Learn your hanzi as soon as you can!

completely agree!

1. pinyin sounds are only similar to and are often not at all like latin letters sounds! its not just q and x... 2. zhuyin is better for learning! 3. pleco lets you choose pinyin or zhuyin or both. Use zhuyin you will be glad!

agree with that! although I prefer pinyin since most of the learning materials I use have pinyin, not zhuyin!

pinyin makes more sense if you see it as international X is from Russian Z is like German J is from French though even these are only near approximations.

that could be hard if you don't know other languages! but if you do know other languages, it makes sense to compare it if the pronunciation is more closely related!

Do you have a native speaker or teacher correcting your pronunciation? I think pronunciation is the hardest thing, because it's hard to judge myself. Chinese colleagues don't do this, because they say my chinese is perfect - even if they don't understand me.

yeah... thats a struggle with native speaking friends/colleagues! because we're learning and they want to encourage us, even beginner level Chinese is perfect! my bf is a native speaker and helps me with my pronunciation!

"any chem majors out there" someones sourcing, sourcing for a diction...
