So What's the Next Big Solar Project?

Ғылым және технология

I've talked a little bit about my next "upcoming project" and it seems like it's time I should share what that project is.

Good stuff. Sounds like you’ve got a full spring ahead of you with building that coop also.

I would like to see the coop build, as much as you are willing to share. Gavin did a nice job with his solar roof.

Yeah Gavin’s roof gave me the idea. We’ll see what I end up filming. Maybe just progress reports or something. Not sure yet.

Hey Adam, this sounds like an exciting project. Looking forward to those videos. Can't wait to see which inverter you're going to be testing out. Solar is so addictive :)

Adam, I was laughing hard as I was watching this video. It seems your journey in solar is similar to mine and I was thinking about how my projects go too. Solar projects for some reason never seem to be completed. There's always something more I want to do, something more I want to add. I was impressed with how you went from needing to rebuild the roof on your chicken coop, to "let's put more panels on the roof", to "now we'll need another charge controller", to "lets get an all in one inverter that has the charge controller already built in". That's a master class in justifying more stuff. lol. As you were talking. I was even thinking about asking if you're ready to sell your Victron inverters, because my Victron system is still on 24V and I certainly need to upgrade to 48V. I mean it's only been in service for a year. ;-)) Keep up the good work Adam!

Thanks Bruce! Yeah it never ends. I was more impressed that I was able to convince my wife with that thinking path as well… 🤣 No plans on getting rid of the Victron system. Why get rid of a good thing? I would have to find some system that really blows my socks off in order to make that change.

I guess you liked my idea! Where was my shout out. Run an AC couple like the one you saw on my recent episodes. AC coupled can be run further than DC. For the coop.

Hehe, this has been in the works for months, just takes a lot of time to get things lined up. The AC couple is a good idea and I might do that on a different building later. The DC helps “justify” the test wall with the Mrs. 😁

I use a additional Fronius Inverter, that integrates well with the Victron System. And the Victron Inverters provide the grid for the Fronius PV-AC-Inverter. You just need to add a AC-PV-Assistant, so that the Inverters increase the frequency, once the batteries are full....or just use the ESS-Assistant, if you use it grid-parallel.

Thanks! I've heard a lot about the Fronius and it really does sound like something I need to try out. Maybe I'll test that out on another outbuilding project.

You have to get those panels off the ground. DC voltage is very dangerous, if you kids get hooked up you will wish you had them on an earthed frame. Safety first!!!

  • @AdamDeLay07

Thanks! The frames have an earth connection.

@@AdamDeLay07 just make sure the cables and plus are not accessible. An earth means nothing if someone becomes part of the circuit. Snow and rain can make things very dangerous. A frame with specific orientation and angle is cheap to build. I see a lot of this in North America (Arrays directly on ground), you guys have cheap access to everything. Not sure why things are underdone 🤔

@@OrganicPower-Australia I would imagine there's a lot of reasons people might come up with. "It's just temporary" or "testing things out" are probably a couple. Hard to say.
