So, What Is Narcissistic Abuse, After All? (with Kelly Brogan, MD)

I was the first to describe narcissistic abuse. Decades later, the field has been abducted by self-enriching, self-styled "experts". Time to recalibrate and set the record straight.

I wish had access to this information at least 15 years ago, my mother ruined our entire family and reduced my dad to a robotic enabler, she would leave him by himself for long periods of time and when he was ill treated him terribly, he is now deceased . She continues to manipulate and abuse my brother who is the "golden child" and caused the collapse of his marriage, Prof Sam i would really appreciate it if you could do a talk on the narc mother and the effect she has on her children.

Yes, the mother narc is such a traumatic experience, being gaslit and abused from the moment we are born.

You already know it as you lived it first hand. If you want to hear something even more depressing then here it is, narcisstic abuse can cause dementia once the victim gets old. Also narcisstic abuse tends to destroy the short term memory of the victims (this might be a defense mechanism to the trauma) They also tend to become people pleasers. They can become an empty shell of their former self. They don’t want anything anymore, they just become the demon’s codependent puppet. You can’t fix them, run and never look back. If you have to interract with them use the gret rock method and never tell them anything that can hurt you. Don’t tell them if you succeeded at anything or bought anything, not even a hair cut, as they will on purpose put doubt in your mind. If tou have to first tell it to people you trust, then tell the demon (don’t) and see how they try to hurt you.

Holy crap! This video just hit the nail on the head!!!!! Everything you just said that the do when they first meet you….. word for word is exactly what happened! Telling me everything about himself, his entire life story in less than 24 hours….. selling himself to me, essentially… I did know something was “off”…. I dismissed it….. apparently I’m a narcissist.

17 years between two narcissistic. Went homeless couldn't get back on my feet couldnt figure out what i am suppose to do with my life jumping from thing to thing over eating been broke. Been living with my mother now and still struggling to find myself but I'm finally begining my journey to redefine myself. After Lost two children from the stress I finally became so broken that any narcissistic that I attract I look to verbally destruct. I think I've become the narcissistic.

More than brilliant, this is the way out of so many forms of repeated abuse. It is hopeful showing the differences of science, where judgements are made through the results of replicated results experiments, and psychology where people have many things in common, but do not move through the powerful emotions of love, grief, expections and defeat exactly the same. Yes, language is the key to the dream of clarity and peace.

Dear Sam ! Very recently I came across of some of your videos and others about covert Norcissist. I never heard of Norcissist before. .. in the past two years I was in relationship with a guy who is Norcissist completely drained me mentally, emotionally and financially, he took a lot of money from money to buy a house for our future but he went to his country and married a young girl The same age of his son. He spent all my saving for his wedding and buying gold and diamonds jewelry and land for her he left me completely destroyed . I saw some red flags from the beginning but I thought it’s not that serious. Now I am suffering and completely shattered . I can not cope it hurts very badly. What should I do ? 😢

Hello Mr Vaknin, I would like your opinion on a matter, because I have no one else to ask. I am on psychiatric medications after being hospitalised against my will. It's been 6 weeks now that I am in the hospital and was told that soon I will leave. The doctors also told me that I need to see a psychiatrist and take meds for at least 2 years, but I don't want to do it. The drugs make me slow and I don't feel alive or like myself. I feel dumbed down and lethargic. I also have zero libido and have put on weight, which makes me very sad. Everybody's telling me that the side effects will subside and I will reach a point where I won't even feel that I'm taking the drug. They are also telling me success stories from other people with the same condition as me that made it and are living a good life without drugs now. Should I quit cold turkey or follow the doctors' orders? I am in a dilemma and would like an input or an opinion. I don't want to spend the next 2-5 years on drugs, but I also am scared to go cold turkey, fearing what might this choice cause to me. What is your opinion? (or anybody else's reading this comment)

Meditate and if you have faith of any sort tap into it as best you can. I took escitalopram, an SSRI; for 48 hours and had a terrifying reaction that lasted several weeks. It felt like complete hell and I would NEVER expose myself to any psychiatric medication again. It felt like a bad trip, but everyone's biochemistry is different and not everyone will react the same way. Best wishes and God bless

Any ideas about how to deal with a narcissist who gets himself a narcissistic lawyer? It's a double whammy, they both seem to really enjoy prolonging the inevitable divorce just for the sadistic fun of it, all essentially being paid by the failed marriage savings, that the narcissist is in control of 😅
