We need to hear the story of Afu-Ra - Defeat, one of DJ Premier's illest productions. A beat that really shows who's the king of sample chopping. I'd love to hear Premier get more technical in this series and explain how the beats were made.

"Ask the teenagers, OG's and nasty kids What their definition of "classic" is Timeless, so age don't count in the booth When your flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth" Rakim is something different. His lyrics go beyond conscious, or clever.

This is one of my fav tracks from Ra. He flows over that beat so effortlessly, dropping barrrrs. It wraps up perfectly too “At night the open mic be inviting me to rhyme, So yo I’m online, it’s been a long time…”
Rakim the GOAT 🤴🏿👍
I Also Love "When I B On The Mic" From His The Master Album....
Rakim the GOAT
My favourite DJ talking about a song he did with my favourite MC...These videos are food for the soul in an era when soul is missing in a majority of hip hop. I'm grateful for this. :)

The fact that Preemo let us know that his favorite rapper will never be changed gives me even more reasons to have him as my favorite producer of all time. Rakim is definitely the greatest of all time, and like preemo said, this will never be changed!
Rakim is the GOAT love the NEW YORK flow
I grabbed the 18th Letter when i was about 15, straight coincidence i discovered it at a local CD store and instantly knew this is the shit even i never heard of Rakim or Premier before. Classic🔥
One of my favorite RAKIM joints.
Simply cannot get enough of this series
Damn, it's my birthday today, I can't believe how happy this makes me. Salute the Gods!
This shit is TIMELESS! I always thought The 18th Letter was underrated. That “Catchin diabetes from fly sweeties” line amongst others were so dope. That “Stay Awhile” joint was different for his style but just showed how universal he was, and it just worked. All of that material was bangin. Rakim is one of those dudes like KRS or Chuck D that you just can’t fuck with, PERIOD. Lyrically he’s no doubt one of the best. Thank you for continuing this whole series Preemo. I got two KZread accounts and I’m subbed to your channel on both of em. That way when you drop some new shit I’m sure not to miss it from the jump. Keep killin it my dude!!!👍🏻💯💪🏼

We need real Hip Hop like we need oxygen. Thank you so much my brother!!! Peace- Oh, and to the “Bald Head Slick” Rest In Peace brother Guru!
He takes along time because of he is a lyrical master. Rakim and Big Daddy Kane will always have the top spot on my Top 3, and then Black Thought.

I'm Greatfull to all the creatives involved with that album. At that point in my mid 20's and being a big Rakim fan from the first time I heard Mr. World Premiere, Eric B. for President on WBLS. I needed that album. For me it was vindication for crowning Rakim the Greatest of All Time after the song "Know The Ledge" I thought maybe I was too young and really didn't understand the music and the culture the way I thought. I had favorites but to me Rakim was the pinnacle of the art form. That Album proved it. No other artist in the genre to that point had taken such a hiatus to then return with a critical and commercial hit.
I bought 18th Letter on a break from work, Wherehouse Records was right across the street. When I got back, Pump Pump Up the VOLUME!
