So... That Was a LIE
Ойын-сауық
As concerns grow over the potential for a bird flu pandemic, this video examines the efficacy of different mask types in preventing the spread of respiratory viruses. Drawing from a comprehensive review of clinical trials and observational studies, it presents evidence that tight-fitting N95/KN95 respirator masks are far more effective than loose surgical masks at filtering out airborne particles and contaminants. The video details how respirators create a sealed barrier when worn properly, as well as the importance of consistent mask usage to avoid exposure. It argues that normalizing the wearing of high-grade respirators could be crucial for slowing transmission in the early stages of a pandemic until vaccines are developed. With bird flu already showing animal-to-human transmission with respiratory symptoms, this video makes a strong case for upgrading to well-fitted respirators as an essential protective measure.

This is why I stay in my little hidey hole and sew.
Wearing either cloth masks or the trifold paper masks have helped me not get common colds and the like over the past few years. I'm not in prolonged, in-door locations though.

I love cloth masks!!!
Trans people wearing masks to pass better: "oh no, masks, anyway"
tip for those with paper masks: twist the sides before putting it over your ears. it tightens up the mask to your face a little bit.
This is why I still mask

Everyone around me woild always tsll me that I'm being silly. I'm not even really doing it vecause of covid. I just like it. Why would I want people to be able to interpret random emotions into my face? I don't want that. I don't understand that.

The entire world is still suffering with covid, but all our governments have decided that the economy needs to keep churning and that it doesn't matter how many of us get permanently sick. They'll just deny your disability claims and let you die, as they have done for decades

1:22 "if you're wearing a mask most of the day at work and then you pull it down to eat or drink... that is not effective use of the mask" Are you suggesting the participants shouldn't have been eating and drinking at work? Or that the ideal scenario is that no one eats or drinks at work, at all, to maximize mask efficacy? Because that's not possible or ethical...
@sarcomeresarecool

Yeah, I think it would be more accurate to say it's a *less* effective use of the mask; infection afaik has a lot to do with the amount of exposure, and wearing a mask most of the time but not for some of the time is much less exposure than wearing a mask none of the time, but more exposure than if you wore the mask all of the time.

Its harder for hospital staff bcs there's not a lot of areas to eat outside unless you wanna sit on the hot curbside or eat in your car. I'm not sure if there are limitations or sanitation barriers for medical staff. For non-medical staff, we have to log out at a designated station, and walking outside or to our cars and back will shave off a large chunk of out of our 30 minute lunch breaks. (Walking to and from the cafeteria already take off 5 minutes, if you're parked up front or in the outer lots, you're sol)

@@LuxanderRealmost people don't earn their money from other people's donations from the comfort of their home and can neither decide when or if they can go outside during work Insanely privileged take, guess I'll only get to drink water once in the middle of the day
I can only afford regular masks, BUT I have only gotten sick 2 times over the past two years and the only time I got COVID was because of using an air hand dryer in the bathroom. I sanitize my hands at work every few half hours or so, and if I've been shopping. I do need to take it off to eat n drink thou. The other time I got sick was because I sat near someone who " had asthma " but actually had COVID n lied about the asthma. So I just avoid everyone who sniffles or coughs idgaf if it's a " medical disability " I'm not risking it.

I hate that people have to be weary, like I’ve had respiratory issues pre-covid and severe allergies. During the pandemic I’d be scared people will think I had covid if I coughed even if I wasn’t sick. Assholes lying about medical issues make it harder for those if us who actually have them.

@@Æuvelity me but with my allergy issues and sinus issues 🙌 I can't afford to get sick thou which is why I'm so weary now, my mom has Lupus and I have POTS. I don't want her to get hospitalized n I don't want a worse version of POTS (something a friend of my mom got after long covid) (I also can't afford to take sick days from work, as it'd get me fired if it's too many)
"doesn't stop it all" "but the roni is smaller than the tiny openings of the mask" so is a single blade of grass smaller than the gaps of a chainlink fence, but if you mow the grass and have the chute shitting it out at the fence, it will just clump on the fence and not get through. Same thing happens with the mask and the ronis all bunched together in droplets of breath/sneeze/cough flem. Or even better comparison, every fart has shit particles flying out the asshole past them cheeks cuz a fart is honking at the turd to yield the right-of-way. Could you imagine if we were a nudist society, how much of somebody else's shit getting stuck on you and everywhere when you walk by? Yeah. The clothes at least slow it down, might not completely solve farts but the masks have the same thing apply. Lastly, yeah. Go ahead and say all that whenever you gotta say it
If you aren’t able to afford quality masks/respirators, check if there’s a mask bloc in your area. In many places in the US, you can contact a mask bloc to send you free masks. And if you have money/time to spare, consider donating to/volunteering with the bloc!
Thank you for giving me that 10% chance idea that's gonna stay in my head like a game mechanic
Yet another case of "It works, but only if you use it correctly." I find this so annoying. Obviously something isn't going to work if you use it INcorrectly. When we say that something works, "but only if you use it correctly" is implied. There are so many studies like this.
My husband and I have only been wearing the cheap disposable masks. We're fortunate enough to have pretty limited contact with large groups of people, but he hasn't been sick since before COVID and I've only been sick once (I don't know whether it was covid or not, but I kept my mask on when he was around and he never caught it). So, they definitely aren't as good as the higher quality things, but I still think it's better than nothing. With bird flu coming in, we'll probably be even more diligent about wearing out masks again (if it starts to get bad, I'll ask him to wear them around his clients too).
Down here in florinda we got malaria, west nile virus, Leprosy, ebola, Monkey pox and herpes, Taziki virus, Flesh eating bacteria, face eating zombies, And brain eating amoebas, and meth gators and cocaine sharks. bird flu sounds pretty benign .

Cocaine sharks? When in the world did that come into the picture?
I got covid 7 months ago (holiday season) and I have been dealing with so may health issues ever since. Its horrible. I was perfectly healthy before and now I deal with daily chronic joint pain, lethargy, asthma, a cough that just won't go away, and anemia from an insainly heavy menstral flow that I never had before covid. So now I wear an N95 mask out in public. I dont even want to think what else would happen to me if I got covid again...
I do recommend getting an industrial p100; it's more cost up front but it'll last longer
Damn, I wish my N95s had a decent seal. When there's enough of a gap around the nose that causes my glasses to fog up, that tells me that unfiltered air is most likely coming in as well. And sure enough, I've gotten sick the last 2 times I've gone to the store... fortunately I've been able to arrange my life such that I almost never need to go out.
I hope some of y'all go ahead and purchase some masks, it's okay to start up community self-defense again. The normalization of mask etiquette will take time, be brave and wear it.
I've got both a Honeywell respirator and a 3M respirator! 😊

Since there is currently no reports of bird flu in goats, im gonna switch to goat’s milk. A quarter of a gallon may be more in comparison to cow’s milk, but im willing to shell out an extra $2 to keep me safe and still get the nutrients from animal milk. Besides, goat’s milk is easier on your stomach during digestion. So its a win win. Lol. My state of NY has no reports of bird flu yet, but can’t hurt to take precaution. And I still have tons of masks left from the covid pandemic, so im set incase NY gets infected. 👍🏻👍🏻 I haven’t been actually sick at all since 2018. Its just all seasonal allergies cuz my body is sensitively dramatic over cat hair, pollen, and dust. 😅 Also, deliberately coughing, licking, and/or spitting on food at grocery stores, that is considered as biological mass destruction. That was a big issue at the hight of the covid pandemic. Right wingers would cough on produce just to cause more deaths. Kids would open sealed ice cream, lick it, and put it back on the freezer shelves. I hate how gross people in America are.
Bird flu... Birds are cool. Imagine being a bird. Just like flying and singing. Possibly going on vacation for free every year. Good.
