There's a foreshadowing to the paralysis demon on the television: everything turns red, the killer's silhouette becomes dark and his eyes are bright orange. I also realized that there's some references to Arachnophobia(1990): spiders spreading across his body and coming out of his mouth

I like how the world around is constantly blurred when it begins, Miles feels like he's living in an illusion. I feel like something a lot of people forget is that Miles was infected, yes he was given powers, amazing ones, but he's still the victim of a multiversal threat, part of a community that is destined to always lose those they love, no matter what. And Miles has his demons, the spider within, and he feels like he's being poisoned from the inside, because in a way, he is.

Oh man this is SO GOOD! It's crazy to think that Beyond the Spider-Verse was supposed to come out this week. 😭 Gotta love the classic "hero fights his adversary within the confines of his own mind" story. The manifestation of one's anxiety can be scary.

You answered the question. Animation is better than live action in almost every way. The amount of cgi to make a live action version of Across the spiderverse would have made everything look ridiculous.

I especially appreciate that the short doesn't explore the conversation or pretend it magically got rid of miles' sleep paralysis demon because I get the impression the director knew a) it didn't matter exactly what they talked about as long as it was about miles' troubles and b) talking about your issues doesn't make them go away it just makes them visible and comprehensible which is a far more realistic and useful expectation

I was soooo confused, I already saw this a while ago and liked it, I didn't understand why everyone was acting like it's new or if I was actually going insane

It's so deep and emotional. It scared me the first time I watched. Miles and his dad used to sort of disconnect but they know in heart that they always love each other. Miles chose to talk to his dad when suffering the inner pain. That's really inspirational.

The most horrific part its how much it took the animators to make it

If you notice, the suit Miles is wearing is from the first film, the spray-painted one, so pretty sure this takes place before the second film.

Since Mile did mentioned the "one girl" to his father, I hope Gwen learns her mistakes and maybe reconciled their relationship in Beyond the Spiderverse. Of course she needs to earn Miles' trust again in her since he is both hurt and mad in his own personal perspective. there gonna be rough patches along the way.

Spiderverse is my absolute 1# favorite movie series. Ever, of all time. Something i noticed also is part of the paralysis sequence took place in a train, and i wonder if that's calling back to the first film with miles and kingpin, it also legitimately scared me without feeling "cheap" which is my problem with a lot of horror, it also made me decide mabye i dont want sleep paralysis lol (Theres context but thats for my therapist)

I love how the short PERFECTLY coveys it’s message. The darkness is the embodiment of Miles negativity energy, his inner demon. As he tries to fight it he realized he can’t do it physically. He needs mental health. It’s no villain, it’s reality. The strongest enemy, and I LOVE IT!✨🔥

The Spider within has to be my favorite shorts next to For the birds, You’re friend is a Rat,Salesman Pete this has to be one I enjoyed I love the ideas of mental the animation is always top notch also horror elements with the visuals is really I dig and it’s very cool

It's not about horror it's about mental health.

It’s night and day to compare this to Madame Web. I’m tired of Sony being unable to make a decent Spider Man spinoff. Especially when compared to the main hero himself.

I think this before across the spider verse because Miles wears his into the spider verse suit in the frames of him getting beat up at the beginning

So someone on that team was CLEARLY very inspired by Legend of Korra cause this is the exact plot to I think season 4 where she had to deal with a literal physical manifestation of herself in the Avatar State after having nearly been killed by Zaheer's Airbending. And I mean that in the best possible way. I think WHY these types of stories always work best as horror based, is because it's those parts of you that you DON'T like confronting that make these other versions so terrifying. That fear manifests in different ways-for Miles it's a shadow version of himself. For Korra, it's herself at her most powerful, but going solely off instinct to survive. Unleashed. Unbalanced. Unhinged. And that thought alone...what we are capable of when we are pushed past our limit? It's enough to give anyone nightmares.

I didn't fully understand the fundraiser, but miles's inner demons/memories feel exactly like those I'm currently experiencing. Miles has always been my favorite superhero, bc never have i related more for a hero than Ms. Marvel (but that was just the show being a slice-of-life show and me being Indian). I swear my parents are like this, and I try to tell them, but not only do they misunderstand what I'm trying to say and what's going on, but I don't fully understand what's going on, and I look to stuff like this to ig make my feelings tangible. I like how they're not shown as evil monsters. Jeff is just a nice dad, and he's honestly perfectly justified for him to be mad at Miles, but the problem is the consequences that has on Miles's psyche, consequences he barely knows about. I wish i could tell my parents what I'm going through without just breaking down into tears and rage. Damn, i didn't expect to post this on a reaction video to a Spider-man short film of all things. Oh well, it's out there. the internet already knows.

This short makes me miss the itsv suit even more. Bring back the goat suit in beyond please 😭

I have a theory that in Spider Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Miles will reveal his identity to his universe because it will show that he's different from the other spider people. Also since he was struggling to balance both lives and he would want to let everyone know what's going on. He could also beacon the Spot towards him so he could defeat him once and for all.

Spiderman wouldn't be Spiderman if he doesn't experience the same human troubles as the rest of us! This is the core of why Spiderman is so beloved; HE IS STRUGGLING LIKE ALL OF US!!!

This short basically proved that Sony Animation is capable of handling an R-Rated animated Spider-Man film after Beyond the Spider-Verse. It's also a welcome PSA on anxiety attacks and how they are no joke. It's more common than one would believe and it's great to see Sony Animation handling it with maturity and sincerity.

I love how between this short and a certain sequence towards the end of MSM2, that we're really delving into the Persona-esk style of discussing Mental health and how we view ourselves and our struggles. Now I'm not saying that the short necessarily took inspiration from Persona (though considering Yuri Lowenthal was in two of those games, I would like to think that played a role in MSM2), but this type of stuff is why I love those games, and seeing Spidey tackle it in a similar way is a dream come true for me
