+GlitchyShadow13 But Megalovania has existed since the Halloween Earthbound hack, meaning that Megalovania is an original song itself, so even if all other Undertale OSTs originated from Dogsong, there would be 2 original soundtracks in Undertale; Dogsong and Megalovania. There are only two other possible explanations, either Dogsong is not the sole original soundtrack in Undertale, or even Megalovania came from Dogsong. The latter would mean that Dogsong has existed for a looooooooooooooong time, as long as Megalovania. :O

It's pretty common among composers to wrote 3-5 different melodies, and then remix them if they're for the same thing, in this case, Undertale. Just look for some original movie soundtrack, it always have SOME tones in all songs that reminds you that you're watching THAT movie. It's like a trick to make it remarkable :)

It's called a leitmotif, and it's heard in numerous sans related tracks. "It's Raining Somewhere Else", "Megalovania", etc. etc. you can all hear that same motif.

In Megalovania you can't hear any leitmotif of sans, It's Raining Somewhere Else, or Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans. Because Megalovania isn't sans' battle theme, it's the player's battle theme, or Chara's/Frisk's theme. Sans battle theme is Song that Might Play when you fight Sans. But it is not played at the game because you are not fighting Sans, Sans is fighting you, that's why Megalovania plays.

I have not heard any leitmotif in Megalovania, it's one of the only songs in the OST that has no leitmotifs, and is thus unique. Other songs that I THINK might be unique/not having a leitmotif as far as I remember, are "Determination", "Heartache", "Dogbass", "Mysterious Place", "Premonition", "Danger Mystery", "Undyne", "Run!", "Bird That Carries You Over A Disproportionately Small Gap", "Chill", "Thundersnail", "Ooo", "Alphys", "Stronger Monsters", "Wrong Enemy", "Oh My...", "Long Elevator", "The Choice", "Small Shock", "Barrier", "She's Playing Piano", "Here We Are", "Amalgam", "But The Earth Refused To Die", and "Goodnight". Now, I am not saying all of those songs don't have leitmotifs or are unique or not remixed or sped up or slowed down or reversed from other tracks, but with these, I can't think of any other songs that share the same melody in some way. I feel like "Here We Are" and "Amalgam" are remixes of each other, but at the same time they do sound pretty different, and if they are remixes of each other, it's probably in a special way that you can't hear unless you mess around with it. I also FEEL like "Oh My..." should have a leitmotif, but I simply can't place its melody in my head, same with "Heartache" and "Determination", I feel like they SHOULD have leitmotifs, but I can't remember any. At the very least, these are the ones from the OST (plus "Megalovania") that have the potential of being unique, as all the other tracks clearly do have leitmotifs or are remixes of each other. Which is 26 songs that are possibly unique, but may also be remixes in a way that I can't hear, but which you might know.

@@Rubywing4 Well, Stronger Monsters has leitmotifs of "Enemy Aproaching" If you speed up, Amalgam, sounds like Battle Against A True Hero. And Heartache and Determination don't have leitmotifs, bur they're leitmotifs in ASGORE. The other ones, don't have leitmotif apparently.

And yeah, now that you mention it, Amalgam does sound like Battle Against A True Hero, but with like every second note missing. I can't really recall Enemy Approaching in Stronger Monsters. Also can't recall where Determination is in ASGORE.

All of the characters' fight themes are a remix of their regular theme. Which is why MEGALOVANIA isn't sans's theme.

The point he's trying to make is that songs that coincide with a character all have "leimotifs". It's a part of general music theory. If you play it's raining somewhere else and sans (please, not together) they have the same general melody, but with different tempo and background. also, battle against a true hero totally does have the same leimotif as Spear of Justice, and NGAAAAH. literally just go like, 30 seconds or a minute into the song and you'll hear it. It's not the slow little piano part in the beginning, and just because Battle has more to it than just Spear doesn't mean it isn't the same motif/"a remix". Battle also shares traits with "power of NEO" because of the similarity in situations - Frisk is gone, it's all Chara. It's not necessarily all about the boss, but the character. and how they have become the bad guy, despite still being the protaginist. Also, Heartache (while still about Toriel herself) is more a song about parent fighting child, which is why ASGORE directly quotes a few bars from it. TL'DR: if you were paying attention to any of the tracks and when/why they happened, this isn't news at all. Do some research m8.

Actually no. There is a bit of history behind megalovania, Megalovania's very first appearance wasn't in Undertale. It was in earthbound, the halloween hack to be precise. The final boss had Megalovania playing, but it wasn't the same like in Undertale, It was a lot different. Then, it appeared in Homestuck, i don't know when it played, but i know that, Megalovania played in it. But, it wasn't the same like Undertale, nor earthbound. It was a different version. Then, Toby fox adjusted it, for the megalovania we know today, that is in Undertale. You can find videos about it on KZread.

That's... kinda the point of STMPWYFS. It's his motif, but played differently. Just like "Nyeh heh heh!" and "Bonetrousle". Bonetrousle is a version of Nyeh heh heh that is extended, signifying that you got to the important part of the battle/encounter.

for me megalovania is just the theme of frisk being the monster and chara has megalo strick back wich would make sense since megalovania and megalo strick back were supposed to be for a mother rom hack wich was now undertale but toby composed megalo strick back and megalovania from the mother rom hack not for undertale, making the 2 humans seen in the game have them makes a coincidence wich again i think isnnt a coincudence and like u said STMPWYFS is just like nyeheheh and bonetrousle another form of showing sans is STMPWYFS plus having this bonetrousle part in STMPWYFS is a very good indication too

@@bush4898 Megalo Strikes Back is only ever used for Chara in Fanworks, and never appears in the game. Technically, Chara's theme is a slow heartbeat accompanied by howling wind, because that's both described as the sound of Determination (by Undyne) and quite literally the sounds audible during the only physical encounter with them. However, I will admit it is a banger of a song and using it for Chara was one of the best things this community has done.

I think that megalovania is sans's theme, because it doesnt start playing until after his first attack. (Its just my opinion tho dont hate). Also, some characters do have more than 1 battle theme (mettaton, undyne, etc.) So that isn't a reason why it isn't sans's theme. Some people say it's the player/chara's theme bc sans attacks first, but it doesnt start playing until after his first attack.

So, when I heard "Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans" after hearing "sans," I already knew it used the same leitmotif, but actually seeing someone put the work in to show that it is feels vindicating and is also awesome.

Megalovania is the song that plays in Sans' Genocide fight. 'Song that Might Play when you Fight Sans' is in the Undertale OST but doesn't play anywhere in game.

Just another sign that Megalovania is not Sans theme. "Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans" is Sans theme. YOU FIGHT SANS, Sans attacks first, therefor, Megalovania is your theme.

Sage Cenatori Umm, I'm going to disagree with you there. Yes, 'That Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans' is Sans' theme, most characters tend to have more than one battle theme; one for Genocide and one for Pacifist/Neutral. Like how Mettaton EX's theme is 'Death by Glamour' in Pacifist, but 'Power of Neo' in Genocide. Undyne's theme is 'Spear of Justice' in Pacifist, but 'Battle Against a True Hero' in Genocide. Megalovania is Sans' Genocide battle theme, and 'That Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans' is just Sans' Pacifist battle. It's just that Sans is too lazy to fight you in the Pacifist route.

That is true, but In all the different changed themes the monsters change too, undyne is different, mettaton is different, but sans doesn’t change at all, and how would a pacifist fight make him look different?

The monsters' change in appearance have nothing to do with their theme. Sure, Mettaton transforms into Mettaton NEO, and the theme 'Power of NEO' does play, rather than Metal Crusher, but I see Mettaton as an outlier, rather than an example. In Pacifist, Metal Crusher is his main theme, but the songs 'It's Showtime' also plays part of the time. And with Undyne, she has a variety of themes rather than her two battle themes like "She's Playing Piano" or "Undyne". What I'm trying to say is that although their themes do change when Undyne and Mettaton transform, their transformations aren't the cause of the change in soundtrack. Think of Papyrus for example. Normally, when you fight him "Bonetrousle" plays, but in Genocide, he doesn't transform or change at all, but the soundtrack does (The actual name of the soundtrack that plays evades me, but I think it's "Papyrus Still Believes in You"). And I know that this is a rather dumb or irrelevant point to add, but one might argue that Sans' glowing eye is a change in appearance(It's really not, but stick with me here), but all and all, I don't think a pacifist fight would change Sans in any way, but I also don't think it needs too to consider Megalovania his theme. Sorry for writing so much, I'm really just trying to get out of doing my math homework. You know how it is on Sunday Nights...

Tide Sensation | Jaleel Tide "She's Playing Piano" is just Undyne playing Alphy's theme on Piano. Not to take away from what you're saying. I believe Megalovania is Sans' theme as well. I think the your theme (Chara's theme) is "Too Much". Which makes more sense. I know that's just Flowey's theme slowed down, but remember what Asriel said in the Pacifist run (Spoiler ahead if you haven't done this. Proceed with caution) when you travel all the way back to the ruins before everyone goes to the surface. He said he and Chara shared one body, combined with their souls. And Chara was the more evil side, wanting to use his/her full power to wipe out humanity. So it would make sense that Chara's theme is just a darker version of Flowey's theme.

And thats how " song that might play when you fight sans " from dance tale made.

I already noticed this before because I loved both of these themes.

For those thinking it's Muffet's theme: it's actually the song that might play when you fight sans.
