Snap! The set has rekindled my interest in MtG for the first time since NEO. I plan to buy a Play Bundle (the first time I've bought anything similar since the Mirage 60 card box) because the lore, theme and world-building - the whole cosy, anthropomorphic vibe - is perfect. Will be interested to see how the Standard meta is shaped by Bloomburrow, especially the Season cards. Some of them feel as though they make break something. Will definitely be watching Jim Davis' Bloomburrow Bronze to Mythic. Good to know that MtG designers can still produce such sets when WoTC decides to give a crap.

Season of Loss could be insane in some aristocrat or token black deck. I don't know if such a deck exists post-rotation, but worst case scenario, I have at least 3 decks for it in brawl.

This reminds me of the Redwall book series I read as a kid, as a noob that started after the LOTR set, I'm excited for this one!

There's a seriously missed opportunity here, the winter version of the lands should have been snow-covered... they're literally covered in snow.

My wife and I both read Redwall as kids, and this is the first time I've seen her show interest in magic. I'm not the biggest commander player, but getting the full set of commanders and then buffing up the decks with some tribal staples and other cards from the set is going to be my move.

Valiant, It's Heroic but better because abilities and therefore, way way way better even if they've limited activations per turn. Just throw in some lighting grieves and chain that equip 0 cost to proc all your creatures with Valiant for free.

In older formats, starseer mentor + Exquisite Blood seems silly. Basically, it forces them to sacrifice or discard.

Redwall the set lmao. Edit: Maha looks nuts. Plenty of 1 damage boardwipes incoming off that dude.

I'm not loving impossible warded creatures. Definitely loving how Ygra Eater of All has a silly ward cost but also lets anyone with a creature meet the ward requirement. Maybe WotC is learning when ward is too powerful.

20:25 I realize they're using Warlocks to support the Rogue type, but they really missed an opportunity to have Lizard Wizards, imo.

Not really. We've had lands that depicted winter before and weren't snow. We'll be alright. It would honestly be more weird to have four seasons, but only one of them gets a name change.

The question I want answered: What would Ajani look like on Bloomburrow? Does he remain unchanged, does he turn into a cute kitty, or does he turn into something completely different?

I like how energy lets you bank all or some of the gained energy. Pawprints doesnt have to be mechanically unique from energy. Shame you cannot bank any of it x

It's possible. But probably only really combos if Ygra is your Commander. But VR is OK in general with people sacrifice treasure often.

I feel like Ygra could have a substantial impact. It is competing with Gitrog and Aclazotz though. When your opponent has neither creatures nor food, it effectively has hexproof. But that's inconsequential compared to its static ability. Turning all creatures into food artifacts is going to open up a slew of new ways to interact with them. Suddenly all your cards that interact with artifacts but not creatures can now pull double duty. Tear Asunder can remove creatures without paying the kicker. Nissa, Ascended Animist can minus 1 to destroy a creature. Brotherhood's End becomes a better Path of Peril, and Fade from Antiquity becomes green Wrath of God that incidentally makes Ygra MASSIVE. These are just a few examples. Not to mention that turning your own creatures into food artifacts can help with either artifact synergies and/or buffering your life total. And we already have some support for BG food, including the Restless Cottage. Maybe Ygra can help make that deck viable.

Sort of, but people were also giddy about Gitrog and that barely sees play. Aclazotz is just so far superior that you need to have specific deck reason to run Ygra or Gitrog over it.

​​@@PowrDragnI agree that in a vacuum, Aclazotz is a better card, but I still think you can build around Ygra. What it has going for it over Gitrog is at least some protection, and it doesn't need other (disposable) creatures in play to have a meaningful effect on the game. And, think about this combo in BG: Ygra + Mosswood Dreadknight. Ygra is giving the Mosswood Dreadknight the food ability to sack itself, so if you're in a situation where you need life or more cards, this is a repeatable source that also grows Ygra larger. For 6 mana you're getting a card, 2 life, and 2 power added to the board, if you have nothing better to do obviously. Another incentive to lean into food is this new mana dork, Thornvault Forager, which can get you up to 5-mana on turn 3 with a good draw. This may not end up being a top tier deck, but I'm sure you and other content creators will at least take it for a spin at some point.

Season of Weaving will probably end up in Similacrum Sythesizer decks. Board wipe your opponent, copy Synth, boom, profit for artifact deck.

Maha Its Feather Night is dirty in commander lol There are plenty of almost playable creatures give -1/-1 to all creatures (or just opponents' creatures). Having this in your command zone, you can lock down people's opportunity to have creatures or play the game effectively. This effect is rather new for a creature to be giving other creatures a toughness change?

I worry that if Sunfall isn’t banned, all these creature midrange decks won’t be viable.

Creature decks are viable with Sunfall running around now. I don't expect much will change. We have plenty of sweepers now and folks have still found ways to play creatures.

A lot of prowess cards. Potentially you could have a creature with like 4xprowess or triple at least.

They aren't generated. It's all on the card itself. You just choose a number of them to use (up to five) to get the effects you want. It's more of just a choice, than a resource. You don't earn them or store them.

Alania's trigger is a mostly better Demonstrate as your opponent doesn't get a copy of your spell. Lilysplash Mentor has some janky potential, you can enable +1/+1 counter shenanigans and ETB triggers with that flicker and if you have The Ozolith, you'll get to hold onto those counters. Something hilarous/mindbleach inducing is using Zinnia, Valley's Voice to make offspring of Eldrazi. Also an amusing story note: Ral does not like being an animal, especially having a tail. Though that does bring up the question of what happens to Bloomburrow natives when they leave their plane. I'm looking forward to how they portray a specific creature [Hint: Dragonstorm] that made an apperance in the story.

For kitnap if you don't gifted it then they keep the creature but it's tapped for 3 turns

Nope, different paragraphs. It's a Control Magic that taps the creature and, if you don't gift, puts 3 stun counters on it. Either way, you steal it.

@9:26, ewwww. What a scam. I would value these at 25 cents. Maybe 50 cents a value booster. The value isnt there. These are fair commons and uncommons. I doubt WotC or retailers will treat them fairly though. Probably suckering in someone to thinking they are getting a rare/mythic in this booster. Really if WotC is going to encourage gambling, they should show you your odds of getting a rare or mythic in the wild card slot.

The black cards now have trample, insane abilities, flying, ward, and so on... mtg is getting ridiculous
