    That's definitely an opinion that most don't agree with. I'd say Standard has been pretty good for a while now. Even solid diversity among top finishing decks in events. But I also understand that not everything is going to be for everyone. That said, Standard is the last format that needs attention right now.

    The streamer experiments so we don't waste our wildcards. I wouldn't want it any other way. Do people really think that every single 1 New Deck a Day that 80% of Magic streamers try to show are all bangers?

    Solid list! It did well in showcasing the powerful pieces of the Lizard core. I'm also thinking that another copy of Posse Boss would be nice, maybe you could get away with 23 lands? I may also look at black removal options, though I like the burn package for this particular archetype.

    Is rotation a 3 yr cycle or a 2 yr cycle with 4 additional set added to the pervious 4?

  • @PowrDragn
    @PowrDragnКүн бұрын

    I'm not sure I understand the question how it's being presented. However in Standard rotation happens with the fall release. Anything that came out in the year that's 3 back (so three year rotation) falls off. There will be one outlier set in Foundations (I have a video on my channel covering that). However you can always check www.whatsinstandard.com if you're unsure of what's leagal and what will be in the future.

    the reason why i only play limited be it set draft or cube. no use in spending money on any other format since most of them are rotating formats. now that standard will have foundations modern looks even more rotational, since all decks use a bunch of the new cards, in 4 years most decks will be comprised of MH set cards since they push the old cards out of the format. at max i play some standard or timeless if i get enough wildcards from drafting to make a deck.

    Ultimately it doesn't matter. However, the opponent had either 4 or 5 cards in hand and piles of open mana so it still feels way more risky to spend those resources there than it does to wait on the following. And we got them tapped out. But either way, game wasn't affected by it. Game ends the same on the next turn.

    I would love to see a standard, no comment on other formats as I have no experience playing them, where a set is released and all cards are removed from the ban list. 2 weeks after a set is released the ban hammer kills the top 8. 1 month after a set is released 1 block is removed from standard announced Saturday morning like 08:00 with different blocks getting removed from the next time zone and part of 2 blocks for the next, and part of 3 blocks for the next time zone, the 3-4 sets for the final time zone. 1.5 months out the removal is reversed between Eastern and Western time zones with different blocks getting removed. 2 months later a block from the previous rotation is added in. The concept is to keep the meta new and a challenge to be solved a new every 2 weeks. Bannings and constant rotation of blocks and sets will keep everything in flux and interesting. Long gone will the net deckers way be, as soon as a deck is crowned the best in the meta cards go out cards return cards from a previous rotation comeback.

  • @Jesse110
    @Jesse1108 сағат бұрын

    In paper, gathering the resources to build your deck takes time and money and an environment where things are always in flux scares people away. Wizards tried to roll out a smaller Standard with more frequent rotations once and it was met with such unified backlash that they reversed the decision before it even got to happen. The extending the size of Standard to me speaks that their market research says people enjoy getting to play with their collections longer, even if that means the format gets a bit stale.

    The Nadu Issue is very problematic since, yes, is powerful, but also Wizards can't relliably measure its power since the best tools to do so (MTGO and MTGA) are comepletely useless (since the Combo that we saw in Physical, does not work well with the Time Rules in the Digital Games in big part imposed because of KCI's performance in the past) and LGSs don't really report to Wizards either. So, basically the only way they can get data about Nadu Combo is only though the RCQs (in which they are the ones doing the Organization) and the thing with those is that the main people that play in those are Pro Players that, if they were not aware before PT Amsterdam, they definitely are now that Nadu is (one of) the Deck(s) to beat during the season and will be prepared (so expect Decks/Sideboards with a lot of Nadu Hate during the Season) which means that there will be no longer a real Guarantee that the situation we had on PT Amsterdam will repeat again with everyone so prepared against it One of the biggest reasons why Nadu did so good is that almost no one really expected Nadu to make a major appearance on PT Amsterdam, most expected Ruby Storm instead (even the Topping Nadu decks had their Sideboard so geared against Ruby Storm that they didn't even considered the Mirror Matches either. So Nadu Mirrors were basically about who gets to completely do the combo first rather than making a back and forth since they neither had enough cards to do so). So, now that its fully aware by Pro Players, will Nadu be able to resist all the Hate that will come for it and repeat the PT Scenario? Or, what happened on PT Amsterdam will just end up to be a One Off situation that stemmed around the fact no one was really ready for it? Those are the two questions that will be in Wizards mind when entering this Modern RCQ Season since they can't get data about Nadu's Perfomance otherwise

  • @PowrDragn
    @PowrDragn2 күн бұрын

    I disagree. Literally everyone I spoke to that was involved with the PT was fully aware of Nadu. Pretty much every testing group had multiple versions of it. The commentary team was already making sure they were versed on how it worked even, so they could communicate games with it accurately. Judges also knew, which is how/why they had different tools ready to track it and had notes for rulings and warnings related to it. And they were all concerned about it then. And moreso after the event. There have also been several tournaments still happening which is where people are coming away upset about the format. Pretty sure Nadu was playable in last couple weeks of RCQs to end the last season, so they have that data even. There are also event series like the NRG series where they even had a large $10K event a few days ago that had 200+ players and literally HALF the top 32 were Nadu decks, 4 in the top 8, and they got both finals slots. Also, side note, even with the combo being clunky on line it's started creeping in there, winning some events, and showing up in most top cuts. And you know those games are terrible to even sit through while your opponent goes through the combo, so even the play experience is bad around the card. Two other formats have major problems right now too. Also with lots of data available. In historic, there was just a major tournament two weeks ago where the field was 60%+ energy decks. And Legacy is starting to be even more ifiltrated by Grief, especially in paper events. So they have PLENTY of data. They are definitely aware of the situation. They have their own tournaments. They have organizers and judges passing on data. They have top players expressing concern. They have posts and pictures from tons of social media stuff. There aren't many other, if any, data points I can imagine they are waiting on. And if nothing else, it's worth banning them just from a PR perspective. Ultimately it's their choice. Just doesn't make sense as to why it is what it is.

    @@PowrDragn I have a question I agree that the Nadu deck needs bans But I kept seeing people say it had to be the bird. But only like 2-3 cards in Modern can 0 cost repeatedly active to target a creature. Shuko and Out-rider. Those 2 cards have only ever facilitated combos Cephalic Illusionist combo in Legacy with Shuko has been a thing. So why not ban the cards that have only ever enabled such combos Shukos and Out-Riders 0 cost abilities are obviously known problems for the game since WotC hasn't templates a cards ability like that in like 20 decades almost.

  • @pugnator2749
    @pugnator27492 күн бұрын

    I usually get stuck when building a sealed deck because I try to build a deck with 1) enough creatures, 2) enough removal, and 3) a decent mana curve, and I can usually only tick two of those three boxes. I have never compromised on mana curve, which unfortunately is usually the one box that is hardest to tick, and I end up splashing a third colour to smooth it out, which of course leads to mana screw unless I managed to find some fixing. Your curve here is what I would normally consider unplayable, as it's quite top-heavy. If it's actually possible to get away with having a more top-heavy curve though I'll try to be less strict next prerelease (which is tonight! Bloomburrow). Great video and I look forward to putting this system into practice!

  • @PowrDragn
    @PowrDragn2 күн бұрын

    You can definitely get away with a higher curve. You just end up spending your early turn ramping or playing a bunch of removal so you have some stability on those later turns. But you don't have to be crazy low on the curve. Remember that you also have fewer cards, so your odds are higher of seeing each card. Ultimately though, it comes down to what your card pool is. That said, Bloomburrow needs to be faster with solid removal for small creatures. Mice, Bats, Lizards, and Rats all have potential to have fast starts you'll want to be able to block against or remove those early threats.

    The problem is WotC is a company and they have to sell products and players don't engage with products seen as weaker than what already exists. The real issue is that the wave of new commander players in the 2010's brought with them their constructed "my deck must be tactically the most optimal build" favoring the competitive "I'm here to win" view of engaging with the game into commander which used to be "I'm here to have fun".

    I'm not surprised that wotc isn't doing an emergency banning. I think the bigger issue is when wotc schedules their B&R announcements. Like why was the Standard one just before rotation and just before Modern Horizons 3 Pro Tour. So of course they weren't gonna touch Modern in that B&R announcement. Plus Rcq season was focusing on Pioneer. So they let that play out, eventhough Rakdos Vampire and Amelia are issues.

    @TheEvolver311 Amalia drags games out to time and into draws because it has a non-deterministic combo, which is a tournament nightmare. So it could easily see a ban, much like Yorion did. Wotc even acknowledged that it was an issue in their last B&R announcement but chose not to take action against it because it was in the middle of RCQ season for Pioneer. As for Rakdos Vampires, it's easily over 20% of the meta and might be pushing 30% of the meta currently, which is typically a red flag in non-rotating formats and has a high win percentage.
