Guts has started to read Berserk - we‘re coming to a full circle here! The first arc is just the intro, I guess you’ll be floored (and your opinion of Guts will change drastically) eventually when you continue reading. Also, prepare for the art to just become better and better, and then some

Definitely keep us updated on your progress and thoughts with the series, you really haven't seen anything yet if you're only just getting into the Golden Age. I'd love some daniel greene style videos where you post an update with your thoughts after a few chapters or when you hit a milestone in the story, even if they're more casual like this video.
You are indeed right with your intuition. Black swordsman arc is definitely the point when protag's best friends leaves them & it's all sad before the uptick Sounds like Black Swordsman arc have done it's job. It has set you up with all the right questions to ask to enjoy the Golden Age arc : )

Volume 1 is where to start, it’s a prologue and then time jumps after it’s done setting up a bunch of stuff

@@TheJackedNerd. tbh I never read the Manga but I did watch the Trilogy of Berserk films that came out forever and a day ago that focused on the golden age arc. It's freaking memorable to say the least bro lol
Pretty late but guts has some of the best and biggest character development out of any manga/anime character over the story. The only small issue I have with berserk is that some chapters just feel not interesting and or are difficult to understand. If its your first manga it may set your expectations for other mangas very high as overall its objectively one of the best mangas there is. Truly no other media has made me cry as hard as berserk at moments and I still tear up just by looking at certain panels.

For some advice, try to read the whole thing 2 or 3 times, i only understood the story like 90% after the 10th time reading it
I wouldn't say Golden Age is peak fiction it's more of an appetizer of the main course
But berserk WAS revolutionary! The things you see as normal were made popular by berserk!
