She comes from a Gospel background. And she is a cancer survivor. She had pneumonia when she did this performance. Her Dr. Didnt want her to sing ,but as you can see and hear , she was amazing. All of the performances are amazing.

No matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh? The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to really pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message. Sohyang was named by her grandmother, whom she believes God inspired with the name even though neither her parents nor grandmother were Christians. Her name means "enjoy the light" as people have correctly informed me. Sohyang's favourite movie star is Brad Pitt. Like "duh," eh? What woman doesn't love Brad Pitt? Ha, ha! 😎 Sohyang is a 100% self-taught singer except for a handful of sessions with Seth Riggs, which she didn't talk about in the interview I learned this from, so I think she had her Seth Riggs lessons after 2009 when this interview was recorded. She said she spent time with one of the producers of Boyz II Men while on vacation in California and learned either vocal technique or audio recording technique or both because he had a home recording studio. When she watches movies she doesn't take her hubby along because she wants to concentrate on the film without anyone interrupting or talking to her. Sorry hubby, but you can be so distracting and annoying at the movies! 😝 Sohyang likes action movies! She carries her Bible with her most places. It is an English New International Version and she tries to read five chapters a day, because it helps her stay fresh on her English. Oh yes, Sohyang wanted to be involved in musicals on stage but was offered the role of Carmen, which she turned down because Carmen was a prostitute. It sounded like she was offered prostitute roles repeatedly, so she more or less gave up on anything operatic. Though, of course, she did appear in "The Sound of Music." She is just one of those naturally wholesome women, and I think that is one of the reasons we like her. 😇❤ Sohyang is also analytic to the nth degree! She will listen to a song she likes over and over until she is satisfied she knows it inside out. The bass line, the drums, the vocals. She keeps going until she has almost worn out the recording. Well, she didn't say that last part but it is pretty obvious that she knows her music and when she decides to cover a song, she is going to cover it like it has never been covered before! And don't we all know it!?!! 🎸👍💘🎸

Despite her illness or because of it, she sang her heart out that night as if she's possessed by some divine force. This is truly an epic performance to remember. Also that backup singers were superb as well perfectly on cue.

Most of her music videos are part of the singing competition called Immortal Songs 2 which airs weekly in South Korea, the musical instrumentation on that show is always phenomenal, and the production is out of this world. Each singer gets to arrange the song given to them in a week's time to deliver. It is one of my favorite shows as it seriously cast many amazing singers on that show Kim So Hyang being one I personally love her best friend Cho Yong Jin aka ALi as well as their other close friend Park Ki Young. They do have many wonderful singers and musicians. I've never stopped listening to many of those singers and over the past 10 years have added a ton of them on my channel

Sohyang and Josh sang The Prayer together, there is a fan cam of it. This time here with "You Raise me Up" she is doing a 'cover' of West Life's version and Shane Shane Filan from West Life is in the audience. I use cover loosely as its really a new song once Sohyang has taken a hold of it.

Kim, So Hyang is the Very Best Female Vocalist in the World Today, and is a National Treasure of South Korea !! When she did this...iy was against Doctors orders, she got out of the Hospital the day before with Pneumonia and was Told Bed rest and Voice Rest totally....so this is what Kim, So Hyang Did.......Even she Admitted that this song almost ended her sing career and she end back in the Hospital for like 10 more days...even the Doctors thought it was over BUT ...BUT the Lord Had other Plans for Kim, So Hyang and She Pulled through with His help and Her Love There are notes she hits that only Angels Know What They are

First off, she had full blown pneumonia here. She saw a DR at the hospital that day, and he told her not to speak. She sang anyway. Weak lungs and a bad throat. You spoke about the backing music. She is the boss there too. She instructs them during practices on how she wants them to come in or go out. It’s all SoHyang. Oh, and her name is not HI Yung. You say it with Yung, but with the H sound connected with the Y. Like So HYung. hyung, not hi Yung. Hope this helps. Just like putting the air for the H in front of the Y so it’s like the H and Y and one letter.

The orchestra always matches sohyang’s singing because she is the one that does the musical arrangement so she knows better than anyone what she wants from the musicians that compliments herself to make the best performance possible. I, as a Sohyang fan of many years, think that although it’s a brilliant performance by anybody’s standards, in my opinion this is one of her weakest vocally & I once again say in my opinion. It is still brilliant but I am rating it only on Sohyang standards, which I’m sure you are now becoming aware of yourself, are off the charts high. It is really hard to notice anything other than perfection unless you have seen hundreds of video’s of her performing but I just think it’s a little rough around the edges on some parts & some notes she seemed to be teaching for where normally she hits them right on. As many have probably said, she wasn’t 100% in this performance, she had been told by the doctor not to perform due to her most recent bout of pneumonia, something that has bothered her a lot, along with many ongoing health issues that she has been left with due to a weakened immune system as a result of her battle with cancer on her early 20’s, which she obviously won. Anyone familiar with Sohyang will probably have thoughts similar to myself in that she looks extremely tired & like she’s lost weight in & around her face & I feel that a little of that Sohyang magic was missing. Like I said, this is only my opinion & it is not in any way a criticism of her performance, it was still a brilliant performance but I am just comparing it to the incredibly high standards Sohyang has set for herself. The things I have pointed out are only small differences, like I said, barely noticeable unless you’ve spent hours after hours listening to this wonderful lady, a true gift from god. I am so excited for you both as you are at the beginning of your Sohyang journey & I just know the amazing experiences that lie ahead of you if you continue to follow this path. You haven’t even scratched the surface yet of what she is capable of & you have yet to discover that this lady can literally sing any genre, rock,pop, blues/jazz, obviously the big power ballads & the iconic standards that everyone knows, & she can rap (yes! I did say RAP!!) but her heart is with gospel music & there are often elements of gospel in her arrangements of songs that in their original form aren’t usually associated with the genre. Other people have mentioned before how much they enjoy watching other reactors discovering Sohyang for the first time & I too feel the same because you can never re experience seeing something for the 1st time so watching someone else experience something that you have experienced is as near as you will ever get to that moment. So more Sohyang reactions please & it doesn’t really matter which performance you choose to react to because you will never have a bad performance recommended, THEY DONT EXIST!!😁

What makes this MASTER CLASS performance from the Phenomenal So Hyang, even more impressive, she IS NOT well here. Prior to this event, So Hyang was released from the hospital, still recovering from one of her numerous bouts with pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2020). Her physicians advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, she believed her singing career was over and decided to sing one last time. After this performance, she was readmitted to the hospital. She disappeared from public singing for nearly two years. When she returned in 2020, she proved her technique is FLAWLESS and EFFORTLESS. In 2023, she is sounding better than ever before. So Hyang's vocal range is still RIDICULOUS, and her breath control remains INSANE. So Hyang is singing to God.
