So how did South Africa win the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final? | RWC2023 Analysis

Спорт

They did it again. South Africa last Saturday announced themselves as one of history's great sides as Siya Kolisi's immortals became just the second side ever to retain the men’s Rugby World Cup. So, how did they do it, what got them over the line, just how close was their 1-point win, what can the All Blacks take from this, how critical was the red card, and where, in the history of the game, does this side deserve to rank?

I have been playing rugby in the Dubai for 5 years now since I watched South Africa win the World Cup in 2019. After never even being to sports for 20 years of my life , I saw what they did in Japan and said I want to know more about this culture and be apart of it. Living as a South African raised in a foreign country, I never understood the allure of the sport for a nation, which even when living abroad you can tell has bigger fish to fry. Rugby has remained the strongest glue for a lot of the community. Yes even in Dubai, South African’s stop whatever they may be doing and unite in to celebrate the hope that rugby brings to our country. Personally, I have gotten way fitter, made life long friends and after a couple of rugby induced injuries, I have earned so much more respect for the warriors that wear the green and gold. This video fully captures the importance of the Springboks team and makes me proud to be striving for success in my own path. All because of Siyamthanda. (Excuse the glazing but I am definitely naming my future child after this man.)

Missed this the first time so glad to see it now! What a beautiful video and analysis of the game. I think you’re spot on about how important Siya’s leadership is to the Springboks success, the trust and belief seems to give them that extra 1 point. As a NZ fan, I feel like that’s what we’ve missed since the Lions tour, and we’re only just starting to get back at the RWC. Ultimately, I think the things that set the greatest ever teams from the simply exceptional is that leadership based on respect and belief, rather than fear, resentment, or a feeling of destiny. That’s what sets Siya apart from Sam Cane, Owen Farrell, or Sextriangle - “rugby values” if you will.

More than that I love your passion for the game of rugby, and your compassion for everyone - winners, losers, match officials, anyone who has a tough moment in the game played at its highest level. The Springboks attract a lot of criticism - balance of probability they may deserve some of it - but they are probably are the team with the biggest heart. In November 2023 I had the opportunity to attend a business breakfast with the main speaker being Rassie Erasmus and he shared some behind the scenes moments and dialogue. Certainly a highlight for me. Keep up the great content - through your passion you ignite the same in others. Glad you were able to get this video out in the end. Wow! I heard the crack in your voice as you paid tribute to Siya. Incredible! I have always enjoyed your analysis. But this one mirrored the Bok campaign in that it wasn't just about the rugby. Love it! Looking forward to many more.

Such a great tribute to that campaign by the Boks. Being able to find victory when defeat is almost a certainty in one World Cup playoff is an incredible achievement, but 3 times? Definitely something incredibly special. Thank you Squidge 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It’s crazy how no one ever talks about how obviously forward the pass for the try was. The ball bounces significantly forward of where Telea released it

I know right!! Like, not “leaving the hands backwards” … just straight up knocked on. That would have hurt forever if the boks lost.

How many times do people need to explain! Ball leaves players hands backwards…Ball bounces forward! Even Squidge takes note in beginning of video that there are hundreds of ways an OVAL ball can bounce when it hits the ground! Facts are…ball left players hands backwards @26:16. All is permitted to bounce however it wants to smh
